By Debra ChongIPOH, March 22 - Five shards of the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) erected democracy plaque here went on the auction block today. The highest bid stood at RM17,100.
A Johor based businessman who only wanted to be known as Lee collected the prized black marble inscription, widely seen to be a symbol of democracy for the ousted PR government.
But he told reporters he was only a proxy for "a friend."
He refused to divulge further details. But it is believed the new owner originates from the Perak royal town of Kuala Kangsar.
The auction was organised by the DAP and launched by Datuk Seri Nizar Jamaluddinn who maintains he is the lawful mentri besar of the state.
It was held under the shade of the rain tree at Persiaran Istana opposite the Perak state secretariat.
Bidding started from RM500.
The amount collected from the auction was almost RM43,000.
It will be used to build a "new greater more lasting monument" to democracy, said Nizar.

Every time a wrong move is done by non-PR parties or a non-neutral civil servant group, the PR supporters have a way of capitalising such situations.
And, I have no doubt that there was an air of festivity at this auction, where the Perakians of all ethnic groups bonded very well.
Come on BN - learn to be creative and do not stifle the wishes of people who love equal distribution of resources for the rakyat and last but not least fairplay in governance.
Still got room for you folks to come donw to reality and play by the rules, follow Constitution, respect the needs of all ethnic groups in the country and most important - be gentlemen all the way.
Remember - PR is not making life difficult for you guys in the states under your rule, except the usual check and balance rhetorics.
If they can leave you folks to run these states, why do you fellows kacau in the five states run by PR.
Drop your vengeance, do not manipulate using the MSMs, and carry on governing till the next elections.
No need to be ever stupid , wasting time conniving and making a fool of yourselves in the alternate media.

Use the RM43,000 for something better. Well, erecting a small monument under the same tree might be a good idea so the City Council won't use the same excuse that it's blocking the road!!! The bulk of the money should be used to help Perakians or activities that relate to the State. By doing this, it shows PR cares.

PKR is on the way reclaiming Perak. Stay on the course and surely you shall conquer and triumph.
Wish PKR a great success in the coming court case.

But perhaps just make an ordinary plaque and spend the rest on the needy.

The money will be a spirit and a support to PR, just do not waste it and fight against UMNo the goon.
Should UMNO hold such donation, I expect it will only collect 100RM, and yet 99Rm will go to people like Toyol or najis pocket.

I think "Foosh" (March 23, 2009) is really foolish to say the plaque is not even worth the stone it was inscribed on.
I am afraid some people would say your laughing about it shows your ignorance for you are laughing like an uneducated hyena, or some may even say, a "thug".
Actually, the plaque, or bits of it, may be worth quite a lot more than you think.
Take the Berlin Wall, it is only but concrete. It is selling for lots of money. It is the "symbollic" value that can be translated in monetary value.
In any case, some people made the bid for the Ipoh plague not for the monetary value of the concrete, it is because they feel very strongly that DEMOCRACY is being threatened and they value democracy. Unfortunately, there are people like Foosh who cannot see what more civilised people can. I hope he/they will change.
So Foosh, before you laugh and make silly comments, please think.

"Democracy " is priceless to us RAKYAT. The bidding shows how strong the support for Democracy..its no laughing matter. This will basically a pinch to the Barisan UMNO, rulling party.
In Perak, what (backdoor) rulling party does..is always OUTSMARTED by the PR. That was really funny..hahahaa.
Few that laugh over it, laugh over Democracy...They are typically true supporter of Racial Party.
