Share prices lower at mid-afternoon

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 30 – Share prices on Bursa Malaysia were lower at mid-afternoon today due to selling activities mostly seen in heavyweights, dealers said.

As at 3.10pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) fell 11.3 points to 1,626.04 after opening 1.85 points higher at 1,639.19.

The Finance Index declined 52.57 points to 14,818.3, the Industrial Index slipped 21.9 points to 2,751.18 and the Plantation Index was down 71.26 points to 7,976.87.

The FBM Emas Index dipped 81.55 points to 11,058.71, FBMT100 was 78.49 points lower at 10,913.36, the FBM Mid 70 Index slid 98.96 points to 12,055.73 and the FBM Ace Index lost 13.16 points to 4,098.06.   

Losers overwhelmed gainers by 541 to 132 with 291 counters unchanged, 697 untraded and 41 others suspended.

Volume stood at 781.793 million shares worth RM1.186 billion.

Among actives, newly-listed China Automobile rose 16 sen to 84 sen, while Compugates and Patimas lost half-a-sen each to 8.5 sen and 11 sen, respectively.

As for heavyweights, Maybank slipped three sen to RM8.88 while Sime Darby and Axiata fell seven sen each to RM9.30 and RM6.28, respectively.

CIMB lost four sen to RM7.20 and Petronas Chemicals shed one sen to RM6.02. – Bernama
