Ford unveils muscle-car tribute to Caroll Shelby
2013 Shelby GT500 Cobra.DETROIT, Aug 21 — Ford recently unveiled its 850-HP Mustang-based 2013 Shelby GT500 Cobra at the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion, built by a group dubbed “Friends of Carroll” in memory of former race car driver and automotive designer Carroll Shelby, who died in May.
“Using the 662-horsepower 2013 Shelby GT500 as a foundation, ‘Friends of Carroll’ created the one-of-a-kind 2013 Shelby GT500 Cobra wide-body Mustang that now generates more than 850 horsepower with the help of a Ford Racing 4.0-litre Whipple supercharger,” reports speedtv.com.
The tribute was complete when the “Friends of Carroll” added the iconic white stripes on a blue paint job, a colour scheme used for many of Shelby’s race cars in the 1960s.
