PUTRAJAYA , April 1 - In his final public address before his expected swearing in as prime minister on Friday, Datuk Seri Najib Razak gave a hopeful glimpse into his administration today when he said that the new thrust of his government will be One Malaysia, or 1Malaysia as it is also known.
1Malaysia, which Najib has mentioned several times the past few days, emphasises national unity and in his speech at the ceremony to disburse funds to Tamil schools today, Najib sounded remarkably like a reformer for race relations as well as a reconciliator.
He said that two things were key in the 1Malaysia concept - mutual respect and trust among the different races in Malaysia.
"Mutual respect is not just tolerance," he said.
"That is just the bare minimum. Mutual respect means you have embraced unity in diversity. And secondly, we must trust one another. But trust is not something gained overnight. But if done conciously over time, it will eventually happen.
"Once trust is developed, Malaysia will be the sum total of all races. We will not be moving as separate communities but as one Malaysia and we will be stronger. It will be a new Malaysia because we'll change our mindset because we trust and respect each other. I hope all will join me to bring Malaysia to greater heights."
The words will be warmly received by those advocating a united and less racially divided Malaysia but at the same time will be regarded among sceptics as mere hype similar to what they heard five years before.
Then, freshly installed prime minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi had promised to be the leader for all Malaysians, igniting hopes that a new era in race relations was at hand.
In the years following that promise, non-Malays became severely disappointed with Abdullah's ineffectiveness in reigning in the more right-wing voices within his party and decided to withdraw their support in the general elections last year.
And judging by the strident delegate speeches that characterised the recently concluded Umno party general assembly, Najib, which a Merdeka Centre survey says is coming into office with low public expectations, especially among the non-Malays, will face similar challenges in achieving his vision of 1Malaysia and winning back non-Malay support.
The son of the nation's second prime minister, however, says he is aware that the some parties expect him to act in an authoritarian manner and protested against being pre-judged before coming into office.
"Give me a chance. I will reform and I will make changes," he had told reporters in a press conference at the close of the Umno general assembly.
"I am aware that the people expect me to do certain things. Please judge me by my actions. My actions will come in due course."
He has made a few encouraging overtures following the Umno assembly.
He paid a visit to the nation's largest Chinese newspaper Sin Chew Daily and reached out to the Indian community by disbursing RM80 million in stimulus packages and other government funds for Tamil schools today and at the same time announced the approval of RM20 million in training funds for Indian youths.
Najib has denied that the disbursement of funds were timed to coincide with the by-elections.
"This is the actual giving out, but the announcement (of the allocations) was made much earlier even before we knew about the by-elections," said Najib.
Najib has also declined to disclose specifics about the implementation of 1Malaysia, asking the media to wait for Friday when he promises to reveal how it will be translated into programmes and policies as well as his vision for the economy, politics and the direction of the government.

So, we the rakyat need to trust the testimony of Altan’s cousin Burmaa in court, said that Altan showed her a photo of Altan, Razak Baginda and Najib Razak, or to trust Mr. Najib Razak who denial that he know that “Mongolian woman”?
We, the rakyat, need to trust the 1st SD of P.I. Bala, or his 2nd SD which made in a very suspicious condition and straight after that 2nd SD he and his family totally missing…?
We, Malaysian, need to trust the government of the day who constantly oppress the opposing free speech using the governmental machineries, but do not dare to clear their name in a fair and open court??
Dear Datuk Seri Najib Razak, in what ways do you want Malaysian to trust you…?
Now, it is not the problem of one race distrust the other race… now the problem is Malaysian, from all different races, are deeply doubting the integrity of the leadership of Najib Razak.
But, this Najib still want all Malaysian to believe in him and his “One Malaysia”, so, he mean One Malaysia under his dictatorship???

He was weaving keris threatening the Chinese that he wanted to wash his keris with Chinese blood.
His election campaign in the 2 Bukits are instigating animosity towards the Chinese and Indians.
His party's media - Utusan, Berita Harian and TV3 are only championing Malay's rights, making other races as 2nd class citizens.
And suddenly he wants a united Malaysia?!?!?!
He must be kidding! That's so funny!

The non-malays are continuously warned, intimidated, threatened, scolded, shouted at and coerced into accepting the 'social' contract. There is no compromise for dissent or views, so you can forget about 1 Malaysia.
The only time when we have 1 Malaysia is when there is a credible opposition to allow choice and where BN realise they need to stop their unfavourable comments and policies to non-malays. Please note I am not talking about NEP policy, this is accepted.
But freedom of religion - even having temple and churches, we need the approval (normally difficult to get. The use of Allah word is also not allowed, The Ketuanan Melayu is repeatedly encouraged and not reprimanded, The Sikh Temple bulbous structure is not allowed as it is for Mosque only, The Educated and Intelligent non-malays are not given places in university...
How do we achieve 1 Malaysia? Just by speeches... as i said only the Stupid Chinese and Indians will believe them. Aided by MIC and MCA - how stupid can the non-malays be if they were to listen to such speeches. The future of Malaysians lie with not only speeches but action. Action to contain the Ultra Malays like UMNO!

Can this dream be realised, when there are still people like Ismail who tends to raise up "pendatang issue"?
Can 1Malaysia become a reality, if umno still championing ketuanan melayu?
Firstly, umno, mca, mic and gerakan have to be united into 1 party, uphold equality to all races, then only 1Malaysia concept can be fullfilled
written by swipenter, April 02, 2009
We have had prime minister after prime minister calling for national unity but do otherwise in their action and deeds. We have this so called "social contract" and ketuanan concept that inherently divides, discriminates and foster disunity for more than 30 years resulting in deep polarisation along racial and religious lines and lately mumbling on class line due to huge income disparity.
How is Najib going to deal with this when the last Umno General Assembly called for the strengthening of the ketuanan concept and the unquestionable "social contract".
Here the majority are always claiming that the minority are threatening their very existence and the minority are threatened in return by the majority. It is laughable to claim that the minority can threaten the majority in this country when all the former wants is justice , fairness and equality. These are fundamental rights of every citizen in this country and not something special.
We shall see what kind of a new deal or new Malaysian order that Najib has in mind to realise his 1Malaysia concept. One thing for sure is that you cant foster unity and mutual respect with a big stick.

There has been only ONE Malaysia since 1957. I have not been able to find the SECOND Malaysia in world map unless he is in cloud nine. Is he another AAB who talk and talk but cannot deliver?
What BN/UMNO has done is divide and compartmentalized ONE Malaysia malaysian into many small compartments based on race, religion and others. Within the compartment, divided again into other sub compartment and further sub sub compartment. This has been going on for the last 30 years.
If the PM to be or not to be wants to talk about a truly ONE Malaysia Malaysian, how about getting rid of the walls that divide the many compartment. This is the test whether he is all talk and no substances.
Everybody can talk, so can Anwar- the other PM who is also in waiting, so is Hadi, another of the other PM who is also in waiting, so is Lim Kit Siang and his son.

Luther King, Jr said:
"I have a dream my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin by the content of their character."
"When evil men plot, good men must plan. When evil men burn and bomb, good men must build and bind. When evil men shout ugly words of hatred, good men must commit themselves to the glories of love..."
"Everybody can be great. Because anybody can serve...You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love."
"Sooner or later all the peoples of the world, without regard to the political systems under which they live, will have to discover a way to live together in peace..."
---
The incoming prime minister Najib says this to the Indian community:
"Once trust is developed, Malaysia will be the sum total of all races. We will not be moving as separate communities but as one Malaysia and we will be stronger. It will be a new Malaysia because we'll change our mindset because we trust and respect each other. I hope all will join me to bring Malaysia to greater heights."

A great speech, Najib.
But nothing new...
All prime ministers before you had made great speeches of dreams and unity.
Alas, all these just a dream.
Ground realities dictate a different reality...
Politically to strive and win elections,
Politicians will play to the sentiments of the moment.
You said this 1 Malaysia so succinctly,
But only when disbursing money to Tamil schools.
If you had tried to say this 1 Malaysia to Umno General Assembly,
You probabaly get lots of boos and jeers.
Malaysia is a very racist country.
We had asked overseas to come to our country to learn how to live peacefully.
But only externally we have learned to live side by side...
Like you say, mutual respect is not just tolerance.
But in Malaysia, non-Malays have learn to live with tolerance.
That's why we have racial harmony but lack social justice.
Malaysia needs a true Martin Luther King, Jr.
Not just spoken with words only.
But demonstrate the true principles of peace and justice for all.
That legacy of dream has come true...
In every school and institutition in America,
Bold letters are written, no racial prejudice against anyone.
Can Malaysia attain this reality?
Najib, you have asked me to give you a chance?
I will, but disbursing money to Tamil schools is not a start...
Visiting Sin Chew Daily is non starter.
Something more drastic and meaningful is demanded to move forward...
Can you remove one privilege and that others cannot have???
To buy a house, 7% discount to Bumiputra should be removed.
Instead 7% discount be given to anyone who deserves it irregards to race or religion.
If you can do that, you have earned my trust.
Like you say, trust my be gained and not given simply bcos of words without deeds.

You see, even if you have the best vision, direction or best talented leader but if you character is flawed or there is major question mark on integrity and honesty, people just will NOT buy into you (ie people just won't follow you). Clearly what you say will have no meaning even if it is the right thing. Usually people will forgive if a decision made out of honest error but not when it is a faulty character.

PR ? I say to my Chinese brothers and sisters that this man, NAJIB ! has been even just two months ago was a racist and has been a racist for all of his life, now comes out with a MALAYSIAN MALAYSIA, a slogan that was minted by Lim Kit Siang & Lee Kuan Yew as far back as the first Malaysian General elections in 1957. How sincere can Najib be ? or for that matter how sincere can UMNO be; given that even as we speak UMNO is still calling for the destruction of the politics of the opposition by epithets that are nothing short of SIDITIOUS ! Where is the response of a responsible government ? Where are the criminal prosecutions of those who have uttered sidition ? IS THIS TRUELY A DEMOCRATIC MALAYSIA ?
The solution to all the problems in Malaysia lies in electing a government of the Pakatan Rakyat so that a clean start can be had and democracy take and develop in the normal course. We have had 51 years of threats and broken promises for all of 51 years and we do not need to live by promises alone; we can take the common sense path, and strike out by returning a Pakatan Rakyat government. Do we not owe ourselves and our children a debt to look at what has been achieved in Pakatan Rakyat ruled states and to judge in our own selfish interests alone to say that what has been achieved by Pakatan Rakyat in such a short time has been outstanding ! I say that we owe it to ourselves and our children that we must break this vicious cycle and vote UMNO out of government and to give ourselves a chance to taste the sweetness of good governance.
It is indeed a sad comment to say that in all of post inddependant Malaysia, the politics of UMNO has been indeed one of total energy devoted to the achievement of communal division for the sole purpose of entrenching the dictatorship of UMNO and for no other purpose. The government and all the branches of government, the civil service are all geared to the protection of members of the government. There is no civil service that is national; but there is only government officers who identify with UMNO as the only government and that being their attitude, their performance in the crisis in Perak State demonstrate that government servants all see themselves as only loyal to UMNO as the only government.
As seen from the above perspective the UMNO government is incapable of any change. UMNO IS SEEN BY ALL GOVERNMENT SERVANTS AS THE ONLY GOVERNMENT. This is not a condition that will introduce change !

Put all the One Malaysia on a scale and make it balance, take out all the unjustice parts, unbalance part, let the head leader goes on rotation / term to administrate the Kerajaan, than only then we can say "One Malaysia, One Bangsa." in Malaysia.
If UmNo were to put aside all the Onself attitude in which I don't think they would (you can hear the voice from the recent Assmble of UmNo.) The change will not come, shall not happend can never exist.
What is One Malaysia, All races will have representative in the government, what post is refering to? The Kerja Raya or the 1st or 2nd prime Minister???????????????????? Very doubtful.................
Ah.. don't dream of it, this should had happend after acquired Independent from the British. Don' t Hope for the best, which will make sad later dear Malaysian.

One Malaysia? NajibMalaysia more like it or RosieMalaysia... before anyone even paint him as a reformer, lets see some concrete actions of a reformer first. Talk is cheap... especially when you can have people who are known racist in your own party holding exco positions, you cannot claim to want to reform.

Hence in retrospect, the 50th anniversary celebrations were even more a smokescreen for the massive ailments that plaque the nation. The nation handed the BN 50th anniversary rhetoric with a resounding
308 defeat in Peninsular Malaysia, and 2 subsequent by-elections.
Read, I suggest to Mustapha Ong, our foremost intellectual overseas, Azly Rahman, writing an article "Is Malaysia a Failed State", if we genuinely want to build not just a united Malaysia, but progressive at home and competitive internationally. Would you be able to just put this one article on the 1Malaysia site if we are interested and sincere on genuine dialogue?
Why don't we have such dialogue in the institutues of higher learning by repeal of the UCCA? Why don't
we unshackle the mainstream media, including Bernama, RTM, and let real dialogue reach a further wide audience? Why don't we remove repressive laws on the print media? Why do we harrass the bloggers and drag them to court ? Do you build a united Malaysia by relying one one almighty 1Malaysia
site, which will mesmerise everyone into benign subservience?
How would Ong justify his call for " Give him a chance to reform" when after more than 50 years of BN rule, Malaysia is beginning to show ominous signs of a "Failed State" ? Give BN chance for another 50 glorious and ignominous years ?
Yes, national unity must be forged on many fronts.
For starter, making the components of Malaysia, Peninsular Sabah and Sarawak, as one nation must surely feature prominently. What may one ask is the PM designate's policy on the position of Sabah and Sarawak in the federation; should there not be a review of the Malaysia agreement with a view to a more meaningful federal partnership? What of the state-federal sharing of natural resources? What is the national policy to rectify the glaring political and socio-economic injustice to the the indigenous peoples, especially of Sabah and Sarawak?
Convince us more, En. Mustapha Ong! We have hundreds of sites to engage ourselves in dialogue; and our national dialogue is indeed well advanced on dedicated Malaysian blogs. Welcome on board belatedly, 1Malaysia site.

Mustapa Ong is only sugar-coating his hard-selling for Najib.
Malaysians have been loyal to the country, the loyalty doesnt arise out of BN or UMNo or Najib or Mahathir. The loyalty is a natural virtue of Malaysians.
In fact, do you who is not loyal to the country? Mahathir! He threatened to migrate if Pak Lah continues to be the PM.
1-Malaysia has been existing for decades, it is UMNO and BN who started tearing her apart. It is UMNO and BN member that hinders her from coming together as 1.
NEP wont go away because of Najib; ISA wont be dismantled because of Najib; Corruption wont be eradicated because of Najib; Oppression of freedom of speech and expression will aggravate because of Najib (we have already witnessed it).
Mustapa Ong, sweet talk won't sell. Action is louder than words and you know what? our ears have been deafened by all those dirty tricks pulled off by UMNO.
written by siburp, April 02, 2009
He can start by making Hindraf, an MIC problem and not a national problem or issue. Pak Lah made a mistake by using ISA to quench HINDRAF leaders. He should have asked Samy Vellu to resolve it instead. HINDRAF is a HINDU and Indian problem. MIC who claims to represent all Indians in Malaysia must asked to sit down and resolve it, failing which MIC should be held accountable and its leaders must shoulder the problem.
He needs to review the system which has failed Tunku, Mahathir and then Pak Lah. For instance, Musa is complaining about the performance of some Bumiputra Contractors. Are they main Con, sub-con or sub sub con and so on? All Class D down to Class F must NOT be allowed to get the work done by subcontracting. Only Bumiputra Contractors who can actually do the work should be given a contract. Politics of patronage must be extinguished if Malaysians are to move forward and become competitive. In these bad times, those who are prepared to work must be rewarded.
Anyway good luck to him, for now he has nobody to blame but himself. He has his men in to control the UMNO Supreme Council and the system solidly behind him, he should be able to do anything. Hopefully he can at least put a stop to the perpetual political campaigning and get real work done for Malaysia.

There is no credibility left. What have Najib been doing in the Abdullah administration? Did he just realize now that Malaysia will be sum of all her races when we all unite? I learned that in Kindergarten that together we are strong, when apart we are weak. Hellooooooo! It does not take one to loose big in the election to wake up. A good political leader knows what the rakyat want and strive for it.
For now, I'll believe when I see it but don't ask that I give you a chance to govern first. We had enough of that. You may want to change but can your warlords accept your change? That is the biggest stumbling block for UMNO to change.
