KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 1 - A Malay rights group is demanding MCA deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek pay RM2 million in compensation for allegedly questioning the special position of the Malays.
Mohd Apis Johar from the Young Malay Graduates Movement (GGMM) said he was disturbed by remarks made by Dr Chua late last month, in which he said he accepted Malay leadership but not Malay supremacy.
"Before Merdeka, with a stroke of a pen, two million non-Malays were granted citizenship," the group's lawyer Khairul Azam Aziz told reporters.
He added that the money would be donated to any organisation interested in the advancement of the Malay community.
In its notice of demand addressed to Dr Chua, the lawyer who acted on behalf of Mohd Apis, also urged the former Labis MP to retract his statement an issue a public apology.
"The statement of apology must be approved by us on behalf of our client before it is uploaded to your blog," said Khairul Azam in the notice.
He added that they would proceed with legal action if Dr Chua fails to comply with his demands.
GGMM also wants everyone to stop questioning Malay supremacy.
Its spokesperson Nik Rizman Sapian said the group is not linked to any political party but merely interested in defending Malay rights.
"For those who question Malay rights as stated in the constitution, we will not hesitate to take action," said Nik Rizman.
Earlier, the small group, who were outnumbered by members of the media, marched from the Ampang Park LRT station to Wisma MCA to hand over the notice.
The notice was received by MCA official Yap Chin Chin, who said that she would forward it to the party's leadership.
Dr Chua's remarks on Malay supremacy has drawn criticism from Malay leaders including Umno Youth chief Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein who reportedly said that it would be better for BN component parties to join the opposition if they continue harping on the issue.
MCA president Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat has distanced himself from his deputy by saying the remark is not the party's stand.

I was at the World Aids Day gala at Berjaya Times Sq yesterday and the message is that AIDs do not recognise any races, religion or nationalities. One of the Malay singer even sang the song "Friends" in Cantonese and he joked with some malays there that they must be surprised that he can converse and sing in cantonese ! Come on, you are idiotic politicians, pls wake up and slap yourself in the faces, Stop all these nonsense.

No one is questioning these guaranteed special rights. Malay supremacy, on the other hand, is a smokescreen created by UMNO to create ill-feelings amongst the different races in Malaysia. Before pot wishes to call the cattle black, let us question how our friends here should be calculating back payments and land titles to the orang asli of which they have taken away their land, sent them to reservations and even at this moment are logging the very forests the kaum pribumi have known as theirs since the days of old. Add the land payment, loss of sustenance and lifestyle and add into that compund interests for all the years the orang asli had to bear with the foreigners entering their land and taking it away I'm not even sure if GGMM can afford to pay up. I advocate the orang asli form a interest group and demand payment from Mohd Apis and I don't think RM2 million would cut it. The payment would be used to advance orang asli rights and interests like better schools, housing, health care and more. This is more a stunt than anything else. Shame on them.

Hei, before mederka, only have “Raja Putih” or “Raja Melayu”, all common people are just “hamba”, whatever race they are called.
Before Mederka, even Malays are just “hamba”. There is only “Ketuanan” for the British in the Strait Settlements (Penang, Melaca & Singapore), Sabah & Sarawak, and for the “Sultans” in other states in the peninsula. And for 3 years in this land, the “Jepun” is the only “Tuan”.

So now as Anak Mederka, we will not let any person or group to call them “Tuan”. WE, the MALAYSIAN are the only TUAN in this LAND.

But, WE, all MALAYSIAN has paid by our undivided royalty and all due contributions for this beloved nation. I wonder all this called themselves “Graduates”, are that really graduated already, in a sense as Malaysian. Or, are they faithfully paying their due taxes for our country, or are they start to pay taxes already???

While one medical graduate makes a statement that hurts another, the other set of graduates want some free money for words uttered. While one should have ideally made the statement while still powerful in MCA and in Government, the other still thinks of getting things without having to till the land.

what utter rubbish is this
it is not the malay special rights that has been enshrined in the federal constitution that is being questioned
what is being questioned is all this talk of malay supremacy or ketuanan melayu - if this ketuanan issue is true, then all other non malay citizens of this country are what - 2nd and 3rd class citizens?
if that is the case, UMNO might just as well pass an act in Parliament to state so directly - need not hide behind this veil of social contract to impose supremacy over others

oh my God!! i can't believe it when i read this article. hey, i'm a malay too. but i don't feel there's any need for an apology or payment whatsoever. when can these kind of organisations start to realize that we are all Malaysian regardless of our race or religion? the rakyat all wants to be together n live in peace n harmony. we want fair n equal rights. stop saying u represent the malay.

There is no points arguing and fighting over who is supreme, this is only for politicians who want to gain more mileage in their speech during election. We mixed with many races (Malay. Chinese , Indian ....) and they are well nice people, they never tell or mention who is more supreme when we are together.
We do not understand and why all these politicians or groups continue to bring out all these issues.
The most importance now is a political party that can unite all people for the better and future of this country. If we all become united Malaysia will be a prosperous country, it is a win win situation. the government will also become very rich because the people will pay a lot of taxes when they are earning good income.
Why don't all these groups help to fight inflation, solve economic problems during challenging times.
If you are good the public or the country will bear fruit through your labor not for arguing something that and may not be important to the eye of public.
Let everybody be united with one voice and without border (no issue on race) and work for a better Malaysia.

Honestly, I thought it was unfair to wack mamaks over every outrage that breaks out in this country, but today, after seeing this wht-named Mohd Apa Johar, i am compelled to change my mind.
Getting the independence was a collective effort, if it hadn't been the 2 million non-Malays in 1957, there wouldn't be a country called Malaysia.
GGMM, they surely fluncked their history.
Look at this Mohd Apa Johar, he only looks 10% Malay. If his demand has any remote chance of validity, he would have to chip in at least 90% of an individual isntallment.
MCA is a real disappointment, why entertained this bunch of monkeys! Should have just shu them away. Yet again, it was MCA, what am i expecting.

Let's constitutionalized the population of Malay to be 51%, Chinese 25% or below and the rest come what may. Firstly, I guarantee you the Chinese would support in their hearts. Secondly, this is an impasse over "UMNO ACCUSSATION" of Malay being dominated. Recent GE lost shows alot about DIRTY UMNO to all Malaysian.
