KEMAMAN, Sept 27 – The Terengganu state government is taking measures to buy the products manufactured by small and medium industries (SMIs) in a bid to increase their contribution to the state’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
State Rural, Entrepreneur and Cooperative Development Committee Chairman Datuk Mohamed Awang Tera said the state government would buy all the products manufactured by over 2,000 SMI entrepreneurs to be marketed at the T’shoppe chains within the state and elsewhere.
“For that, we will set up a Collection and Marketing Centre for Entrepreneurs’ Products in every district in the state where every product will be bought and collected for value addition such as packaging and rebranding.
“Products like batik, ‘kerepek’ (chips), and handicrafts are among goods that will be marketed at our T’shoppe franchises and selected supermarkets,” he told Bernama when met at his open house here, today.
He said three T’shoppe branches had been opened so far, two in Kuala Terengganu and another in Kuala Berang.
Mohamed said more would be opened soon including one each in Kemaman, Paka and Melaka and five in the Klang Valley and Johor respectively.
He said the move would encourage SMI entrepreneurs to manufacture more products which subsequently would help them to improve their family economic status and boost the state’s GDP. – Bernama
