Dow, S&P flat as energy, materials gain

NEW YORK, March 23 — Stocks pared losses today, with the Dow industrials and S&P 500 trading flat as energy and basic materials shares, the sectors that suffered the worst hit yesterday, rebounded.

The Dow Jones industrial average edged up 3.14 points, or 0.02 per cent, to 13,049.28. The S&P 500 Index dipped 0.13 point, or 0.01 per cent, to 1,392.65. The Nasdaq Composite fell 7.95 points, or 0.26 per cent, to 3,055.37.

At the day’s low, the S&P 500 fell more than 0.4 per cent. — Reuters
