Ringgit ends higher against US dollar
KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 22 — The ringgit closed higher against the US dollar today in line with the rally seen in most Asian currencies, dealers said.
At 5pm the ringgit was quoted at 3.1005/1025 to the US dollar compared with 3.1085/1115 yesterday.
A dealer said the local unit was firmer in thin trading today, supported by the positive sentiment on the local bourse and demand from exporters.
However, the uptrend in regional currencies would likely be capped due to concerns on how long the US Federal Reserve would keep its quantitative easing programme in place, which has boosted the US dollar.
The ringgit traded mostly higher against a basket of major currencies at close.
The local unit was marginally higher against the Singapore dollar at 2.5040/5065 from 2.5046/5087 yesterday, and firmed up against the yen to 3.3192/3228 from 3.3289/3335.
It appreciated against the euro at 4.0982/0012 from 4.1057/1100 previously.
However, the ringgit fell against the British pound to 4.7338/7381, from 4.7246/7304 yesterday. — Bernama
