SHAH ALAM, March 13 - The Selangor Islamic Religious Council (MAIS) has now banned the Indonesian song 'Allah Peduli' (Allah Cares) because of the word Allah in its lyrics.
MAIS chairman Datuk Mohamad Adzib Mohd Isa said today the song by Indonesian singer Agnes Monica used the word 'Allah' when referring to Jesus Christ and anyone found playing the song can be fined up to RM1,000 under the Non-Muslim Religious Enactment 1988.
Mohamad Adzib said the word "Allah" was repeatedly used in the song and the lyrics ended with words "Tak akan pernah dibiarkannya ku bergumul sendiri sebab Allah Yeses ku mengerti."
He said under the enactment, action can be taken against non-Muslims for using 'Allah' to describe their God.This latest move comes just a day after MAIS threatened legal action against the Bar Council for conducting two online polls on the usage of 'Allah' for non-Muslims, under the same enactment .
It was reported that the council was consulting their legal advisers on the appropriate action to take against the Bar Council.
Mohamad Adzib said the ban is in place to prevent Muslims from being confused.

This latest development is very dangerous, it may result to religous conflict in Malaysia - and it will be between Muslim Bumis and Christian Bumis.
Adzib must be stopped otherwise things will turn very ugly - religious riots - I pray to Allah this will not be...But Adzib is bend to stoke the fire of persecution.
This Religious Council - is it under the state government's jurisdiction??? Or is it directly under the federal government???
Can someone out there, please provide me the answer...This is so troubling!!!
Muslims telling Christians what can do and what cannot do!!! Isn't this interference to the religion of others???? Isn't this anti-constitutions???
Christians have been living in peace and never start any quarells with Muslims - why are they now want to find quarells with Christians??? This is very bad, I am very concerned with Adzib's attitude...
If MAIS is part of Umno institution, I am determined to vote them out of government!!!
Religion is a very personal thing...I don't impose on others how to worship God, and I don't condone anyone imposing their religious opinion on others...
This is turning out to be very rough, and MAIS is starting this dangerous path...
Don't destroy the harmony in Malaysia of multi-ethinicity and religions.

Muslims would be confused with their own God if non Muslims use the word? This must be the biggest insult to the intelligence of the Muslims I've ever heard. Now I know why most Muslims countries are so backward. Malaysia is really going into that direction with these bigots.
You better tell the Muslims not to use the word Tuhan less they may be confused with other people's God too.
Malaysia the model Islam country? My God.... Hide your face everyone!

So, I don't think the muslim world is confused, only your extremism and your narrow mindedness is. What you did is causing more disharmony in a multi cultural and multi religious society like Malaysia.
Your ban is unjustifiable and should be revoked.

2. did they patent a copyright or trademark on the word "Allah"?
3. sorry to say this, but indonesia is way ahead of malaysia when it comes to such matter. malaysia can have the article 11 but never fully practice it and in fact restricts it. where is the human rights? where is democracy?
i'm waiting for the news headline that says "man fined RM1000 for playing the indonesian song, 'Allah peduli'" the indonesians must be laughing.

MAIS just have a "holier than thou" attitude - are muslims so confused about the god whom they worship that they can be vulnerable to what others call their God? it is an insult to my intelligent muslim friends. MAIS' action reflects a sense of insecurity, nothing else. As far as i'm concerned, i will continue to worship my God and nothing can come in between my Allah the Father, Jesus the Son and the Holy Spirit. The Jews have been using the word since time immemorial, tell the Jews that they cant use the word "Elah" as well; which is where the word "Allah" derives from. Ignorance have blinded MAIS into arrogance.

Johor State Anthem contains the term Allah -
Either ban the state anthem or prohibit all non-Muslims from singing it,
Adzib tells us to ban this Lagu Bangsa Johor...doesn't he????
Utusan Melayu and Berita Harian also contain the term Allah,
Either ban these newspapers or prohibit all non-Muslims to stop reading it...
Adzib tells us to ban it, doesn't he???
Newsreaders for TV1 and TV2 and all local channels - they read the term Allah,
Either ban these tv channels or prohibit all non-Muslims from watching local news or drama...
Adzib tells us to ban it, doesn't he???
All national schools - primary and secondary schools - must stop praying to Allah during assembly...
Either ban these schools or prohibit all non-Muslims from attending public schools...
Adzib tells us to ban it, doesn't he???
All mosques and suraus must stop having all azan prayers through loud speakers using the term Allah,
Either ban the mosques or prohibit all non-Muslims from living in that area where they can hear the sound of the azan prayers...
Adzib tells us to ban it, doesn't he???
If Adzib wants non-Muslims to stop using the term Allah, then he must make sure all non-Muslims from the young to the elderly from hearing the term Allah, either in print or media - because they will use the term since they are hearing it all the time.
If Adzib wants the Christians to stop using the term Allah, he must prove that this term was never in Christian vocabulary. One day we will take him to court and ask him to prove to us all...
Arab Christians use this term for 2000 years. Indonesian and Malaysian Christians have been using this term for centuries...
I don't know who is confusing whom???? Adzib is confused. Mais is anti-Christian.
Is Mais part of the federal government, part of Umno - Vote Umno OUT!!!

I mean, come on! Get real! Are my fellow Malay/Muslim Malaysian citizens so easily confused?
What next? Ban any other religion from calling its teaching "The Truth"?
Ban other religion from calling their God "God"?
Ban other religion from saying that their religion is the way to "Heaven"?
All because the Muslim faith share similarity?
The funny thing is, the Arabs have no issue with other religions using the word "Allah" except in MALAY-speaking Malaysia.

The purpose is to ensure Muslims do not get misled by the reference Allah Yeses.
So why are non-Muslims riled up over a ruling by a Muslim body for the Muslims?
Dont unnecessarily get involved and instigate.
Dont we all know that the overall custodian of Islamic matters is the royalty?
Cukup-lah you anti-BN folks.
Try concentrating on winning the two Bukits and the Batang.
That should be your priority - which brings Muslims and non-Muslims together against a common enemy.
Remain focused.
Dont get distracted.

However, this cannot be let go now because the actions and attitudes of some people exposes SEVERAL BIG ISSUES!
THE BIG ISSUES :
1. Unfortunately, some Malaysians assume that the 'young minds' of Malaysians are stupid and easily confused. Becareful what you wish for, because you are cursing the intellect of future Malaysians.
Such cynical and close-minded views tend to come true.
This is tantamount to parents scolding a child for being stupid and useless as the child grew up and then the child actually growing up to be so. Can't you teach and educate instead?
Isn't this a great opportunity to start a discussion and teach 'young minds' the difference on how Muslims and non-muslims use the word? I'm sure intelligent people will be fascinated by the etymology of the word 'Allah'.
Instead of trusting in the inherent God-given intelligence of a human being and nurturing that intelligence to be able to think properly, you choose to pass on hatred and ignorance? Or are you so egotistical and stubborn to admit your own small-minded ignorance?
2. These small-minded people are ignorant. The use of the world 'Allah' by non-muslims is popular and widely accepted without much complain ALL OVER the world! Just do a bit of research...ask around...Google it!
If this is really "popular culture mixed with religious liberalization" then by all means speak up about how 'Allah' is different to a Muslim as compared to how non-muslims use the word. But please, just please know that the word *can* and is used by all people especially by those who share the same belief in the same Abrahamic God as you do!
Know also this...you have NO RIGHT to restrict usage of the word "Allah".
The usage restrictions of the words “Solat”, “Kaabah” and “Baitullah”... I understand and agree with because I can't think of any non-muslim meaning for it.
But "Allah" is such a common word and means so much more than just in the Muslim sense! Can't we at least share the language?
3. The move to restrict the use of "Allah" by certain parties is politicised. This might be the most disturbing agenda behind such actions...It seems that religion is used to divide people or voters. It creates an US-vs-THEM mentality that is detrimental to national unity considering how sensitive religious can be.
People are especially sensitive to religious issues because it concerns their identity and something they hold sacred. Fair enough, but we must be aware and vigilant of certain parties using such issues to divide us and stir up our fiery emotions.
Anger and hatred muddles up the ability of the mind to think and reason properly. We must be vigilant of that.
So in conclusion, the true reason why non-muslims are fighting such restrictions is because it is unfair and uninformed. Another really good reason, i suspect, is to expose the prejudices, hatred and ignorance of Malaysians. Doing so promotes discussion.
Any debate and discussion about such issues, especially given its sensitivity, must be carried out in calm and cultured manner. Remember, we are actually all brothers and sisters...
What we *must* not do is regress into the old and tired excuse of not discussing sensitive issues just because it is sensitive! Those times are gone and it is obvious the past hush-hush practice of doing so 'behind closed doors' damages democracy.
Time to grow up Malaysia!

"...against non-Muslims for using 'Allah' to describe their God."
If you guys read the whole context, the ban on the word "Allah" is meant to be enforced only when it is used to refer to Jesus/GOD. So your arguments on banning the word from state anthems and whatnot is not the point since its original meaning should have meant the Malay Allah. Likewise goes for public announcements, school assemblies, etc.

Scenario 1
A person who is a non-Muslim should not sing the word "Allah" in the National or State anthem since he does not know the Islam God "Allah". Singing it will go against his conscious and his right.
Scenario 2
If he ever sing, he will definitely sing it to the other God he know - definitely not "Allah" since he is a non-Muslim. If a Muslim asks him who is he singing to and he reply that he sang to other God, not Allah.
In scenario 1, he should not need to sing the anthem at all since the Allah referred in the anthem is the Islam God who he does not need to subject to. Under the constitution law, he has the right to freely commit to the God he know/want - Jesus Christ to the Christian, Jehovah to the Jews, Siva to the Hindu, Buddha to the Buddhists. The Allah in the anthem is different from theirs so they do not need to sing or commit at all to the meaning of word "Allah" in the anthems. Forcing them to sing will cause far worst confusion to the non Muslims and actually go against their constitutional right. So it is better for non Muslims to keep dumb when the anthems are sung.
Scenario 2
So if we agree to Adzib Mohd's argument, then non Muslims should not allow to sing the word Allah at all in the anthems due to fear of confusion because in their heart and mind when they sing, they are referring to other Gods, not the Islam God. Muslims sing alongside with the non-Muslims will have the potential to be confused too. The children of Non-Muslims could also be confused by the word "Allah" they sing in the schools.
So in conclusion, if we agree to the argument by Adzib, then non-Muslims should not sing any anthem which contain the word "Allah" due to fear of confusion to the non-Muslims and Muslims.
Sigh........... What a fool to utter such a stupid argument!!!!!!!!!
Now you could see why in all over the world the exclusive right of using "Allah" was never an issue to be discussed, except in Malaysia when the BN government is trying to use this issue to confuse the Muslims and non Muslims, and subtly use it as propaganda - to be seen as the champion of Malays.

PEACE & ALL BLESSINGS TO YOU, Abang Mohd Adzib
I lived and worked in Indonesia for 3 years.
Followers of different religions there pray together publicly even though the majority are practising-Muslims.
It was a joy to participate at such social gatherings.
John Lennon or you might like to call him something like JOHAN LEMAN said,
"Imagine there's no Heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today
Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace
You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one"
