Share prices remain in positive territory at mid-afternoon

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 23 – Share prices on Bursa Malaysia remained in positive territory at mid-afternoon as buying interest emerged in the local bourse, dealers said.

As at 3.02 pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) added 6.18 points to 1,634.84 despite opening 1.9 points weaker at 1,626.76.

The Finance Index jumped 74.31 points to 14,877.24, the Industrial Index rose 10.4 points to 2,732.7 and the Plantation Index put on 6.71 points to 8,003.6.

The FBM Emas Index increased 35.68 points to 11,111.34, the FBMT100 gained 36.64 points to 10,962.39, the FBM Mid 70 Index added 18.2 points to 12,064.02 but the FBM Ace Index fell 0.06 of a point to 4,137.32.

Gainers led losers 335 to 256 with 287 counters unchanged, 781 untraded and 28 others were suspended.

Volume stood at 586.94 million shares worth RM792.55 million.

Among actives, Patimas Computers eased one sen to 12 sen, Industronics rose 4.5 sen to 60 sen, The Media Shoppe added 1.5 sen to 10.5 sen and Tiger Synergy gained one sen to 34 sen.

As for heavyweights, Maybank and CIMB advanced three sen each to RM8.90 and RM7.25, respectively, Sime Darby was five sen better at RM9.27 and Axiata Group went up four sen to RM6.40. – Bernama
