KUALA LUMPUR, April 25 — Bursa Malaysia rebounded to end the morning session slightly higher today, supported by buying activities in heavyweight counters, dealers said.
At lunch break, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) rose 0.63 of a point to 1,707.98, with 345.61 million shares worth RM791.08 million traded.
The benchmark index hovered between 1,700.25 points and 1,709.64 points throughout the morning session.
A dealer said further recovery by the index would need stronger buying momentum to sustain an upside and challenge the intra-day record high of 1,716.
On the scoreboard, the Finance Index dipped 113.52 points to 15,888.41 and the Industrial Index eased 3.54 points to 2,837.97, but the Plantation Index strengthened 13.87 points to 8,167.02.
The FBM Emas Index gained 4.44 points to 11,655.25 and the FBMT100 Index improved 6.64 points to 11,493.29.
The FBM Mid 70 Index increased 17.359 points to 12,853.09 and the FBM Ace Index slipped 4.77 points to 3,966.65.
Losers led gainers 273 to 218 with 272 counters unchanged, while 848 counters were untraded and 30 others suspended.
Among actives, MNC Wireless and Iris inched up half-a-sen each to 25 sen and 16.5 sen respectively, and Genting gained eight sen to RM10.24.
Nextnation Communication and Astral Supreme slipped half-a-sen each to 8.5 sen and 21.5 sen respectively.
For the heavyweights, Maybank and Axiata added five sen each to RM9.46 and RM6.79 respectively, while CIMB and Sime Darby gained two sen each to RM7.75 and RM9.40.
