KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 4 — In a bid to allay the public’s perception, the police will get an independent body to carry out a survey on crime and come up with ways for the authorities to tackle criminal activities.
Even though police figures show that the country’s crime rate is relatively low, the public thinks otherwise.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar, however, believes the survey results would be close to that of the police’s.
He hoped today that the public would be more confident about safety with the move to engage an independent body to conduct the survey.
Also, there would be more efforts to get NGOs and residents associations to be involved in community policing in the fight against crime.
Syed Hamid also said police stations would be made more people-friendly so that the public would not feel intimidated when lodging reports or getting police advice.
