Bursa closes lower, FBM KLCI ends at intra-day low of 1,570.94

KUALA LUMPUR, June 14 – Share prices on Bursa Malaysia closed lower today as investors continued to reduce their holdings as concerns over the weakening external economic environment continued to rise, dealers said.

At 5pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) declined 5.29 points to 1,570.94, which was also the intra-day low level for today, compared with yesterday’s close of 1,576.23.

Regionally, other bourses were experiencing the downtrend too with Japan’s Nikkei 225 slipping 18.95 points to 8,568.89, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng dropping 218.12 points to 18,808.40 and Singapore’s Straits Times Index declining 13.24 points to 2,773.64.

On the local front, the Finance Index decreased 22.529 points to 14,082.15, the Plantation Index was 15.359 points lower at 8,369.28 and the Industrial Index dropped 20.16 points to 2,761.07.

The FBM Emas Index decreased 34.27 points to 10,719.99, the FBM Mid 70 Index was down by 32.99 points to 11,695.09, the FBMT100 was 34.41 points lower at 10,550.95 and the FBM ACE Index slid 34.52 points to 4,167.64.

Losers led gainers 381 to 267 while 325 counters were unchanged, 579 untraded and 16 others suspended.

Turnover eased to 670.945 million shares valued at RM1.127 billion from yesterday’s close of 677.021 million units worth RM1.216 billion. – Bernama
