DRB-HICOM boss named Proton chairman
KUALA LUMPUR, March 19 — Datuk Seri Mohd Khamil Jamil was today named the new chairman and executive director of Proton Holdings Bhd, replacing Tan Sri Mohd Nadzmi Mohd Salleh who quit the posts on Friday.
According to a Bernama Online report, the appointment comes into effect immediately.
Khamil is the group managing director of DRB-HICOM Bhd, Proton’s new owners. Aside from this latest appointment, he is also a director with Pos Malaysia Bhd, Bank Mualamat Malaysia Bhd, Edaran Otomobil Nasional Bhd and Horsedale Development Bhd.
On January 16, DRB-HICOM entered into a sales and purchase agreement with Khazanah Nasional to acquire 42.74 per cent of the issued and paid up share capital of Proton for RM1.291 billion.
The takeover was approved by the board of DRB-HICOM on Thursday.
On Wednesday, Khamil signalled that he would bring on a new management team to run Proton.
“There will be improvements to the management. There can be new faces, I will not discount the fact, and there can be old faces,” he had said.
