IPOH, Feb 4 – A Barisan Nasional (BN) government in Perak is looking all but certain after a PKR state assemblyman defected back to Umno while three independents pledged their support for the coalition.
Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Nizar Jamaluddin also failed to secure consent from Sultan Azlan Shah to dissolve the state assembly in his last ditch attempt to have fresh polls and head off BN's attempt to seize power.
“The decision is now with the Sultan,” Nizar told reporters after an audience with Sultan Azlan Shah.
At a press conference in Putrajaya earlier, Deputy Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Razak announced to reporters that Jamaludin Mohd Radzi, Osman Jailu and Hee Yit Foong would back a BN government while Datuk Nasarudin Hashim, who had just two weeks earlier defected to PKR, would rejoin Umno.
“BN now has the majority to form the next government. We will seek an audience with the Perak Sultan.
“BN has 28 seats now, which is equal with Pakatan Rakyat, but we have three extra who are friendly to Umno and BN,” Najib said
He added that the three independent lawmakers had also informed the Sultan in a letter sent yesterday that they had quit their parties.
All four assemblymen appeared at the press conference with Najib.
Jamaluddin, Osman and Hee had earlier turned independent while Nasarudin had defected to PKR less than two weeks ago.
“The situation in the state is critical. I have to make sacrifices,” Nasarudin said when asked why he had decided to rejoin Umno.
The other three did not speak to reporters.
With their defections, it is looking likely that BN will get to form the state government.
More PKR lawmakers are also expected to defect to BN.
Najib said BN representatives would meet the Sultan as soon as possible to seek his consent to form the next state government.
With the defections to BN, the Pakatan Rakyat will only have 28 seats to Barisan Nasional’s 31 in the 59-seat assembly.
Nizar is now resting PR’s hopes on the Sultan in the hope that consent will still be granted for fresh polls.
The PR alliance of PKR, Pas and DAP are confident of winning fresh polls with a bigger mandate.
But with a four seat majority, and more defections likely, the Sultan looks likely to accept BN’s offer to form the next government.

The people of Perak has spoken on March 8th. 2008 and if there is to be a change of government, it
should not happen without the rakyat being involved again. This is what 'government of the people, by the
people' stands for! HRH should see the importance of uplifting this principle and a fresh mandate of the
Perak citizens' sought to determine the new government. Let true democracy be seen to be practiced!

1. I pray that HRH, The Sultan, whom I am sure have ears to the ground and gets his own intelligence reports on the happenings in His State, will do the right thing and call for a snap election and why doing so, explain to all the politicians that the reason for His decision is He does not want MPs lacking in integrity in His State, let this be a lesson to ALL politicians from ALL parties.
2. From now on, I will demand to know the background of the candidate before I vote for him and I hope everyone will do the same, if we only vote for candidates with integrity and sincerity to serve, I believe no matter which party they are from, people of integrity who see the 'big picture' will find ways to work together for the country, regardless of which party they belong to.

It is also tearful to see that politicians nowadays are all chicken. They follow they tide; they have no principals, and they are easily bought. They go missing without having the courtesy of informing the leadership of their absence. Just disappear, and then gone for good...
Ya, I feel sorry for Datuk Seri Nizar if BN successfully takes over; those shit didn't even give him and his team a chance to lead Perak.
And as for BN... you will lose my vote for sure, and the votes of thousands others, too.

Giving neither PKR nor BN the majority. BN friendly independants means nothing to BN unless they join BN.
The current situation will give a weak state govt and will not be good. Just within the last few days, several frog jumping occured. Even if BN form the next state govt, who knows for how long because it appears to me that there are too many frogs around... and at the end, the people suffer.
Fresh election would be ideal to clearly give one or the other the mandate to govern the state. This is not about taking sides on BN or PKR but rather to ensure that no stalemate in the state govt and also not to have 3 independant approving/disapproving the state govt plans and decisions.

Perak is a sovereign state, with its own Constitution, its own ruler and its own Government; although it is part of the Federation of Malaysia.
Who is Najib Altantuya to interfere in the affairs of Perak and what locus standi does he have to seek audience with the Sultan of Perak. He is not a Perak Assy'man. Stupid Federal leaders who don't respect and understand the concept of Federation and who thinks Malaysia is a unitary State or a Republic. The Sultan if he is wise enough should never grant any audience to Najib. I would be indeed be surprised is he grants Najib an audience.
Nizar, the MB, should understand that nobody can sack or kick him out from the MB's post and not even the Sultan despite all these hype of securing a majority by the BN. To sack Nizar, the DUN must pass a vote of no confidence on him and when such a vote has been passed, Nizar has to meet the Sultan informing him that a vote of no confidence had been passed and he then requested for dissolution of the Leg. Assy. If the Sultan refuses, then only Nizar is forced to tender his resignation. Until then he is safe like the rock of Gibraltar.
What makes Najib thinks BN could pass a vote of no confidence in the house. Two seats are declared vacant and if DAP submitted the pre-signed letter of its member, another seat would be declared vacant. With 56 seats left and with PR and BN having 28 seats, I don't think the vote of no confidence could be passed. Even then the vote of the Bota Assy'man, if secret voting were to take place', would be suspect.
I don't think BN would be able to pass a vote of no confidence agains Nizar in the DUN. With a hung Leg Assy. the Sultan would have no choice but to dissolve the Leg Assy. If I were in Nizar's shoes, I would clearly be able to sleep in peace. Afterall these things are expected given the PR's slim majority of 3 seats.

We must all look at this setback for PR positively and creatively. Do not lose hope for Malaysia because God has a greater plan beyond the obvious cat and mouse game.
Look at the irony of the situation: The unethical cross over planned by Anwar failed last September. However, God may allow the devious cross-over and reverse takeover of the Perak state government by BN for one very good reason: the whole population of Perak and the country will start to see how unethical and undemocratic is the BN in trying to gain power.
Let them win the war of cross-overs but they will definitely lose the battle for the hearts and minds of the voters.

The collapse of PR at the national level? That I do not know. What I do know is that at the national level disgust with your coalition among Chinese (fuming at the treacherous snake Hee - if there's one thing you can learn in Chinese history is that snakes and traitors are the most hated people of all), Indians (Kugan not being given a trial but summarily drowned by gangsters in uniform - what makes them different from USA torturing terrorists, something that UMNO always like to condemn), and Malays (fed up with corruption and arrogance of UMNO - lost Malay majority seats in Permatang Pauh and Malay heartland BN seat of Kuala Terengganu) has never been higher.
This is what is called the night is darkest before dawn. Take two steps backward in order to advance 3 steps forward. Lose the battle but win the war. Guess which side you are on, my dear Killer. The only thing brilliant about Najib is the power and violence of his goons who will stop at nothing to win, even framing Sirul for the murder of Altantuya, as a tearful ex-policeman did today in court. But I guess murder does not count for much among BN supporters. Wherever did their mother's teach them moral?

DAULAT TUANKU! We as the rakyat pleads for TUANKU'S wisdom in hearing the voice of the people. The rakyat acknowledged TUANKU'S wishes not to side any party. The rakyat pleads TUANKU not to hear the explanations of any party. A unity government is not the answer. Clearly, it can be seen both side could not work with each other. It will only create more chaos.
The rakyat does not accept the way Perak government is being taken over. The rakyat wants to have the government of their choice. The rakyat humbly ask TUANKU to hear their voices. The rakyat would like to decide who is their government.
Please hear our voices. DAULAT TUANKU! DAULAT TUANKU!

my dearie DSAI, i really hope that you read this! if you are sincere of fighting for the people, and not wanting to be PM, stop trying to lure the frogs in PR coz as much as you hate what they did to you, you triggered the frogs to jump in the first place.
and you know what, if PR and BN can’t do the job of fixing malaysia, we, the young generation will FORM a new party of clean and hard working, sincere people that TRULY represents the rakyat.remember, the Obama gov started in the backyard of a normal middle class family, outside of the high politics of the White House.we can do it too.
hell the economy is in dire state and you can still think of wrestling state governments?what kind of a leader you guys are!other countries in the world except MALAYSIA is worried sick about the economy and you guys can still harp bout your personal politics?come on!
dont keep on harping on that you represent the rakyat when actually you’re just riding the people’s feeling of disgust towards the gov. dear BN and PR, buck up.

If the Sultan does agree to dissolving the state assembly, he shall be viewed as siding with the PR-led government. On the other hand, if the much respected Sultan does not, the responsibility of resolving the situation falls right back into Nizar and primarily the state DAP's laps. As citizens of the state, we should support the latter because this is what we elected the reps for; to do their job amidst challenging political situation. Especially in such challenging situation.
If we easily subscribe to the widely suggested proposition by many legal experts, bloggers and newspapers columnists - to dissolve the state assembly and run a costly snap poll - we are participating in the political game of both PR and UMNO, unwittingly. It is our job to vote and let our preferred leader be known; it is the responsibility of Nizar and co to lead and govern, which includes resolving such issue. It is our duty to be productive and contribute to the building of the state and the nation; it is the Menteri Besar and team's duty to provide for the right facility and environment for doing so, which include addressing such political instability.
Please do not dissolve the state assembly, my HRH. It is politically immature for Nizar if in every instance of so-called instability, he goes running toward the easy solution by calling on Pak Ruler to bail the PR gov out.
MB Nizar should respond politically, be it having 'dialog' with the Gang of 4, force the dissolution of the state assembly but not must ensure the good name of the Sultan is seemingly not associated with the dissolution, or play other smart cards. You want to play politic, then you must have the strength to play with the mighty incumbent.

Whereas the BN way is so obviously dirty, first of all the 2 crowns were accused of corruption (which was believed to be a set up). Then they were threatened to jump ship, otherwise will be jail for them if they "refuse to cooperate".
Of course, the other 2 pros, I am not too sure the real reason, but obviously they were doing it not for the sake of rakyat.
Well, now we still have the other factor to hope for. If Sultan agrees for another election, then the who game will change. It might cost a lot more money, but definitely will result in more seats for PR. That will stop the game of party hopping by BN once and for all. Let's pray.
The sad thing is that, when the whole world is concentrating on the war on Recession, our government is busy spending money on buying this Adun that Adun, this by-election and that by-election. Then comes the Umno election, another round of money politic. Nobody cares about the Recession and nobody care to take the preventive measure. The shameful part is that Malaysia does not destroy by the Recession, but by the ........ you know what I mean.
Is it doom time for Malaysia ?!?!

1) To have the whole state assembly dissolved for a fresh election is too costly. A by-election for the affected constituencies is more logical. It is fair to the rakyat in these constituencies, whether they had voted for the candidate or the party during the GE, to decide who should serve them.
2) The law should be ammended to force a by-election if an assemblyman resigns from his party.
This should lessen the incidence of assemblyman from being bought over.
It is perfectly alright for assemblymen to switch parties if he is dissatisfied with his but it is immoral to cause a government change by doing so.
Malaysian should unite to face a greater enemy - GLOBAL SLOWDOWN and accept the results of the last GE to move forward.
