JOHOR BARU, April 26 – The government is looking at doing away with the system of Approved Permits for the import of vehicles, Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry Datuk Mukhriz said here today.
The latest rethink on the controversial permits may have been prompted by a request from the Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Car Dealers and Credit Companies Association to open up the AP scheme to everyone, or set aside 30% for Bumiputras and sell the rest by open auction.
Mukhriz stressed that the main consideration of the review would be that “any levy or tax should benefit the Government, and cost savings, if any, should go to the people.”
While the ministry was giving high priority to finding a solution to the long-standing issue, abolition of APs was not the only option on the table as there were many other ways to solve the problems, Mukhriz told reporters after launching the Bumiputra Entrepreneurs Symposium held in conjunction with the Unit Trust Week here on Sunday.
Mukhriz gave his assurance that the ministry would come up with a solution that would be amenable to all parties.
“The AP issue is high on the ministry’s agenda of deliberations to come up with a new mechanism ... give us a bit more time before the minister makes a final decision.
“With the Cabinet approval, he will make the announcement,” he. – Bernama

If you are serious, just abolish it!
If you are serious, declare it non-essential, simple as that. Don't come out with statements that give false hope for people.
I can confidently say that the abolishment of AP's won't happen.
Why?
Do away with the AP's and you will see all the Proton distributors closing shop.
And in Malaysia where we have a "unique" system (after all where in the world does one find losers sitting on some Supreme Council), what is the suffering of the people compared to the suffering of a few Proton distributors.
So Malaysian Motorists, continue paying through your nose for your favourite non-proton cars.

Only a SELECT FEW, have access to them, and on THEIR DEMAND or through CONNECTIONS.
Who are those select few? How many of them? Why are they given? Why are they preferred? What have they done to deserve the APs, and why not others? What,Why, How,When,Which...there are so many questions that we ordinary, poor citizens, want to know.
The recycled APs were much talked about for some time. Who are behind them? Why were they not prosecuted or charged?
How much do they get for each AP? Those who have access to them got very, very, very filthily RICH!
The rakyat buy certain things which were brought in by using APS. So, indirectly we are also paying to the AP holders! So, they also got rich through making us pay. What are all these?
When is the government putting a stop to such abuse and unacceptable practices?

Talk is cheap and UMNO-BN government has said many things, from taxi permits to APs but so far there is nothing to show. We want to see genuine reforms not rhetoric. Pease don’t for a minute think you can say populist things to truncate the aspiration of the people. We the people have no good opinion of politicians in general including your father. Malaysians politicians are mainly scoundrels. They enjoy good life but give nothing to the country. They contribute my foot.

Those who have access to them are very, very, very filthily RICH!
After he talked on this issue, those AP holders will ask him 'HOW MUCH??? The issue wil go silent again.... until the cow come home. For him is a smart move to create wealth but is a old method!
The energy minister should also talk about reducing our petrol and electicity price since the world oil price is droping.

>>Elok sangat dimansuhkan.

Please give details lah.
Review and implement new system.
Benefit the Government - aiyahh, APs also benefit what???
Cost saving go to the people - how lah???
You mean imported cars will be cheaper ahhh???
This is a good one, if you want us to believe lah...
The reason for APs, so that imported car is pricey in order to sell national cars.
Another reason is to help a few Malays to make lots of money.
Rafidah called them Towering Malays - thru APs system.
It is funny you called this system "controversial."
Think again, this APs system could be introduced by Mahathir lah.
Now you have the power lah...
Just change the name lah - AP ke or MP ke, whatever.
A rose is still a rose, if you know what I mean...
And someone is going to be very rich Ho Ho HO!!!
Everything a new system is introduced,
SOMEBODY is going to be very VERY filthy RICH.
And that person could be YOUUUUU, Yu Hoooo!!!!
Not check and balance - that is the problem if our Umno government policies.
Remember Rafidah abused the system,
Mahathir got the cheek to say Rafidah did all those things without his knowledge.
What??? Prime Minister did not know what is happening to our country.
He should be sacked in the first place.
Right??? You agree???

yes i agree he has some other alternative plan in place to replace the AP system which he and his cronies will benefit from.
but the economic climate being what it is and the advent of fuel cell hybrid cars will make it a slow but inevitable fact that the global auto industry is undergoing change.
last but not least its also politicking- after all our ex-MITI minister got most APs in the country, not him so why not? a bonus reason for abolishing, as well as hoping public dumb enough to believe he's doing this coz its the right thing to do.
besides they already milked this cow to death so time to find another lah. maybe samy! now that, i don't mind at all!!!
