KUALA LUMPUR, April 16 — Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has expressed disappointment that Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s Cabinet appointments include several “unsavoury characters.”
Writing in his blog today, Dr Mahathir said the inclusion of these “unsavoury” personalities had negated any desire to rid Umno of blatantly corrupt politicians.
Dr Mahathir’s remarks suggest his shadow will loom large over the new prime minister, just as it did over Tun Abdullah Badawi’s administration.Malaysia’s longest serving PM had quit Umno last year after falling out with Abdullah. He rejoined the party a day after Najib became PM in what appeared to be an endorsement of the new administration.
But Dr Mahathir, who has denied being offered any posts as advisor to Najib, had said he would continue criticising the Barisan Nasional (BN) administration if he felt the new prime minister made any mistakes.
True to his word, the former PM wrote in his blog today of his opinion that “several unsavoury characters who had been accused of being corrupt while in the previous government” had been included in Najib’s cabinet.
He did not name the ministers, but it is apparent Dr Mahathir was signalling to Najib his wish for ministers associated with Abdullah to be removed.
“The exclusion of Khairy Jamaluddin, the Umno Youth head who was found guilty of corruption by the Umno disciplinary committee, seems to indicate a desire on the part of the new prime minister to rid Umno of the blatantly corrupt politician.
“Unfortunately the inclusion of several unsavoury characters who had been accused of being corrupt while in the previous government, seem to negate this desire,” he wrote on his popular chedet.cc blog.
The administration, he said, should be aware it has less than three years to regain the support of the public.
He said Najib’s government had missed a good opportunity for regaining public backing for BN by “excluding dubious characters.”
Pressure from Dr Mahathir is the last thing Najib needs now as he is already facing problems on multiple fronts.
Najib’s 1Malaysia concept has come under fire amid some racial tensions stoked by a significant sector of the Malay ground who are unhappy with what they see as unreasonable demands from non-Malays.
He is also busy trying to quell a revolt in Terengganu against the BN mentri besar.
But his foremost challenge has been to try to turn around a softening economy.
He will now have to contend with criticisms from Dr Mahathir.
Dr Mahathir said that in his administration, ministers, their deputies and mentris besar were all required to declare their assets.
“But the declarations did not reveal much. Some ministers were queried by the then Anti-Corruption Agency but no charges could be made.
Still talks about corrupt mentris besar and chief ministers in particular were frequently heard.
No one was prepared to come forward to give evidence.
“In the end I had to simply drop the MBs whom I heard were corrupt. No charges were made against them as they would not stand up in a court of law,” he wrote.
What mattered, he claimed, was that the level of corruption during his time as PM was never high and did not hamper the implementation of government projects and did not result in abuses of ministerial power.
“I don't believe that corruption can be totally eradicated. But it can be minimised.
“From the complaints I hear today, corruption especially in the government party has reached record levels during the tenure of the last PM,” he claimed.

i think it will lead back to you. no?
to me, once its rotten, no matter how hard you try to paint, or put a new leadership if you do not get rid of the source i.e the corrupt goons. then, try all you can mate, the public perception of UMNO still will not change

Self praise is no praise.
Dr M praised himself - that is quite incredible.
Perhaps I can burst that bubble:
What about Rafidah whom you accused of abusing APs without your knowledge???
What about Muhammad Muhd Taib who carried millions of foreign currencies into Australia illegally and was caught and charged in court???? His way of escape: He told the court that he could not read English...And you knew he spoke very good English, been educated in our finest university - English educated - and you kept quiet.
Okay lah, I think two examples enough lah.

If Dr. M knows so much, why isn't he reporting these unsavory characters to the Anti-Corruption Agency? If Dr. M believes corruption has reached record levels relative to his time as PM, he should step forward and report these unsavory characters before it gets any worse.
As for Najib, since Dr. M has stated very clearly that there are several unsavory characters in your cabinet, shouldn't you act upon Dr. M's allegations? If you don't act upon it, then it becomes very clear to us, the rakyat, that there is really no change at all under your administration. There will continue to be the practice of double standards - one for non-UMNO and non-BN political leaders and another for UMNO and BN political leaders.

If Dr. M knows so much, why isn't he reporting these unsavory characters to the Anti-Corruption Agency? If Dr. M believes corruption has reached record levels relative to his time as PM, then for the love of the nation he should step forward and report these unsavory characters before it gets any worse.
As for Najib, since Dr. M has stated very clearly that there are several unsavory characters in your cabinet, shouldn't you act upon Dr. M's allegations? If you don't act upon it, then it becomes very clear to us, the rakyat, that there is really no change at all under your administration. All we can expect under your leadership is more corruption and more abuses of power. If you don't act on these allegations you can be assured that you will be the last PM from UMNO.

Lanun reproduce Lanun, how could it be otherwise ???
The Culture of corruption begin with massive privatisation of "Revenue Making Goverment Agency", these UMNO GLC (Not goverment GLC) scoop all resources of nation which breed a bunch of non-competence idiot still think they are smart and capacble if not because of monopoly.
Remember the MAS shares goverment force to buy back when it about to go bankkrupt after many years of losses during TDM times.
[ Untung masuk pocket, rugi rakyat tangung - hanya di Malaysia. ]
TM if not because of monoploy already bankrupt long overdue.
TNB if not becuase of monopoly also bankrupt long times ago.
Why TNB was force to purchase non relevant of standby IPP production ???
Who are behind all these IPP company ???
How could goverment properties / revenues being privatised without going for Open Tender ???
Who benefit in the process of privatisation of goverment property in name of effciciency. All turn out to be havoc of monopoly ??? exemple : PUSPAKOM , MAB , TNB etc....
Who else to be blame beside you , Tunr ???
Dear TDM , we Malaysian of 2009 don't need your advice any more, you have the Right to sound your opinion but sound it professionally as a stateman not generating "Conflict and Confusion" with political undertone for Najib adminstration. Dun try to divert attention of your past wrong-doing and weakness by attacking Najib which he has yet to be proven Incapable or Incompetent.
We, Rakyat will be the ultimate Judge for Najib not you alone, give Najib Six (6) months probation period as Malaysia CEO. We have given you 22 years but times and again you fail all of us including rampant corruption which many believe started during your times as PM.

He held us back with his policies that are all too reminiscent of singapore's policies in the 80s and 70s. Not too forget the AA. The 80s were the asian era, we could have been one of the asian tigers...please do not give him too much credit. Alot of the problems badawi and najib faced or is facing today is just a culmination of his administration. He was a strong leader who brought us into the 90's but he wasnt a very good or effective leader.

From observation, he spoilt and cause more damages. See what he has done to TAAB that effected the progress of Malaysia. Of course everyone knew, the real and actual motive is, to push his son up the ladder.
Cannot have too many spokeperson acting on behalf especially talking about sensitive issue.
There must be some filtering first. Choose right and capable candidates that will not talk rubbish or something out of topic. There should be a set common goal.
But most importantly and foremost, cannot afford to allow someone who voice against the leader. Leader has the right to his own plan which maybe unknown to others, including old man. Therefore, still pre-mature to judge the new leadership and should be given time and space first. If his performance below expectation, rakyat will judge and not old man. Remember the KPI. He has done something right and should be allow to progress for there.
Old man should not simply open the mouth and give wrong impression to rakyat. The new leader infact, is the chosen one but poor old man came-in from backdoor.

Tun, if you dun wanna walk away gracefully when you are on top, then ask Najis to get your a role. Better still, work with KTK to manage the cabinet's KPI. That'll great, right?

I notice that some of you are unjustly slamming our great leader, Tun Dr M. It is indeed pathetic and very "ungateful" to criticise such a great stateman.
Let the man speak his words. Over the last 4 decades, this great man has bring down 3 Malaysian Prime Ministers. as you may recall from the history, this man had bring down the "Bapa merdeka" Tunku Abdul Rahman, with his historic letter and the legendary 'Malay delimma". Tunku bowed down by this "young turk" then. Our "Bapa Perpaduan", Tun Hussien Onn was another victim of circumstance. He was forced for an eraly retirement by the three muskateers, namely, Tun Dr M, Musa hitam and ku li. The recent one, "Bapa ...????"(may be we should call him Bapa GLasnost & Prestorika Malaysia) , Tun Abddullah, was ousted by the great edlderly statement of Malaysia )who else), through his unrelentless comment on the former's policy. Now, come another victom in the new PM. SO, would Tun Dr M can make another record of plotting down a fourth PM?..well, we should give him chance to break his own record.....
written by chin, April 17, 2009
Then again, he may not mean what he said. Like all those others PMs.
2020. PM for all ? One Malaysia ? PMs these days are all about marketing jargon. We are the only country in the world that employs PR men to take care of the economy.

Anyone who gets in Tuun Mahaha and his son Mouldkriz's way is corrupted.
Najib is known to be corrupted, Muhyiddin is also known to be corrupted, they both carry heavy scandalous baggage. Why not Mahathir reprimand them? Why not? Simple, cos Mahathir needs them.
Only those who obstruct Mahathir will be labelled corrupted.
Once all those whom he called corrupted are removed from his path, Tuun Mahaha and his son will be the most corrupted.
Mahathir you make people really really really sick.
