KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 20 – The ringgit opened slightly higher against the US dollar in early trading today on the back of buying interest for the local currency, dealers said.

At 9.09am, the ringgit was quoted at 3.0940/0960 against the greenback from yesterday’s 3.0980/0010 close.

Regional currencies continue to track the yen’s movements as doubts surfaced in global markets on whether the Bank of Japan will execute aggressive plans to jump-start its economy, dealers said.

On the local front, the ringgit was traded mostly lower against other major currencies.

It rose against the Singapore dollar to 2.5000/5026 from yesterday’s 2.5036/5055, advanced against the British pound to 4.7759/7802 from 4.8047/8090, and appreciated against the yen to 3.3017/3045 from 3.3169/3201 yesterday.

The ringgit, however, weakened against the euro to 4.1543/1579 from yesterday’s 4.1405/1434 close. – Reuters
