The US automaker confirmed February 13 that the Focus 1.0-liter EcoBoost is now available to order in Europe, where it will set a new record for the automaker in terms of efficiency and emissions.
The turbocharged 100PS model offers fuel efficiency of 4.8l/100km (58.9mpg) and CO2 emissions of 109g/km, a rating all the more impressive given that Ford claims the engine offers the performance of a conventional non-turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine.
The engine’s installation in the popular Ford Focus is its first use in a production model, ahead of its appearance in the C-MAX and B-MAX models from Ford later this year.
The B-MAX, set to be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show (March 8-18) as a competitor to the likes of the Opel Meriva and Honda Jazz, was shown in detail for the first time earlier this month and is expected to land later this year.
Perhaps the most striking features are the doors, which integrate the traditional centre pillars to allow easy access to the interior — the front doors open as normal, and the back doors slide backwards, leaving nothing remaining in the side of the vehicle to hinder access.
Ford described the 1.5-meter wide open space left by the B-MAX doors as “a designer’s dream”. — AFPrelaxnews.com
