MARCH 1 – In extraordinary remarks today, Pas spiritual leader Datuk Nik Aziz Nik Mat said the use of the term “bumiputera” smacks of racism and deprived other races of government aid.
His comments, made in Kota Baru today, will certainly spark debate, especially since it comes from a Malay leader who is widely respected even by his foes in Barisan Nasional and Umno.
In calling the term bumiputera racist, he appears to be drawing a clear line between his Pas party and the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) from that of Umno, which has been championing the special rights of Malays.
Nik Aziz’s remarks was made in response over growing criticism from the conservative spine of Umno against comments made by DAP’s Dr Boo Cheng Hau, the opposition leader in Johor.
Dr Boo was reported to have compared “bumiputeraism” with apartheid.
Umno leaders have demanded an apology from Boo, and say his comments were a challenge to Malay rights and the constitution.
Umno’s Utusan Malaysia also described Boo’s remarks as a part of DAP’s agenda to form a republic.
But Nik Aziz was reported by Bernama as saying today that not only did the term smack of racism but deprived other races sharing similar rights and having the same identity cards of government assistance.
“In an election, other races are allowed to cast one vote, so are the bumiputera," he said.
Nik Abdul Aziz said the government should form a body to manage aid for the poor in the country and not cater only for a single group known as the bumiputera.
“I don’t like the (use of the) word bumiputera. What I like is (use of the word) poor, for all races,” he added.
He said the poor, regardless of their race, should be given assistance.
His statement appears to be also in line with Anwar Ibrahim’s concept of “Ketuanan Rakyat,” or supremacy of the people, which has been used to diffentiate PR parties from Umno’s “Ketuanan Melayu,” or Malay supremacy.

Bumiputra is a wrong definition, why not just Malaysian?
I think Malaysia will forever soak in "ketuanan melayu" if this agenda never remove.
Look at those gaps between the rich and poor in Bumiputra we will understand the problem with NEP. However there is one Bumiputra who is very rich, which is UMNOPutras.

There are many pretenders who think they are great leaders.
Great leaders are rare and few -
but their thoughts are beyond their time,
their vision beyond our little corners of short-sightedness,
their words surpass all politicians' rhetorics.
Nik Aziz is one of them -
the term bumiputra is not even in our constitution,
but Umno uses it for their own political agenda to enrich the few - themselves,
Umno champion ketuanan melayu to divide this country that is multi-racial,
Umno use religion of Islam to dominate others, to ban, to manage other religions in this country which is multi-religious -
Umno is shameful, Umno is racist, Umno is anti-Malaysia - to restrict freedom of others, to deny others the freedom to worship God as of their traditions...Umno is ugly.
Fight Umno!!!!
MCA and MIC - don't just stand there - fight for freedom for all Malaysians.

I don't care what races Nik Aziz and religious he is, as long as he has such right mind and be fair to all Malaysian, he can be my country leader, so does Chinese, Indian,..etc. Serve the people right, he is the man.
Races issue is created by UMNO so that Malay can support them eventhough they are corrupted and mind their own interest. To all Malasian, wake up and help to poor regardless of races. We all races should grow stronger hand in hand to a greater height. PR has to make sure no one left behind. PR has to bring people of Malaysia a better life. BN is only make their own cronies life better but not Rakyat. Truth has spoken by al the corruptions, Highway contract, Land issue, Water issue in Selangor, and those detained under ISA...

i don't understand why bn doesnt find more time to tackle the "poor" problem, instead of cling on race issue? because they are useless/clueless to solve the problem or because this will highlight their poor management of the country for 51 years?

bumiputera means 'son of the soil' - aren't we all, the different races, who were born in malaysia, the son of the soil? so all of us, regardless of race, who were born here are bumiputera! but umno hijack the word bumiputera to mean it for the malays only - thus it IS racist.
if bumiputera are entitled to special privileges, of course for sure the word bumiputera is racist, of course bumiputera means apartheid. why can't the word bumiputera be done away with completely? oh cannot lah, because the top umno men (not those common malay rakyat) will die.... no masuk pocket... and the fanatics muslim will cry for non muslim blood with ketuanan melayu.

One which may provoke vitriolic debate for days and weeks to come , it has nontheless opened a fresh new vista of the political discourse in Malaysia.
This is a statement not for the non-Bumiputeras to repeat, but for the proponents and staunch supporters of Bumiputerism to take upon themselves to reflect on, with the full recource to God-given humanity and human social conscience. (Apologies to Tok Guru, and to all, for my using the term Bumiputra, so deeply ingrained in my psyche as in those of many Malaysians.)
No one possessed of basic decent humanity would begrudge government aid for the poor; such a role is indeed incumbent upon a people-orientated government. Why should we not support an economic policy by any name which delivers for the poor indigenous peoples of East and Peninsular Malaysia, and the Malay poor while not forgetting the poor among Indians and Chinese as well ?
Tonight Malaysians of all faiths or none, should take a moment of rare pride in these down-trodden times that they have a spiritual leader who is also a statesman as a political leader.
It may not disappoint Tok Guru however that one day in the future we may indeed cherish the term Bumiputera, when all will be regarded equals under the generous Malaysian sun; one day when Bumiputera would have lost any and all of its racial undertones.

Nowadays the Umno is also equating that even respectfully disagreeing with the Malay Sultans is akin to a hidden agenda of turning Malaysia into a republic. What dangerous nonsense is that. How irresponsible can they get. These Umnoputras are just twisting everything into a racial issue just to gather power no matter what the consequences might turn out to be for the country for fanning racial hatred.

Bumiputera if we were to literally translate it, it means "Land of the prince".
Bumiputera should apply to all races which we call "MALAYSIAN". I believe that is the only way we can stay together as one country, one nation, with multi culture and "RACE". All are Bumiputeras.......
In short, Bumiputera should be applied to all races that holds the citizenship of Malaysia. All citizen must be accorded equal rights.

When segments of the populations are discriminated based on racial criteria, it is definitely racism and worse, in Malaysia, it is state sanctioned.
Let's all Malaysians be Bangsa Malaysia and be treated fairly. That is the only way forward for the country. Look at South Africa, the white discrimated the black and then we got the Apartheid movement and now we have a Black government. We need to stop all these nonsense and have a Malaysia governed by all Malaysians. Forget about BN, it is just controlled by UMNO and the other components parties have no guts to oppose or speak their mind. This is why the concept of bumiputera became more and more racist.

Dato Nik Aziz Nik Mat had by his one word alone BLASTED A GAP WIDE OPEN BETWEEN UMNO AND THE PAKATAN and their differences in ideology. In the case of UMNO I believe that Dato Nik Aziz has pre-empted UMNO’s play to grab the middle ground as for example Syed Hamid had tried to remove the stigma of criminalising the word ALLAH, to win the Sarawakians for the upcoming Sarawak elections; and the controversy that has been generated so far spells disaster for the Barisan national. A loss of Sarawak to the Pakatan will mean the END OF UMNO AND THE BARISAN NATIONAL. UMNO knows that and now they have embarked on a mission of neutralising the certain backlash that will follow the election in Sarawak. Too little too late.
In this sense I say that the timely masterstroke executed by Dato Nik Aziz had strategically pre-empted a very likely move for the UMNO to minimise any likely backlash coming at the Barisan National for their obvious bigotry; but the crafty Dato Nik Aziz had struck first. This devision has cut a sharp and clear dividing line separating what is UMNO (Barisan) and what is Pakatan Rakyat. UMNO is too entrenched in their bullshit of Ketuaan Melayu to be able to move freely from their narrow ideology of Ketuaan Melayu. I say with conviction that the perceived acceptance by the Malays in their so called Bumiputra status is too much exaggerated, because by the results of the “08 march 8th election Pakatan had secured 54% of the overall votes; this can only mean that the Bumiputra factor had not played so decisive a role to pull the Malay votes.
Pakatan had already broken the taboo of Ketuaan Melayu and had campaigned on their strength of Pakatan Rakyat and they would have taken government if not for the gerrymandering of the constituency and the vote rigging and the complicity of the Judiciary in siding with the BN. My absolute adulation for the wisdom and vision of Dato Nik Aziz for seeing in the correct perspective the right time for breaking away from the Ketuaan Melayu millstone around the necks of Malaysians from progressing.
My suggestion to the leaders in the Pakatan Rakyat, from here on is to capitalise on this difference between BN vs, Pakatan Rakyat by emphasising THAT THE IDEOLOGY OF PAKATAN RAKYAT IS TO BENEFIT THE POOR OF THE NATION. This is intended to push UMNO and their goons towards a more pronounced and AGGRESSIVE FORM OF KETUAAN MELAYU. Such a strategy will further drive the Chinese & Indians away from supporting the BN. From the results of the last election we can see that BUMIPUTRA AND KETUAAN HAS NO T TOO MUCH APPEAL FOR THE MALAYS; this is due to the fact that DSAI has successfully lured the Malays away from the BN. I say to leaders of Pakatan to force UMNO to move further to the right; to create a scare for UMNO by the Chinese & Indians.
MY PREDICTION IS FOR A LANDSLIDE WIN FOR THE PAKATAN RAKYAT IN THE STATE ELECTIONS IN SARAWAK ! After that loss UMNO can never recover.

Many have wondered why UMNO still has 50% support of the malays in spite that it is the most corrupt party in Malaysia and its members have the least Islamic values since they are utterly corrupt and only care for themselves and their families/cronies. Why then the strong support from malays FOR umno?
It is because they have indoctrinated and divided Malaysians into bumiputras and non-bumiputras. If you are a bumiputra you're supposed to be special and have a leg up over the others. Therefore if you want to continue to be special and have a leg up over others, you must continue to vote UMNO into power year after year. The reality is that it is only the umnoputras who are accorded the special treatment while the ordinary malays continue to be among the poorest in Malaysia. Bumiputraism is the "spine" that has hoodwinked the malays for so long and held UMNO up all these while.
Take this spine away, all that is left in UMNO is the rotten decay and corruption. Take away bumiputraism and you take away the mask of UMNO and reveal its true rotten self! Nik Aziz has hit the nail on its head - this is the best and only way to hasten the downfall of UMNO!
It is like killing two birds with one stone - NEUTRALISE the power and influence of UMNO and at the same time drive a wedge between UMNO and its other BN component parties consisting of MCA, Gerakan, MIC, etc.

But before we move forth with championing this issue, we need to look back at ALL political parties. Malaysia has been built on race-politics and so has the whole world. While many has echoed that Bumiputera is an Umno issue, may I ask the vernacular school being who's issue? It has been voiced out by DAP as well as MCA and Gerakan. Whilst DAP has been championing for a Malaysian Malaysia, yet they believe that Vernacular schools should stay? I'd say this is bloody hypocrite... Period.
A united Malaysia must be dealt with from the fundamentals... and Malay rights are only up to the Sultan's position and the BM being official language. Any more is a concoction of the NEP. So, please, for those who thinks that Malay Rights=NEP, you are grossly wrong.
I'd say, Nik Aziz is right to say Bumiputera is a racist tagline - after all, Islam doesn't preach on race. It's a religion that is blind to skin colour - as per any other religion. Have Tok guru's views sits comfortably with the rest of PAS? or would this be another issue of personal opinion. As far as I can see, this is grossly out of line with UMNO's view and sadly, also with PR's since DSAI, too, believes that vernacular schools should stay. Any form of policy that distinguishes itself based on the race, should be deemed as a racism act and this stretches far beyond UMNO/BN's policies but also other politicians who leeches on this issue to become the next liberator/leader. We are doom if we continue with this scare tactics and segmentations.

Given these unhappy developments I believe it is Tok Guru's opening move to drivw a wide chasm between those who want to join UMNO and those who support Tok Guru. I think the strategy adopted by Tok Guru is a brilliant one; he has driven a wedge between him and the rebels and he has taken the middle ground of national politics.
I believe Tok Guru has seen the powerful pressure coming doqn on UMNO for change and that more than 1/2 of Malay voters have followed DSAI's PKR and DAP. To my thinking those Malays who have voted for DSAI will again vote for DSAI, what will move perceptibly will be a drift towards Pakatan Rakyat by the Chinese voters and this time after the imbroglio in Perak, the Chinese will not bother with support for MCA. This is the component of Malaysian society that both UMNO and the Pakatan will vie for support. The Chinese & Indians hold the balance of power; as we will see after the Sarawak elections. I am projecting my analysis towards the developments that will follow the settlement of the Perak crisis into the next general elections. My view is that Pakatan will win a landslide in the coming general elections based on what I perceive to be the most likely developments.
Going to my discussion on the developments in Perak Parliament, I hold steady my opinion that Counsel for Speaker Siva is the correct one, because the one point that the Sultan cannot interfere this time around is the submission of counsel for siva that Perak Parliament was not prorogued and therefore the Speaker's convening of Parliament is the resumption of the Parliaiment having been adjourned sine die and hence does not require the consent of the Sultan.

I remember some years ago when my next door neighbour from Negeri Sembilan tried to convince me that in Kelantan All Ethnic Groups are treated much more fairly than in other BN Contolled States. This was when Kelantan was the only Opposition Controlled State administered by PAS. My neighbour said that he has a son working in Kelantan & when he visited Kelantan On many occassions, he was indeed surprised himself to witness first hand the fairness of the Kelantanese Pas Administration. I was extremely sceptical then.
Over the very short term of less than a year I have been following the Perak State Administration of Pakatan Raayat lead by A PAS Menteri Besar. I could see that this Perak MB is more concerned with the Plight Of Perakians & focused his policies CUM ACTION to alleiviate the plight of Perakians. I saw a video clip where the then Perak MB (whom I am given to understand has to step down due to Political Manouverings in the form of Party Hopping) catchcry was "HIDUP, HIDUP" HIDUP RAAYAT!". How refreshing to see a leader FOCUSING on RA'AYAT rather being RACE CENTRIC.
These are 2 examples of PAS LEADERS who have CONVINCED me that " THESE ARE PEOPLE WHOM OUR CONTROLLED MEDIA HAVE PORTRAYED THEM AS RELIGIOUS EXTREMISTS IS NOTHING BUT, TO PUT IT BLUNTLY - A LOAD OF BULLSHIT".
Having seen these PAS Leaders IN THEIR DEEDS, I am not even afraid of the SCARE HUDUD TACTICS. In any faith, if it is seen to be FAIR, JUST, & NOT AFRAID TO SPEAK FOR THE WEAK OR THOSE BEING BULLIED" IT WILL OVER TIME, WIN SUPORT FROM HOMO SAPIENS OF EVERY SKIN COLOUR. Assuming, a person CHOOSING OUT OF HIS/HER OWN FREEWILL TO EMBRACE ISLAM, THEN HE/SHE SHOULD NOT BE AFRAID OF WHATEVER CONSEQUENCES/PUNISHMENT IF YOU DO INTEND TO NOT COMMIT CRIME OR ANY WRONG DOINGS AGAINST WHATEVER LAW OF THE DAY - PROVIDING THE LAW APPLIES TO ALL & NOT WHAT IS PERCEIVED TO BE LOPSIDED UNDER THE PRESENT FEDERAL ADMINISTRATION.
IF THE FEDERAL ADMINSTRATION ADMINISTERS FAIRLY THEN THE OPPOSTION WILL PROBABLY LOOSE ITS APPEAL. QUESTION IS, IT HASN'T HAPPENED FOR 5 DECADES, HENCE, TO HOPE FOR IT TO REINVENT ITSELF IS LIKE BEING THE CONTESTANT IN "SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE" - CAN HAPPEN BUT ONE IN A MILLION CHANCE.

At long last, it looks like Political Spirit is coming alive inside Malaysians. The fact that Datuk Nik Aziz Nik Mat said what he did indicates how much PAS has turned its group around because they have smelt success and they realise they need to change themselves and be more acceptable to the Rakyat in order to WIN the next GE. And boy, do they really, really want to win ! Even if the Opposition coalition wins the next election, this is not the end of BN. It will just be the start of (hopefully) "real" democracy. It will mean that BN, if they are smart, will have to take a hard look at their policies and have to make root and branch changes in order to try to win back the government seat after the next one (GE). That is how democracy ought to work. It's early days yet, remember, PKR has *NOT* yet won the election. And from now on BN will do all it can, and some would allege, will even practice below-the-belt "dirty political" tactics to prevent PKR from reaching the winning post before them. Unofficially, the Election Campaign for the seat of the next Malaysian government has already started !

1. That the term bumipetra is racist is a truth that the UMNO regime has tried to cover up and justify for many years. What a breath of fresh air to hear this from a Malay leader.
2. His comments about helping the poor regardless of race is also fair and good. At face value, I would be concerned about the socialist implications of helping the poor rather than equipping them to compete on a fair basis with those who are more economically endowed.
But we must remember Nik Aziz is a believer in God and his motive to help the poor is not socialist but ethical, which makes many bridges with all other races, of whatever creed or belief.
3. The dismantling of Apartheid in South Africa generated great long-term economic growth and benefits for the country. There was a revival of national unity among all and also forgiveness for past wrongs. Even though we do not have a political leader such as a Nelson andela here, I think the leaders in Pakatan Rakyat have the credentials and combined genius to carry out a similar soft revolution in Malaysia. Either 2012 or this year. It all depends on a change in mind set, heart set and commitment to action that follows our words.

I won't be so sure if it's DAP though, they have too many scores to settle. So is the PKR (vengeance is not my kind of politics). PAS on the other hand is moderate and makes a lot of sense (most of the time, though)...

Tok Guru sentiasa menekankan Keadilan Islam, Keyakinan pada Tuhan, dan Kesamarataan ( we r malaysian ).
Tak ada Istilah Ketuanan Melayu, Ketuanan Cina, Ketuanan India dan Ketuanan lain-lain.
Tok Guru Selau menyebut...
BUKAN UTK KEPENTINGAN SESUATU KAUM...

He is the man who does not care a hoot about his own personal gain (he still stayed in his kampung house despite being the MB) but he does care for his people. I have listened to many of his speech and sermon, and they always bring the tears of joy to my eyes.
I also would like you to invite you to see for yourself how Kelantan is today - it is so different from when BN was ruling. They said we are underdeveloped - yes, maybe we don't have Twin Towers BUT we have built the state with OUR OWN blood and sweat without big monies from government contracts. I am more proud to have a small success from my own efforts than big monies from dubious means.
UMNO always said PAS had distorted Islam to serve the political advantage - I will let you judge who actually distorts Islam to serve who's advantage. I never though this day will come when I see many non-Muslims are in support of TGNA. I am so proud and I now see hope for Malaysia to be a GREAT country for ALL law abiding & hardworking citizens...!!!

TGNA. Fahami DEB sebelum memberikan pendapat anda. Kesamarataan bukannya Keadilan.

Word: Racism (noun): 1 the belief that racial differences between people are the main influence on their character and abilities ... 2 dislike or unfair treatment of people based on this belief
If it walks like duck and sounds like a duck then it's probably a duck. Ever heard that phrase?
Do you hear a lot of quacking?
