KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 19 — De facto Law Minister Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz expressed his doubts at claims that Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) officers had acted together with an assemblyman when even he, who is the minister in charge, is not allowed to have discussions with them.
Earlier, Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had claimed that Lim Soo Nee, PKR’s state representative for Kulim, agreed to be “bait” and worked together with the ACA (now called the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission) to secure evidence of alleged bribery.
He claimed the attempt was made by agents of former Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mahadzir Khalid to effect defections in a bid to reinstall himself as MB.
“I am surprised that the ACA, which is supposed to be independent, can assure a complainant and discuss cases with them,” Nazri said.
He said that it was illogical that the ACA could discuss cases with members of the public whereas he as the minister in charge, was not allowed to discuss cases with the ACA to maintain its independence.
However, he said that if what Anwar says is true, then he would urge the MACC to investigate the allegations as he does not condone cover-ups.
“If the assemblyman can give me the name of the officer and other particulars, I will demand the MACC make a statement to clarify on the matter,” Nazri said.
