SHAH ALAM, Oct 28 - Pas, a member of the Pakatan Rakyat coalition government in Selangor, is unhappy with the appointment of Low Siew Moi as acting head of the Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS).
Selangor Pas commissioner Datuk Dr Hasan Mohamad Ali, who is also a state executive councillor, said today that the party would help the state government find a more suitable candidate.
Mentri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim announced yesterday that Low, who is PKNS corporate and accounts deputy general manager, would be appointed acting general manager for a year following the retirement of Datuk Harun Salim at the end of October.
The appointment also did not go down well with the corporation’s staff. At the Selangor State Assembly, their representatives, led by PKNS Senior Officers Association president Idris Ishak, submitted a memorandum of protest to Khalid during recess.
Hasan told reporters later that he had discussed the matter with Khalid who had indicated his willingness to shorten Low’s tenure if Pas was able to come up with suitable candidates.
Hasan said he had asked Khalid why two most senior officers — Deputy General Manager (Administration) Md Nasir Md Arshad and Deputy General Manager (Technical) Abdul Ghani Hassan — were not appointed to succeed Harun.
He said Khalid had told him that Low was appointed because of her professionalism and administrative ability but Pas was of the view that the two deputy general managers had their own strengths and should have been considered for promotion.
Hasan said Khalid wanted the new general manager to bring reforms to PKNS and dignify the rights of bumputeras in trade, business and economy in urban areas, town outskirts and new development areas despite the fact that Low was not a bumiputera.
He said Pas would hold a meeting soon to look at the list of party members who could bring PKNS to greater heights. - Bernama

This is a never ending game. Just like Dr M's comment on 30% Bumi equity. It's not surprising as well.
There's only one point to make to Bumis especially Malays. That is, the rule of game in this globalised world is not about Bumi and Non-bumi anymore.
The Bumi, read Malay, must realise that they do not really compete with non-Bumi in Malaysia. Instead, the real competition comes from Vietnam, China, India, Eastern Europe, Indonesia, Middle East, all over the world! Not from non-Bumi.
If Bumi issue keeps on haunting the pursue of meritocracy thus dampening national competitiveness, Bumi, non-Bumi, Malay, everyone, in fact Malaysia as a whole will lose out. It's really a lose-lose situation. Everybody suffers. Perhaps except Umno cronies.
The world has changed, and the world is changing. Fast.
The good time that Malaysia enjoyed during 80s era is gone, forever. The landscape is different now. The main attractiveness during 80s - political stability and low-cost labour cost - is no longer applicable now because every competing nations can provide that too.
Malaysia was a few democratic nations with good infrastructure and low labour cost at that time, but as China, Vietnam, India opening up their markets and developing, we are in fact losing our attractiveness. Hell, even the Arab 'brothers' dont want to invest here.
We must from now onwards provide more to remain competitive and attractive to investors, be it local or foreign. We must do away redtape, corruption, etc and most importantly, move to higher value chain.
It is really a good time to do away the Malays' inferiority mindset, and the racist policy that hinders national progress.
What if we dont reform and change? Well... it wont be long when Malaysia will join the rank as major exporter of labourers. Perhaps by then Bumi will be happy to work as labourer in Vietnam, or Pakistan.

If there is better candidate, appoint Mr. or Ms. better.
Simple . Period.
Any other consideration is counter productive to the performance of PKNS.
Performance talks, bullsh*t walks !

Any other consideration e.g. race , religion is backward looking, not to mention shallow mindedness.
Look at USA that we condemn so readily. President Obama is in the pipeline. Down with racism ! It will ruin our beloved country.

Let every malaysian be given a opportunity to develop his/her talents/brains:
And , let every malaysian be given a opportunity to serve Malaysia to the best of his/her ability.
Forget about race and religon. There is a whole wide world out there, talented Malaysians will move out if not given a chance.
Now, what's so difficult to understand about that. You must be dumb ,if you don't.

Yes it's true, there won't be any uproar if the person appointed was a foreign consultant because here they feel 'maruah tak tergadai' but when the person is a Chinese, the kiasu syndrome suddendly appeared and the feeling of 'maruah tergadai', it's part of the characteristic of 'ketuanan'.
Perhaps the prejudice is so strong that many have the perception that the Chinese cannot be trusted to a job to help the Malays, just as what the Singapore government is looked upon, that's the reason why they never willing want to learn things which are good from Singapore, even Taiwan or China but rather go further away to Japan or Korea. It's just the Chinese phobia and distrust that been indoctrinated in their mind since young, everything about Chinese is dirty, ugly and greedy.
The same goes to our national schools, hardly to find non-Malays principals or HMs. Main reason - the majority pupils in the school are Malays, but than why bother to be called national schools, schools for all Malaysians.

PAS has the right to shout about since PKNS take care of Malay interest, but mind you PAS, you are voted in not by the Malay alone. Aren't you should think of non-Malay voters sentiment too ? The Chinese idiom is most suit for you, it is something like "blown away the bridge after you have cross the river". That is bad attitude.

Leave us out. We Ibans and other genuine BUMIs in Sabah and Sarawak are more united than those in West Malaysia. Where does the Orang Asli stands??? Have they a voice in the government. Afterall it is their LAND you guys are arguing about.
Every point has an interim/probationary period for test of its virtue. Let it have its place. Jumping the gun is NOT the answer.
We can go on and on and on and on over the matters of a Malaysian mind. I would say, grow-up.

In their joint memorandum dated Oct 25 to Khalid, the staff associations said: “PKNS was established for Malays and to fulfill the Malay agenda. Because of this, the organisation needs to be led by a Malay.”
First of all, I'm a PAS member. I'm quite sceptical if PKNS was actually established for Malays. It was established for the development of S'gor. And S'gor consists of Malay, Chinese, Indian and other races. Secondly, can a non-Malay Muslim then be appointed as the GM? I'm also quite disillusioned with PAS' (Hassan Ali) stance on this. First of all let me stress that this has nothing to do with Bumi rights. This is something to do with appointing a credible GM to head PKNS (be it a Malay or otherwise). So, a Chinese is appointed as the Acting GM. So what's the big fuss. Surely the MB had weighed all criteria before appointing her and credit to him for not practicing favourtism. PAS, please come to your senses, will you. So your action now suggests that if PAS is put in power, your priority is Malay and Islam and the minority will be marginalised. The reason why I became a PAS member was because I had always thot that PAS will uphold the principle of Islam and fair to all races, ie. Chinese, Indians, Malays (be it majority or minority). I'm beginning to have my doubts now. Datuk Dr Hassan Ali you have disappointed me and I'm sure many others too...........a typical UMNO mentality.... The only reason I'm still hanging on is because of good souls like Tuan Guru Nik Aziz. Otherwise, I would have said good-bye a long time ago... But having said this, it is my sincere hope that it was Dr Hassan Ali's personal view and does not represent PAS as a whole...

We, the Rakyat, just want to live in harmony with every1, regardless of race and every1 get to earn money. As for PKNS, to my opinion, even if the candidate is a disabled person, but is very capable, i would also let he/she do the job. End of the day, is that ppl gets the benefit! So whats the lost??? WAKE UP to PKNS's STAFF! with your kind of mentality, you will just be regarded as incompetent. Keep differentiating ourselves against race-based, what benefit will we gain? NOTHING but backwards. We learn from the best out of each other. That should be the way rather than racism.
Whenever i go out, when i see a group of ppl having lunch with a mixture of Malay, Chinese and Indian, i felt so Malaysian, coz it really reflects the true bonding of a Malaysia as a whole. Btw, my neighbour is a Malay family and living in a Chinese neighbourhood, so what? I think its great esp when it comes to festive season.
Let's grow to be a more matured citizen, and make our country Malaysia the best in the world!!!

51 years! Yet the majority of the Malays are are still ever gullible to be let but the nose even to date.
I wonder when the Majority of the Malays are going to grow up and think for themselves instead of
fooled by the handfull of UMNO ruling Elites? If Bahasa Melayu or Bahasa Malaysia is that important then why is it that most if not all the children of the UMNO Elites are being send abroad for their educations ? Where as all the rest of the orang Melayu Biasa can stay put in Malaysia, be educated
in the Malay medium schools, attend exclusive Bumi tertairy Colleges/Unis so as to remain in the vicious
cycle of handouts. I really feel sad for the most of the Malays in Malaysia as they still feel UMNO is doing
the right thing for their Race not realising that they are being moulded to be uncompetative and too reliant handouts. Like the saying goes " Give me a fish and I'll eat a meal, teach me to fish and I'll eat
forever " English should have been left as the main medium of instruction in the Malaysian Education system then today all Malaysians would have been better off in every aspect, but NO, some Politicians
have to toy with it and stuffed it up big time. If PAS and PKNS senior Staffs feels so strongly about Miss
Low's Acting GM appointment for a year, its their lost and not Miss Low's lost. Some Malays are just too
proud to accept another race offer of help, this, I still cannot quite understand why.
Opening up UiTM will only be to the advantage of the Bumis as their Standards would be greatly enhanced and their Grats better recieved by the commercial sector. To have Closed Education system
is a folly as you'll be left far far behind from the rest of the world.
I am glad I made a good decision 20 years ago to reluctantly leave Malaysia for my childrens future. Today I can feel proud as a father as both my kids have graduated and gainfully employed NOT by colour or creed but by their Qualifications and Capabilities.
I hope SuaraSelangor will learn to look at life from a different perspective and be a happier person, I honestly wish for you. We are only in this Mortal world for a short perod of time, we came naked and we go naked when we demise, all the earthly things will remain no matter what colour or creed you belong to, they are and will be left behind. So this is a political matter lah..speak up MCA, Gerakan, PPP. Apa mau tunggu lagi. Again want to discuss in closed doors ah. Discussing or hiding. Oi......

Those who are against it ,see it as it is because all this while government institutions, agencies, subsidiaries, GLCs, have always been a nest of cronies, being used and abused by those in power & those who are well connected.
The appointment of a Non Malay should bring about a paradigm shift in the employees of PKNS. She should not be seen as a racial being but as a dedicated (35 years of it) employee of PKNS.Why after 35 years of dedication she is look upon as a Non Malay ?
As a PAS member since the days of Yusuf Rawa,I can't understand the position taken by Dr Hassan Ali. Isn't PAS for ALL ?

Question to EYZ.....the private sector is a brutal world and businessman, be it a bumi or non-bumi controlled will always try to get the best person to do the job. Not complicated and no ill-intention just pure business sense.
written by elsie, October 30, 2008
I agree with thorn..The private sector in msia is fuelled solely by a limited form of meritocracy...Any form of discrimination is minimal as no company can survive in the PRIVATE sector by emphasizing on race and not capability..Unless of course backed by the govt as evident by the numerous bailouts that we see..It is called living in the REAL world...So if China is the pre-eminent power in the world today...and you still think that by learning chinese to do business with the rest of the world, it is a racist policy...
could it be that you are.......?
And if you say that bumis are severely disadvantaged in the private sector...could it be that you are also saying.....?
written by cubi76, October 30, 2008
But what you were trying to do was, justify the public discriminatory policy by highlighting some of the private companies' wrongdoing? This obviously is not convincing at all.
And clearly you have no idea the difference between public sector, private sector, public governence/policy, the definition and function of free market, market competition, market distortion, market efficiency, even the role of government.
I hope you can try to look it up yourself. Afterall, it's for your own knowledge.

I strongly urge that we change. If we as Malaysians do not change, there will be no end to it. Your remarks showed that you do not like it as well. It is time we move on. Please think of the larger interest of the country and our children. We need to make this country prosper such that we could take care of everyone, all races alike. No one like to see Malays, Chinese, Indians, Kadazans, Ibans and everyone else poor. We simply need the best to run the country.

I am a bumi myself, my objective view is: PKNS have a stated purpose for it's formation which is to help the bumis in the housing industry, so I can understand PAS & the bumi's objections to the appointment of a non-bumi.
Having said that, let's look at the big picture:
1. Ms Low did not ask for the appointment. She merely accepted the offer made to her, so I hope no one will spin it as non-bumi encroaching on bumi rights and spin it to their own vested interests.
2. If a 'foreign consultant' has been appointed to lead & clean up PKNS, I am pretty sure there wouldn't be much objections from any party.
3. NO ONE demanded PKNS to open their doors to more non-bumis.
So again, people, let's not be so childish and play into the hands of the racists, look at Ms Low as a short-term consultant being hired to do a short term assignment.
It's time we as a race grow up and stop embarassing ourselves by our pettiness!
