SHAH ALAM, Oct 30 - Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said the policy to have 30 per cent Bumiputera equity participation in public companies showed that the community had compromised a lot even though they form 70 per cent of the country's population.
"The question is, what is the appropriate percentage of Malay and Bumiputera participation in the economy?
"Should the Malays be left without any involvement in economic activities or let them remain at 20 per cent or should they be given 60 to 70 per cent instead?" he said at a news conference after visiting the Al-Madinah International University here.
He was commenting on a statement by MCA vice-president Datuk Liow Tiong Lai urging the government to do away with the 30 per cent Bumiputera equity participation in public listed companies.Meanwhile the 4B Youth Movement expressed disappointment over the statement.
Its secretary Datuk Jamaluddin Abdul Rahim told reporters in Ipoh, Perak that the policy had been agreed upon by the country's past leaders to address economic imbalances between communities.
"We hope that young leaders in the country look back and study the history behind the 30 per cent equity policy, which was made following the May 13 incident," he said. - Bernama

In business, we need to integrated credible and capable human resources, to achieve optimum, if not, maximum output.
It's not about 30% or 70%, it's about integration not deviation.
If you were to discuss, it's Minimum 30% not Maximum 30%, for one PLC.
Thank you.

Hey, I am bumi but I don't need a crutch to survive lar. Stop assuming you speak for us.
First of all, Bumi's didn't start off owning 100% equity and 'give' it away to other races, instead, we demand others to give us 30% of what they build, regardless of whether we deserve it or not.
You want to shout to the whole world you are weak and need handout, speak for yourself, me and my generation and future generations do NOT need such crutches to survive!

If the Bumiputras through their genuine effort control the majority of the country's wealth, why shoud anyone complain, since they work hard for it? Non Bumiputras are not such unreasonable lot.
Dear Minister, please do some homework and get your facts rignt. It is the way the distribution is done, not the number.
Think of a way to increase the economic pie instead of harping on this number of 30%, as every simple folk will understand, a 20% shares in RM200 is more meaningful than a 30% share in RM100.

As for the foreign investors, do you think they give any damn about the 30% thingy. Malaysia is not the only country they can invest in. They have tons of options. If Malaysia and UMNO in particular think that foreign investment is not important and can rely on petrol money to finance the country's growth by all mean stick to the NEP thingy.

UMNO wacked the grassroot bumis limpy, then give them tongkat and make them impulsive beggers. UMNOs is much like those syndicates behind street beggers, who manipulate and exploit. In days to come, UMNO is likely to dispense parang and kris and make them terrorists.
Nonetheless, UMNO is still better than MIC, who broke the Indian's legs, push them onto the street and gave them nothing.

It is doubtful that SC did not ensure that this 30% Bumiputra equity is complied before granting listing approval. Thus, the second reason is more likely. May I therefore suggest a solution to solve this problem. The 30% Bumiputra shares be designated as Bumi shares and could only be transferred between Bumiputra investors. The remaining 70% of the shares shall be free for all. This way, the Bumiputra shares can only be more than 30% and not less. If this proposal is implemented, there is no need to get heated up over this issue any more.

Because you are THE TYPICAL PRODUCT OF NEP ! Needless to say the rest. With people as confident as Faizal around, If I own a business , I'll give my 50 % to him, with or without NEP, because I know that we can form a WINNING company. And you bet I wouldn't care whether he is Bumi, Eslkimo or Red Indian. To do business is to make money, the Japanese investor think so, the Russian who send our space tourist to space definitely think so, and the mamak store proprietor will think like wise.
Kindly encourage Bumi to achieve 70% of the equity. But remember by sheer effort in line with business convention. What I mean is the above the board not the under table kind of deal that your friends always like to engage in. By then Malaysia will be a economy world power , and all Malaysian will have some quality time to spend some real money, rather then talking 30% or 70% on the internet.

The government should be engaging Malaysians in healthy competition so that we can compete in the world with the brains instead of indulging in mediocrity and protectionism. Where are we in the field of education? We do not even have world class universities, why there is no competition in the intake of the best brains to be the academic staff. What a shame!! The Higher Education Minister should be ashamed that when our education system is in shambles he is talking about Malay equity stake holding in the country and this is nothing more than deviation from his scope of work and accountability.
At the rate and pace the country is moving we can only be sad for the next generation of Malaysians simply because race is being used as a divisive factor to impede our progress towards achieving world class status. There is no substitute for meritocracy and mediocrity will descend us to doomsday.

When somebody find a wallet full of RM on the street and pass it up to Utusan or NST, by your defination they are stupid. They are selfish also, because they might use the found money to buy some toys for his children.
As per your comment , Encik Faizal , a righteous bumi who has a strong belief system, a healthy mindset and who has made it , who is independent and confident, who can compete with anyone head on, and the best thing is, unlike other flip flop angels in that inferior complex party, talk conscience. AND YOU ASK HIM TO FLY KITE BECAUSE YOU THINK HE IS FOOLISH AND SELFISH ???
WHAT KIND OF LOGOC IS THAT ? Isn't Him the EXEMPLARY MALAY who posses all the right quality that our NEP inclineed government aspire day in day out to build ? Isn't him the confident proud Malay that our bonehead leadership are talking about now ?
AND A SMART PERSON LIKE YOUR GOOD SELF CALL HIM FOOLISH AND SELFISH ???
Think about it brother !

2. To be honest, during the fight for independence, communism etc.... it is ALL races that berganding bahu to fight for Malaya. Read Sejarah - original edition. Latest edition got mutation of facts lah. That time someone got to be the Speaker for Malaya - so Bapa Malaya was the chosen one.
3. I also agree with Faisal. Each time we have mak to hold our hand when crossing the road, we will never learn to cross the road confidently ourselves. Why cant we learn to cross the road ourselves? Mak cannot always be around to help us to cross the road.
Must now wake up and look at bigger picture. Must learn to share fairly if they want to continue raking up the wealth in this country. Or else they might lose everything when the other components decide to call it QUITS. Dont imagine its impossible. 308 is an example.

1) Why don't trust statistics by fellow Malaysian? Is it because they are mostly done by Malays that they cannot be trusted? Why must go to Hong Kong? Is it because they speak cantonese or mandarin that they are more trusted. What a crap! Stop being mistrusting & greedy! No one is asking anyone to give up all their wealth. All is asked is for them to be more considerate and share.
2) The indegenious people had been so polite in never asking for more than 30% even though they make up 70% of the population. They compromised in granting other races citizenship, so that they can earn a living in this country, feed themselves and their children. Would the Chinese in China or Indians in India do the same and sacrificed their righst so that their economies be monopolied by others in their countries. I dont think so.
3) 30% ruling which was part of NEP is to enable disadvantaged to compete is a level playing field with the advanteged. Like in golf, the poorer players would be given handicaps. Otherwise the good golfers win every time. It is about correcting imbalances between groups. There was inbalance in the distribution of wealth, and its still continue now. Following that our wise leaders from all the communities agreed to share. They agreed on what is basically affirmative action. They agreed that they would eradicate poverty irrespective of race and that there should be no identification of race with economic function.
But it seems that some quarters nowadays chose to forget and chose to dismantle the concept that has been the pillar of our harmony all this while. They must now wake up and not let their head driven by greed. Unless they want to lose what they've been enjoying for decades.
Don't play with fire.

So if God owns this land then everbody can make ridiculous claims regardless of what agreed earlier? What a crap! Stick to what had been agreed and accepted all this while i.e social contract. A man of honour will keep to his agreeent. If some section of our multiracial community would like to abandon what had been agreed for decades, then fine, all terms & benefitd can be abandoned and withdrwan, including the granting of citizenships. Let all of us be the losers just for the sake of the greed and ingrorance of a few people like you.

If in a democracy, the majority decides to keep this law then so be it.
But in a democracy, the minority can also try to convince other to their view.
And this idea of demanding a share just because you are the favored race and in so doing contribute nothing to the business, what kind of concept is this? Can this company become competitive with a 30% handicap. Is it fair to handicap businessman who could help develop the country.
