KUALA LUMPUR, April 16 — Tesco Stores (M) Sdn Bhd will open at least five more stores this year, said Tesco Malaysia chief executive officer Chris Bush.
“Tesco is a significant investor in Malaysia, with more than RM3 billion invested since our inception in 2001,” said Bush in a statement today.
Meanwhile, the company also announced the opening of its newest Tesco Store in Kulai, Johor today. It will be Tesco’s 30th store in Malaysia and the fourth in Johor.
The Tesco Store in Kulai will create 320 new jobs for locals at both the management and non-management levels.
Bush added that when the company opened its recruitment centre more than three months ago, there had been a substantial amount of interest for the 320 positions available.
The company is also looking to create another 2,000 jobs for locals this year to support the rapid expansion programmes planned.
Tesco currently has a workforce of almost 12,000 employees, with more than 5,000 new jobs created last year alone. — Bernama
