VW Golf reigns on at top of Europe sales chart
WOLFSBURG, July 23 — With 240,020 shipments through the first half of 2012, Volkswagen’s Golf is still the best-selling car in Europe, according to figures recently released by automotive analyst Jato dynamics.
The Golf is ahead of the Ford Fiesta (171,605 vehicles sold), the Volkswagen Polo (163,818) and the Opel Corsa (149,553).
All of these models have seen their sales drop dramatically compared to the first half of 2011, the Golf’s sales declining by 6.2 per cent.
Among the ten bestselling carmakers in Europe, Audi and Mercedes are the only ones to show an increase in sales since last year, by 4.9 per cent and 4.5 per cent.
The figures, released by Jato on July 19, encompass sales in 30 European countries. — AFP/Relaxnews
