Ringgit opens lower against US dollar on cautious trading

June 20, 2012

KUALA LUMPUR, June 20 — The ringgit opened lower against the US dollar on cautious trading Wednesday in line with most regional currencies, dealers said.

At 9.40 am, the ringgit was quoted at 3.1570/1610 against the US dollar vis-a-vis 3.1560/1590 yesterday.

A dealer said sentiments were buoyed by positive news coming out of Greece and as a run-up in Wall Street stocks encouraged investors to take on riskier positions.

Against other major currencies, the ringgit strengthened against the Singapore dollar to 2.4897/4935 from 2.4886/4937 yesterday and appreciated against the yen to 4.0008/0084 from 3.9962/9025 Tuesday.

The domestic currency, however, weakened against the British pound to 4.9628/9704 from 4.9306/9970 yesterday and slipped against the euro to 3.9996/4.0059 from 3.9744/9797 Tuesday. — Bernama
