SEOUL, Feb 4 — Kia will present a new spinoff of its best-selling Soul at next week’s Chicago Auto Show, it confirmed on February 2.

The Track’ster will be presented to show attendees as a “sporting representation” of the Soul crossover and is the second concept based on the Soul Kia has presented.

The Soul’ster, a sturdy concept which borrowed from pickup trucks that was unveiled in 2009, is said to be “under final assessment for production” by the Korean brand.

It remains to be seen whether the Track’ster will head that way too, but the first renderings of the Track’ster show an attempt to add some spice to the Soul, with a huge front end and lowered height.

The entire model appears to have been flattened in the picture, and the rear doors have been removed — possibly to make way for the massive wheels shown on the concept.

With the first press days of the Chicago show beginning on February 8 (open to the public February 10-19), new ideas have been flowing thick and fast from automakers — Mopar, Chrysler’s accessories division, is understood to be preparing four modified Chrysler models for power-hungry visitors.

A new challenger for the Kia Soul is also likely to debut at the event from Volkswagen, in the form of a diesel-powered Beetle.

The 2013 Beetle TDI is thought to feature a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine and may be offered as a convertible model, according to reports. — AFP-Relaxnews
