KLANG, Jan 11 – MCA president Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat said the party would take advantage of the Kuala Terengganu by-election campaign until polling on Jan 17 to identify the needs of Chinese voters in the parliamentary constituency.
Although the Chinese voters there numbered only 8,375 or about 11 per cent of the total in the constituency, he said they could still determine the outcome of the by-election.
“Based on MCA's experience in several by-elections before, each state has its priorities which may reflect the needs of voters, which can also be influenced by the kind of local and national issues raised during the campaign period.
“Therefore, the MCA needs to identify the concerns and priorities of the Chinese voters to enable the party to provide the feedback on the issues raised,” he told a news conference here after officiating a Klang MCA division motivational programme today.
Asked about the by-election campaign, Ong said it was still early to ascertain which party had the most support since anything could happen at the last minute.
“But what is important is for the Barisan Nasional (BN) by-election machinery to work harder to win the hearts of the constituents.
The by-election will see a three-cornered fight involving BN's Datuk Wan Ahmad Farid Wan Salleh, Mohd Abdul Wahid Endut from PAS and independent Azharudin Mamat. – Bernama

Politics in the MCA is about ELITES and their struggle for power and money against each other. Why you left out Dato Chui when he was elected by the members of MCA to be the Deputy President. You not only cheated Dato Chui but also you also CHEATED the members who elected him. Why you never drop Ong Ka Chuan from the Cabinet who lost in the election and rejected by the people?
Politics in MCA has becomes a power game for ELITES who literally buy support through handouts The fact that newspapers in political parties does not argue well for the media's role as defender of truth and democracy. What did you do to your STAR newspaper.? Changed everyone who does not follow your way. Thats not right.
When are you going to tell the TRUTH about the PKFZ scandal? Provided you tell the truth maybe the people will give you a chance and listen to you or esle it is better for you to keep your mouth shut. Remember silence is golden. Corruption results in the decline of morale and leads inevitably to inefficiency within the public sector. l dont think that you are prepared to fight for truth.
If Malaysian elected leaders in the BN could emulate and follow the qualities of integrity, clear sightedness and humility then Malaysia would be a better place to live in.

For heaven's sake OTK the Chinese have been hoodwinked by MCA for far too long. Just keep quiet and direct all your party members not to go to or to campaign in KT.

If there is anything MCA need to identify, it is the party's policies! Are the actions taken by the many Chairmen of MCA all along after Tun Tan Cheng Lock doing what Tun Tan had originally planned for MCA? Tun Tan never propose that MCA get into business, set up KSM, Kojadi, Multi-purpose and all the business organizations of MCA and take over China Press!
By diverting into the commercial field, just how much time and effort is left with MCA to deal with the problems of the people, especially the Chinese in Malaysia? Has OTK identified all these yet? If not, then where the hell he has the time to go all the way to KT to identify the needs of the Chinese in Trengganu?
