Bursa Malaysia Q3 profit down 10pc

October 19, 2010

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 19 — Bursa Malaysia reported a 10 percent drop in third-quarter profit, hurt by higher expenses.

The company said earnings for the quarter ended September 30 fell to RM27.7 million from RM30.75 million in the year-ago quarter.

Revenue increased by half a percent to RM86.77 million, helped by a growth in equities trading.

The company said total expenses rose 9 per cent in the first nine months of the year because of higher staff costs and operating expenses.

Shares of the company fell half a percent to RM8.31 today. They have gained 4 per cent this year, compared with a 17 per cent rise for the broader market. — Reuters
