KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 22 – Media Prima Bhd (MPB)’s pre-tax profit for the third quarter ended Sept 30, 2012 rose to RM79.38 million from RM72.72 million in the same quarter last year.
Its revenue also increased to RM437.21 million from RM417.47 million previously.
In a filing to Bursa Malaysia, MPB said the group registered a slight contraction in revenue compared to the preceding quarter.
This was due to the EURO 2012 football tournament which attracted more advertisers in the second quarter, as compared to the Olympics in the third quarter, a result of viewer fragmentation.
Media Prima Chairman Datuk Johan Jaaffar said the results reflect a steady combined growth recorded by all media platforms within the group despite the challenges faced following the gradual slowdown in adex spending trend.
“The integration exercise within the group has not only worked well to our advantage but has also been beneficial to our clients as cross-platform promotions provided maximum exposure in reaching broader target audiences,” he said in a statement today.
On prospects, the group said it is committed to maintaining its industry leadership position and earnings growth through continued investment in quality and relevant content.
The group expects the digital media to continue to grow, complementing the traditional media, namely television, print and radio.
“The board expects the business environment in the media industry to remain highly challenging for the remaining part of the year.
“The group will do its best to deliver its 2012 target leveraging through its various media reach and to continue to attract the non-traditional advertisers,” it said. – Bernama
