Bursa stays depressed going into afternoon

KUALA LUMPUR, May 3 — Share prices on Bursa Malaysia finished the morning session in the red today due to selling pressure and amid a bearish market sentiment, dealers said.

The FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) slipped 15.59 points to 1,697.87 points.

The benchmark index, which opened at 1,711.54, moved between 1,694.79 and 1,712.03, during the morning trading session.

On the scoreboard, the Finance Index fell 93.22 points to 15,847.02, the Plantation Index slipped 87.18 points to 7,989.40 and the Industrial Index lost 27.91 points to 2,830.70.

The FBM Emas Index shed 97.27 points to 11,567.36, the FBM Mid 70 Index fell 66.87 points to 12,744.42, the FBM Ace Index declined 29.36 points to 3,901.38 and the FBMT100 lost 95.36 points to 11,419.17.

Losers led gainers 476 to 144, with 253 counters unchanged, 738 untraded and 32 others suspended.

Among actives, Malaysian Airline System lost half-a-sen to 36 sen and Axiata Group fell eight sen to RM6.66, while UEM Land added four sen to RM2.60.

For the heavyweights, Maybank and Sime Darby lost three sen each to RM9.59 and RM9.35 respectively, while CIMB Group shed eight sen to RM7.63. — Bernama
