KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 4 – Mingguan Malaysia, the Sunday edition of the Umno-owned Utusan Malaysia, appeared to play the race card today in an editorial which accused Perak mentri besar Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin of being under the thumb of the DAP.
The newspaper, which has nationalist Malay leanings, published an editorial written under the pen name Awang Selamat that criticised Nizar, who is from Pas, for awarding permanent land titles to Chinese new villages.
“What is in question is why such privileges are given to residents of new villages which are generally populated by the Chinese? In fact Chinese independent schools have also been given wide tracts of land of all things to help raise funds. Why is the same status not given to the residents of traditional kampungs? Religious schools are also not given this special attention.”
Utusan Malaysia generally represents the more conservative groups within Umno who often champion the cause of the Malay language and Malay rights.
It has recently been embroiled in a row with the DAP, as the party’s senior parliamentarian and Selangor state executive councillor Teresa Kok was detained for a short while under the Internal Security Act (ISA) based largely on an article in the newspaper suggesting she was biased against Malays.
Kok is now suing the newspaper.
Today, the newspaper hit out at Nizar for his administration’s insistence on going ahead with plans to award land titles to villagers, which was an election promise, despite an attempt by the federal government to block the move.
Awang Selamat, which is the pseudonym frequently used by one of the senior editors at the newspaper, wrote that it was clear that Nizar was using the politics of land to garner support from the non-Malays.
Citing speculation, the newspaper accused Nizar of following the orders of the DAP.
It also asked why retired military and police personnel who used to receive land from previous Barisan Nasional (BN) administrations did not receive such privileges anymore.
“Is he (Nizar) not paying attention to them because he has not got instructions from the DAP?”

The more narrow the thinking of a race, the more they will be backward. Just look at China today, when the country was under Mao Ze Tong who ruled with iron fist, the country went no where. When Deng Shiao Peng took over, he liberalised the country and you could see the results of the creation of a civil and open society in China.
Another country to look at is Cuba. The one near to home is Burma. They remain backward and the governments in sitting are treated like pariah by international community.
This policy will backfire. There are so many alternative media available to the Malays here. The Malays here could evaluate for themselves how objective and accurate this lousy newspaper is to them.
They could choose to have a progressive outlook or otherwise.

In Putusan Malaysia, Malays are always portrayed as victims of marginalization as long as they are not under UMNO administration. For decades, kampung2 in Perak, Penang, Selangor have been under developed and left rotten under UMNO/BN corrupted management, but it was never mentioned nor examined by Utusan. Now all the sudden, Malays are reported of being marginalized. Why? all because now that these states are under PR. Utusan's accusation of Nazir is more baleful that it sounds, it set out to cast in a bone between PAS and DAP. Mark my word, a few days later some smart alec UMNO minister will come out with delusional foretell like "PR is going to split", "abruption forseseen in the PR".
Utusan Malaysia is not newspaper, more appropriately a propaganda sheets of UMNO.
Zero credibility.

Utusan should check how much the Malays have benefited under the past 50 years, kampungs and felda schemes were carried out to give land to the landless Malays, Kampungs have benefited from rural electrification and utility provision. Mosques, suraus and religious schools built in every village to spread the islamic religion. Now 10 months after PR took the state, Utusan has said that the Malays have been betrayed by Nizar, through what? inaction? collusion with the infidels?
The writer should look back at history, whereby the chinese were herded together in new villages to counter the communist insurgence. They were uprooted from homes, their freedom restricted and at times the facilities were not provided with the basic needs for living. 50 years on, most of these settlers are still living in these villages, titleless, forgotten and not given the recognition for their sacrifices. Now who is the one neglected? Think people. It is about time they are given the land they have worked and lived on for generations. Lest we forget.

UMNO as big brother had for the past continue bullying MCA, MIC .. they were asked to shut up often. However, UTUSAN can continue to write whatever racial arcticles and no warning being given.
By right, Utusan shall be revoked its publishing license and closed down for playing racial sentiment !

We once had to collect donation to buy milk/groceries for an Indian family who gave birth but had no money or nothing at all for her baby. Their living conditions were so bad, it dreaded us to think we lived in Malaysia.
I have also seen poverty in Chinese villages.
Talk about fairness. You UMNO putra's/ Utusan people, you live in glass houses, please dont throw stones.

Nizar is his own man and the fact that he has to work with the other races warrants respect.
Being a Perakian through-and-through, I've witnessed BN (especially under Ramli Ngah Talib) misuse funds and abuse power all the time.
If only the mainstream papers, especially Utusan picks up the actual work done by the State reps, then people would see why majority Perakians chose to vote for PR last elections.

Funny, this story is not carried by the English mainstream media. Why? The crux of the matter, the motive of the article by RACIST Utusan Malaysia, owned by UMNO, a political party based on RACE at this point in time IS TO WIN THE KT BY-ELECTION. After all, it's UMNO vs. PAS. Get it?
I assume, in Kuala Trengganu, Utusan Malaysia is the main paper sold and the majority of the people have no access to the alternative media through the internet. Hence their blatant audacity in print. It only shows how desperate UMNO is and to what ends they will go to win the KT By-Election; whatmore with UMNO election round the corner.
On a positive note, spin on Utusan Malaysia! At least we the rakyat know that Pakatan Rakyat is fulfilling their election promises, slowly but surely; unlike BN, champions of NATO (No Action Talk Only), good on paper only.
So people, look beyond the spin and stay focused on the big picture. We want better governance for ALL Malaysians, irrespective of race and religion. That's the bottomline.
We, the rakyat, can read in between the lines and we'll show you, all political parties, who really is the Boss! Want to stay in power? Get down to work. Real work to rebuild this nation. Simple as that.

I challenge Awang Selamat, if he is monitoring these posts, to specify exactly what Malaysia should do to improve the country's international competitiveness, attract more and better foreign investments, upgrade the country's infrastructure on a truly open tender basis, make strict meritocracy the basis of appointments and promotions in the Cabinet, civil service, government-linked companies, the judiciary, the police and the armed forces, improve the country's national education system to make national schools the automatic choice for all Malaysian children and to make Malaysia a better place to live, raise a family and work.
But, of course, this would tax the intellectual capabilities of Awang Selamat (and his Utusan apparatchiks) to the utmost, and, even then, they would be hard pressed to come up with logical and meaningful answers.
How about it, Pak Awang? Are you man enough to accept my challenge?

On the land conversion, the Malays have always got their land titles. The orang asli does not. The Chinese in settelments were bluff by MCA that it is impossible (without trying). I think the same goes to Indians. What is wrong with locals getting land titles when UMNO Johor is selling freehold lands to Singaporeans? Recently , Sarawak also expressed their intention to grab the singaporean market. Both states are BN owned and they kept quiet when selling of lands to foreigners. What about needy Malaysians?

The stupidty of people like joe the plumber never fails to astound me. Land is a state matter and no federal government policy can override the Federal Constitution. It is for the Perak state government to decide whom to give freehold land titles to based on the special circumstances of each case. As it stands these people have been occupying state land for decades and are entitled to permanent titles. It is not a case of giving land to any Tom, Dick and Harry unlike during the BN administration when it was a case of giving land to UMNO members, their families and cronies purely to enrich themselves. If the rakyat in other states demand the same then it is for their respective state governments to decide whether to grant similar freehold titles or not. These other BN controlled state governments are not bound by the Perak decision. At the end of the day it is the rakyat that benefit and not the UMNO/BN parasites who claim to be the majority! Hidup Rakyat Perak!
People like joe the plumber just rave and rant because they have got a rocket up their bottom that is likely to stay beyond the next general election!

The fact this is an issue that UMNO ultra still manipulate, shows how they have not let go of outdated and perverted ideas i.e., they have not moved on and in fact the perversion is that they have ever said and thought is right. If UMNO cannot move the ultras on such an obviously outdated issue, what hope is there of moving them on issue such as the 'Ketuanan Melayu' and Islamization? This what people don't get, UMNO cannot reform. Its tied to its perverted past and can't move. It can only cover its perversion and it can't do it any more...

What's the matter, brudder? Not confident about your views or your ability to express them?
I note that you seem to have no problem in expressing your views and opinions on controversial topics, although you seem to be very careful to limit the publication of those views and opinions in just one publication.
Come on, Pak Awang. I thought that you had more testicular fortitude than this!

utusan fail to realise this that is the reason why the management need to raise it daily distribution price of RM1.50 per copy. Even at this price utusan struggle to survive financially as it fail to understand the simple logic of doing bad to others, will receive twice the bad karman from god.

Why can't UMNO goons do the same or even better rather than misquoting the Constitution to possibly block what PR State Governments wanted to do ?
Fight it out in delivering results than political polemics will make the nation better. Come on !

Don't try to act smart after reading a few paragraphs from the NLC.
It is an open secret in Melaka, where UMNO snake abuse state's power alienating lands for their cronies. "Name a land you want, and i can give it to you."
Blind supporters have one common symptom, getting more and more stupid.

Stop beating about the bush & give three or four letter arguments. Is that the best you can throw out of your mouth? Refute what I've just stated with substance, one by one, like a real man. Don't baling batu sembunyi tangan.
Yes S. 76 is about, among others, state alienating the land for public purpose. It must be read together with other provisions I mentioned above. But it must be done in consultation with and deliberation by the National Land Council, which also consist of rep from each state, based on the spirit of federalism.
State government leaders can't just run their business like their grandfarhers' coffee shop. Maybe the recipients deserve what the titles, but use proper chanel lah... don't be too eager politicking.
