Nordic twist at Budapest Book Festival

A previous edition of the International Book Festival (IBF) of Budapest. – AFP picBUDAPEST, April 19 – Budapest’s 19th International Book Festival, one of the biggest in central Europe, opened today featuring popular Nordic writers as this year’s guests of honour.

More than 20 northern European writers will attend the four-day event in the Hungarian capital, including award-winning Swedish crime novelist Hakan Nesser, Norway’s Jostein Gaarder, Danish author Janne Teller and Leena Lehtolainen from Finland.

Around 100 other authors will also be present including Italian writer Claudio Magris as another special guest, while countries including China, Brazil and Germany – after several years’ absence – will be showcased.

The event is also an opportunity for business, with trade meetings, conferences and lectures scheduled. For the 12th time, the European First Novel Festival will also highlight young authors from around the region. – AFP
