KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 11 - Raja Petra Kamarudin is behind bars but his campaign to link Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak with the murder of Mongolian model Altantuya Shariibuu intensified today – with a startling allegation.
His website, Malaysia Today, carried a report detailing what it alleged was an exchange of text messages between Najib and Shafee Abdullah, the prominent lawyer who represented Abdul Razak Baginda before he was charged with abetting two police officers in the murder of the model.
These SMSes – if true – raise some questions over the handling of the case and suggest that Najib took a strong interest in the investigation from the beginning.
The SMS exchange, which went on from Nov 8 to Dec 2, 2006, is likely to become great fodder for the Opposition when Parliament sits again on Monday. More so now that Najib is a cusp away from becoming the president of Umno and the prime minister of Malaysia.
In one SMS, Najib allegedly tells the lawyer that Razak Baginda – his advisor – “will face a tentative charge but all is not lost.”'
Malaysia Today said that this message raises some questions about Najib's role in the case. “Why did he mention ‘tentative’ charge and that ‘all is not lost’ for RB (Razak Baginda)? How would Najib know this before Razak was charged? These are important questions which will have ramifications, not just on this case but far beyond,” a posting on the website said.
Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and the Opposition have tried to link Najib and his wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, with the murder since it happened in October 2006.
Najib has furiously denied any involvement with the case, and has even sworn in a mosque that he did not know the woman. His wife has also sought recourse in the courts to clear her name.
Their nemesis has been Raja Petra. He published many reports and commentaries alleging a cover-up in the investigation of the murder. He was detained under the Internal Security Act for allegedly publishing articles which were blasphemous.

honestly, I find it hard to believe.
Why would Najib stick his neck out like this
Why wpuld he waste his time, keying out an SMS - though a media that is totally insecure. ///
yc - welcome to Malaysia where the rich and famous can literally get away with murder.
Najib certainly didn't think he was sticking his neck out since he never thought he would be caught out, and if caught out, that he would be punished at all.
What about Mohamad Taib Mohamad who was caught trying to smuggle millions of Ringgits through Australian custom?
What about blowing someone up with C4?
What about paying yourself hundreds of millions of ringgits in commission?
You think all these are secure and would not leak out?

So, just like pictures in cinema-halls, we now have the PM agreeing to hand over power, without bloodshed to his Deputy. During the interim period of 5 minths, the PM has to make a dash for his promised REFORMS like the JAC, IPCMC, Anti-corruption index, ISA, Inter-Faith dialogues , to name a few. His hands in the next few months would be full. He would like to show the people of Malaysia that he meant business that he would fulfil his pledges of 2004 General Election which he failed to do. Probably in his euphoria after the landslide victory, he forgot about the people and perhaps even himself! Will he be allowed to do REFORMS? If he is NOT allowed to go ahead with them, what will he do? SACK those Ministers who oppose his plans? Will he buckle under and give in ? Since he ahs nothing to lose and everything to gain ( after he is not standing for UMNO Presidency, so he does not CARE whether people like it or not), he would probably steam ahead! " ! I am the pilot of my DESTINY! I am STILL the CAPTAIN of the ship! I am STILL the Prime Minister of Malaysia! You don't like what I do, get lost! After all, I do NOT need your support for UMNO nomination and election! But, you DO need my support. If I say " Go and jump into the sea. you just do it! " So, lest people think he is a LAME DUCK and cannot quack, they are highly mistaken. NOte how he exchange the Defence and Finance Ministries overnight! So, he can overnight say " NEXT CHANGE" ; and the next show is on ! Even the DPM has to jump, if he says " jump! "
Do not treat the position of the PM very lightly. He who pays the piper calls the tune!
In the meantime, the DPM has to watch his step. The world economy is in very bad shape. Will he, as Finance Minister, be able to handle the recessioanry trends happening in the world? US economy is in very bad shape. Sub-prime home loans started the down slide. Now Investment banks are in trouble, soem haev already closed shop and others need capital injection. Banks in UK and Europe and Asia are very bad. Russia recently closed down the Stock Exchange. Even far north in ICELAND the banks are getting the chill! Asia is not spared either! Times are hard; and will get worse before they get better. Even the great investor BUFFETT predicted that it would time some time before things improve.US recently approved a massive US$700 BILLION bail-out for investment banks. Inspite of the infusion of funds, the Stock Exchange Indices throughout the world fell like ten pins!
What is the NEXT CHANGE? Malaysia will face the onslaught as well as other countries.

Until I know how they get their hands on something so private, I will held on to my skepticism about the authenticy of the SMS exchange. It could easily be forged.
Let's see what Najib has to say bout the publication of the exchange.

Najib is about lying and cheating. He lied and cheat to his family, his bosses, etc.. The man will lie and cheat to just about anyone. Its a personal flaw that cannot be erased and fixed and especially in a religiolized country, that is not going to fly for long...

After facing so many allegations against him, police has still taken no action on this matter, is it something really at the back yard?
I think Razak Baginda has to say something about it to show he is a true man. Since Najib is his good friend, he got the duty to help him (Najib) out of this mess.
