KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 26 — A group from Selangor Umno Youth, led by its Serdang chief Ungku Mat Salleh, attempted to stop DAP veteran leader Karpal Singh from entering the Parliament building today to demand that he apologise for saying yesterday that Umno Youth was responsible for sending bullets in the mail to him recently.
Pakatan Rakyat representatives N. Gobalakrishnan and Lim Lip Eng tried to protect Karpal but were roughed up by the Umno group members.
Karpal eventually managed to make it into the Dewan Rakyat safely.
Also present outside the Parliament building was Gombak Umno Youth chief Megat Zulkarnain Omardin who told reporters that they are Umno members who are willing to die defending the party.
“They must stop insulting the Rulers and the Malays,” said Megat Zulkarnain.
He added that Umno Youth's patience was running out.
The group also tried to stop DAP lawmakers from speaking to the press, challenging them to engage directly with the Umno Youth leaders present.
Backbenchers Club president Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing later met the group and urged them to disperse.
The Bintulu MP said he regretted that such an incident happened inside the Parliament compound and hoped that security would be beefed up.
“They were provoked, but they should know how to handle it and not get emotional,” said Tiong, who claimed that he did not know the reason why the group had gathered.
“I heard there was a fight so I came down, but this is still within the Parliament compound so they must respect Parliament,” added Tiong.
Inside Parliament, Karpal angrily denounced the scuffle, calling the youths “gangsters” and complaining that he was delayed for 10 minutes while the security officers did nothing to intervene.
He also demanded to know what measures the Speaker, Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia, would take to ensure safety in Parliament.
“I may be disabled but I will not stand for intimidation,” he said.
The Speaker warned Karpal not to raise his voice and said that he would speak to the police as well as the Home Minister.
A shouting match also erupted with lawmakers from both sides standing up and shouting at the same time.
The BN MP for Pasir Salak, Datuk Tajuddin Abdul Rahman, then offered an olive branch by saying that he agreed with Karpal that such incidents should not happen.
Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim also tried to bridge the partisan divide by saying that even if it was a Pakatan Rakyat group which physically attacked a BN member, he would also object.
When contacted by The Malaysian Insider, Umno Youth deputy chief Khairy Jamaluddin said he regretted that the incident took place. “Our official stand is that we don't condone violence towards other politicians especially members of Parliament.” He promised to look into the matter.

Many BN leaders seemed to have lost their 'nuts'. The road they have taken in tackling the opposition, is leading them down the gutter. It is such a pity that after 50 years, they have regressed in their outlook. This regression is the result of the fear of losing power. Unless they 'awake' from this utopia, there is no guessing where they will be at the next GE. Will they 'let go' of the reign so easily? My only hope is, there is no violence in the process. Judging from the events taking place, it seems highly unlikely there can be any peaceful transition. The rakyat must therefore come together to prevent violence at every cost. And we can, with ONE VOICE! For the time being, forget the Police, AG, Judiciary, Rulers or any politician.

Double Standards - when opposition parties have gathering, police were SOOOOOO QUICK to react to the extent of using violence!!! However, when the people from the government gather to show protest even to the extent of using violence, the security seems to be SOOOOOO SLOW to react!!!

Who else would send bullets to Karpal? Surely it must be UMNO Youth sponsored terrorist. These people are too emotional, that they behaved more like monkeys than normal human beings. To my fellow malaysian. Why should we be surprised at this particular incident? Come on, this is UMNO, the core of the Barisan Nazi. In fact we should face it calmly. Whenever there is a party election coming up, they are out there to pick a fight. The only thing is, this time there is really a fight. Today we hear that they are willing to die for a party, which implies they are social police and judge. Even if the party has done something wrong, they will defend and die for it. Don't you think the same people are those who will send bullets to anybody they dislike? Come on, the other day we just have a politician who sworn to defend the royalty to the last drop of blood. Didn't the same party voted to have the immunity of royalty removed? Don't get angry my fellow Malaysian, there are plenty of drama coming up in March. Let's watch them. There is really no surprise. The more they did it, the faster they will go.

I see the incident outside the Parliament as an act of gangsterism by our so-called Youth leaders. They act as if they OWN this country. Let them be reminded that this whole world belongs to everyone, and no one owns anything. The privileges that they have been given by the govt and by the constitution have in a way made them into what they are now.

1.‘They were provoked but they should know how to handle it and not get emotional’ – Tiong King Sing. This is an idiotic remark. Karpal’s previous comments were not provocative but he was just stating his understanding of the law. In civilized society this invokes discussions. In idiotic and uncivilized society, this might look like provocation. Being the Backbenchers Club President, Tiong should have alerted the Speaker on this security risk and got the police to arrest these criminals who stopped a member of the legislative from performing his duties.
2.The comment that Karpal was insulting the Rulers and the Malays etc was unfounded and probably an UMNO creation to gain public sympathy and support, which they know they will get from the uninformed, uneducated or naïve masses. UMNO youth gives the impression that they seem to thrive on this. Umno youth should look at it as a legal opinion that Karpal wanted to test out in court.
3.The other two MPs were manhandled and this is shown from the photos taken. What more evidence does the police need? They should arrest and charge those involved without fear or favour.( I mean the aggressors and not the victims, pleeease!!!)
4.The security guards should be sacked for not taking action immediately. Are they guards or just doorman and gatekeepers?
5.The Speaker should not just speak to the police and Home Minister. This is not a matter to be taken lightly and just to be ‘spoken’. Proper action as in reporting to the police to arrest these criminals should be done.

If the "Speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia expressed regret" over the incident, which he said was a "First in Parliament". The Speaker added that he would ask the Home Ministry to investigate the matter and "vowed that such incidents would not recur." (What a JOKE !)

YB Karpal is such a brave man. Why is security so slack in the compounds of Parliment? Where were the policemen or security guards? Tutup mata? I dread to think what would have happened to YB Karpal if his fellow PR MPs were not there. How come no statement or comments from the IGP or UMNO top guns? The use of violence by UMNO youths against a disabled wheelchaired parliamentarian in Parliament compound reflected real badly on UMNO and the non-action by the security and the police speaks volume on the professionism and creditability of the police and the govt machinery as a whole . This is another incidence showing the arrogance and disrespect of UMNO of the laws of the land. By not taking disciplinary actions against such cowwardry hooligans ,it implies condonement of such lawlessness within ranks and files of UMNO by its leadership. It is no surprice that UMNO could not reign in rampant corrupt practises among its leaders despite empty talking for years to eliminate it. I for one is tired of UMNO with their repetitive threats of don't challenge the Malay craps. When are the UMNO Malays going to wake up and realize that they if they don't want to be challenged then behave and act democratically. After over 50+ years of previledges given to them by the UMNO government, they are still behaving like everybody owes them.
Time to be a man and standup for yourself. Take some lessons and learn how and what make a country progress. I am ashame of the quality of the government and the law enforcement agencies. These agencies must work for every citizens regardless of party affiliation, unfortunately, they have been trained to cow-tow to the ruling government. I just don't see how all these is going to change unless we have a wholesale changed in the ruling government and security agencies.
The speaker of parliament is a joke. All member of parliaments are under his protection but he have no balls to go after anybody who are affiliated by BN. What hope do we have?

It is really a sad day for our country specificly for the democracy of our country.
Firstly, the insitutution of parliament was insulted by the thugs from pemuda umno.
The law was broken in a place where laws were made.
What has worse was a law maker was harressed and imtimidated in this sacred place.
Secondly, shame on all these pemuda umno thugs for harassing and intimidating a handicap person.
If they are really big "champions", they should go pick on someone who can actually "fight".
I hope that the almightly put them in a "handicap" situation one day with thugs all around.
Only than, maybe, maybe, they will know how it feels to harress and intimidate a handicap person.
Thirdly, I do not know what is the big deal abt the word "Singh Is King".
When we say "King for the day" refering to the bride and groom during a wedding and "I am the King of my house" as an owner will refer to his purchased home, it does not mean that you have become the king of the country.
So what if Mr Karpal said "Singh Is King" referring to a recent bollywod blockbuster title, it does not mean that he has replace the king.
Why are these pemuda umno thugs getting excited because of that?????
Again, what is the big deal about that???
Lastly, I feel sorry our beloved country.

When asked if Karpal provocked UMNO Youth's reaction, overwhelmingly many people don't think so. Its accurate BUT Karpal did bait them may intentionally maybe not. It does not matter. The bottom line is Karpal words should NOT be provocative. UMNO Youth suppose to be held up to a high standard to befit their suppose 'maruah' or pride as a national youth political party. You don't see young Republicans or Democrats or Tories or Labour reacting to unfounded allegation so negatively. It was indeed one the most embarrassing scene in the history of parliament in Malaysia. It shouldn't happened. Personally, they (especially the Pemuda UMNO) shows how childish and immature are they by confronting Karpal in such a way. Things can be handled in so many way, and its all about choices. Smarter people will never act like that. I am really upset and sad on our political scenario lately. It become worst and ugly.
I remember my parents told me not to get myself into trouble. If someone call u 'stupid' or 'sial' or any hash or mean word, just ignore them because you know who you are. By confronting them you are actually approved on what they were saying. Sometimes silence is the best weapon. But i reckon that this is not applied on those who are involved in politics. In politics, when sum1 called u 'celaka', u should confronted them and kick their ass. It is to show to the people how heroic they are. Because if don't, other will take u for granted. That's real dilemma.

What I would like to hear from the experts is were any laws broken when this group 'invaded' parliament and obstructed and threatened elected MPs. That is the issue here and not what was said inside parliament. The DPM just spoke against 'the culture of violance' and today we have a group representing the ruling party creating mischief. The silence from the Government and the Police is deafening. Should we wait for the outcome of Parliamentary committee just appointed or should the Police investigate immediately - this is the real question I am sure the Public wants to know.
