KL shares close higher, CIMB group among top gainers

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 16 - Share prices on Bursa Malaysia ended higher today with continuous buying in banking stocks and sentiment lifted by gains in regional markets as well as on Wall Street, said a dealer.

At 5 pm the FTSE Bursa Malaysia Kuala Lumpur Composite Index closed 7.35 points higher at 1,278.31. It had opened 2.02 points higher at 1,272.98.

Among others, CIMB Group’s share price soared to its year high as it announced plans to undertake an initial public offering of up to 35 million of its shares for a dual listing on the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET).

CIMB Group as the second top gainer, rose 36 sen to RM13.28.

Based on CIMB Group’s market capitalisation of US$13.7 billion (RM46.58 billion) as at Friday’s closing, the company will be among the three largest companies on SET and the largest financial group.

CIMB Group is already present in Thailand via its 93.15 per cent owned subsidiary, CIMB Thai Bank Plc, also listed on the SET.

The FBM Emas Index rose 53.76 points to 8,542.59, the FBM Top 10 jumped 54.86 points to 8,335.87 and the FBM 70 gained 81.77 points to 8,259.87.

The FBM ACE slipped 30.49 points to 4,493.38.

The Industrial Index surged 14.78 points to 2,712.26 and the Plantation Index climbed 23.46 points to 6,202.78 while the Finance Index rose 156.22 points to 11,083.52.

Gainers led losers by 412 to 282 while 232 counters were unchanged and  348 others untraded.

Overall volume was higher at 1.074 billion shares worth RM1.166 billion  compared with Friday’s 789.569 million shares worth RM994.637 million.

Leading the actives, Affin Holdings-Warrants jumped 29.5 sen to 44.5 sen, Inch Kenneth Kajang perked 1.5 sen to 52 sen, Sern Kou Resources inched down one sen to 37 sen and Compugates stayed flat at seven sen.

IJM Plantation-Warrants was the top gainer, up 45.5 sen to 77 sen.

Of the heavyweights, Sime Darby earned one sen to RM9.07, Maybank added two sen to RM6.87, Public Bank jumped two sen to RM10.98 and Tenaga Nasional improved two sen to RM8.45.

Turnover on the Main Market increased to 993.926 million shares worth RM1.145 billion as against the 709.956 million shares worth RM972.125 million  posted on Friday.

The ACE Market volume dropped to 59.04 million shares worth RM13.89 million versus 60.241 million shares worth RM16.538 million previously.

The volume for Warrants climbed to 16.74 million shares worth RM3.238 million against the 13.817 million shares worth RM3.011 million previously.

Consumer products accounted for 81.240 million shares traded on the Main Market, industrial products 137.527 million, construction 45.03 million, trade and services 24.478 million, technology 47.438 million, infrastructure 12.828 million, finance 306.089 million, hotels 544,000, properties 56.121 million, plantations 60.051 million, mining 16,000, REITs 2.198 million, and closed/fund 54,200. — Bernama
