IPOH, May 8 — A day after the chaos that engulfed the Perak state assembly, the weariness of ordinary people here towards politics is palpable.
In coffee-shops, warungs and restaurants, the one common ground holding together the man on the street is the fact that most of them are disillusioned and just want everything to be back to normal.
Most people appear to be sympathetic towards what happened to Speaker A. Sivakumar and felt the manner in which Barisan Nasional (BN) took power has left a bad taste in the mouth.
But still, many felt the problem has been dragged on for far too long and would like the politicians to look into more urgent issues rather than argue among themselves for individual and party interests.
Many are feeling neglected and are willing to face an election rather than wait for another three years of uncertainty.
Mohd Shirin Adnan, a local businessman, told The Malaysian Insider that he did not agree with what happened in the state assembly yesterday. He believes that what happened was not democratic and that the assembly should have followed the proper procedures and respected the constitution.
“Their actions affects the people, not only in the assembly but also the outside. We must not act like children. What happened in Perak was an embarrassment not only to Malaysia but the whole world. This is not our culture, if you are not happy then wait for the next general election. The politicians must always choose the best way in handling any problems. The rakyat are now smart and not like last time,” Mohd Shirin said.
Another Ipoh resident who only wanted to give his name as Shahir, whose office is located near the state assembly complex, was disappointed with what happened because it affected the people. He said that the politicians were too emotional and could only think about power.
“I am not expert in politics but I do not like it when the problem starts to involve ordinary people.
“What happened to Sivakumar was too harsh. It was not fair. They shouldn’t have acted like that and made the Sultan wait for five hours. They were very immature and disrespectful to the Sultan.
“I do not care who become MB as long as I have a job. What happened with the three assemblymen was PKR’s fault. They do not know how choose candidates with principles. We just have to wait for the next general election,” Shahir said.
Chong Chuan Fin, who has lived in Ipoh for 50 years, fears for the future generation because he feels that the current political deadlock is bringing the state backwards.
“People are wise enough to know what they want but what happened to the speaker was very unfair. I am very disappointed. They were uncivilised.
“They just argue but what do we get from it? I hope the situation won’t end up like Thailand. I don’t think Perak people are angry but sad. What can we say? There is no development, everything has already stopped. Maybe we have to wait for 3 years before anything happens.
“We respect the Sultan but there are two MBs and now two speakers? There are now two governments in Perak. The Rakyat is disappointed with this government and what they have done. If BN were patient and did everything correctly then there would be no argument,” Chong explained.
Ponusamy, who owns a food stall, has grown tired and would like to see stability brought back to the state.
“They are all the same, we just want peace and tranquility. I don’t care who is the government because I still have to wake up every morning, wash my face and go to work. I just want stability,” Ponusamy said.
Zaitun, a housewife, felt that what happened in the assembly was crazy and would like everybody to accept the Sultan’s decision.
“We want peace in Perak, we are not free because of them. We are facing the burden because they do not want to accept reality. Just wait for the next election and vote but for now just listen and not create havoc. They are all acting like they are crazy for power,” Zaitun said.

Why didnt they interview me & my other fellow Ipohans. Should interview more of intellect & professional of what they think ...c'mon lah they are more informed of the political scenerio.
This UMNO is trully power hungry as testament of thier drastic back door force take over & without following rules & regulation ..going proper manner, such Confidence Vote then Sultan MB pick. Thier power hunger also justified by thier rush to have assembly sitting b4 Court decision, resulting chaos.
showing thier Power with abusing the Nation Security.

While these seem to be admirable things to want (who wouldn't?), they fail to grasp that unless you fight for your civil rights every day, those in power will slowly but surely take them - as has happened to Malaysians. You people are too passive about your civic duties and civil rights.
Freedom is not free.
How can you have a conducive business environment without someone fighting for your right to keep the money you have earned? How can you live a peaceful life without someone having made sure that the police won't arrest you for speaking your mind? How can you 'get on with your life' if you live in a police state? How can you make sure your children are educated properly if the government won't listen to your demands on what they should learn or how?
The comment about how Mr Shahir doesn't care what politicians do so long as the 'problems' don't affect the people is the most naive statement I've come across in a long time. If that represents a large portion of the Malaysian public then you are doomed. How can politics NOT affect the people??? Everything they do affects you in some way. Perhaps it's not his fault he's ignorant of how politics affects his life, afterall, you have all been under Mahathir's thumb for so long.
The most inspiring thing is the waking up of Malaysians to the power they wield with their vote.
If BN can't or won't respect your decisions, make them. Force them. Fight for them. There is no other way.
Bullies never change unless they are made to change. They won't change themselves for nobody.
But first, you HAVE to enlighten your fellow citizens to their rights and be prepared to fight for them, no matter how insignificant they may seem. How insidiously they are taken away that you won't notice till they are gone.

What has the UMNO done yesterday with police backup is a total act of changing malaysia to UMNO state.
The Sultan of Perak still very much in the mood that UMNO should rule Perak, but majority of rakyat detest UMNO.
We must send UMNO to hell, there is no other way.
Do not tell me all of you out there would like someone to rob your house?

Stopping now is not a sign of surrender. There are priorities. The priority now is to restore order; although we're all damn angry with BN's attitude, let's not forget about the people of Perak who need to feed their families, and need development.

2 things have resulted from the recent fiasco
a) BN has no more place on Perak; they are hanging for as long as they can use 'respect for royal family'
excuse, and bend the arms of the legal infrastructure by pitching them against the 'sultanage' of this country. I hope the law remains law - and no one is above the law; not sultans, not PM, not MB, not police.
b) we are totally disgusted with BN, not only they arrogantly flaunt their corruption in the face of the rakyat; not only do they blatantly challenge anyone who dares oppose; not only do they use the police to remove opposition; they are back for more - of the state's coffers.
It may be 3 yrs;
we hope 3 days; but it may be 3 months
We even hope the sultan has the humility to admit mistake
and rectify the situation - somehow I don't feel this in my guts
Perakians
don't ever forget this episode of theft, robbery and arrogance
don't be intimidated, it is afterall our state, our lives and future
let not anyone find reasons and faults in how we will handle the situation
always in peace
violence begets violence
if we have to wait 3 yrs , so be it
3 yrs is all they will get
unite and ensure the future of Perak is properly managed
take time and effort to inform (the ill informed)
reason and win all over
so that we eradicate this illness completely
I, a Perakian, will be there for Perak

Hence, as they grow up they also could not diffrentiate the Right and the Wrong.
This is what happen in Malaysia in general and in Perak particulary.
Olden days when we were canned by the school teachers, we were so scare if our parents come to know about it because it is most likely we will be canned again by our parents. I was asked to kneel down for the unintention mistake or wrong doing when my parents caught me. Dinner will be forfeited if my dad is not satisfy with the punishment, no one dare to help because anyone trying to help me will end up be punished. This was the training I undergone.
But nowadays , parents would confront the parent with parang when their childrens were cannned ... see the difference, their childrens who has being 'Manja" since childhood will do all the nonsense like our politicans esp BN politicans , the Mat Rempit , Bohsia, Buang anak etc .... because to them whatever they do they deem is right without thinking the consequence and side effect , this excatly the end-result of kiosk and havoc in Perak.

Perakians are tired of politics.
Very few went out on the streets to protest.
Very few wore blacks to show 1BlackMalaysia.
But don't mis-judge lah...
Malaysians are gentle and not like Thais.
One thing for sure they know what to do...
Talk to the people on the streets,
One thing clearest in their minds when they shared openly.
They are waiting for the next general election.
Perhaps we should not made to wait for another 3 years...
3 years too long lah, people are running out of patient.
The best solution:
2 Mentri Besar - they should sit down on a round table and talk...
I suggest they both go and meet the sultan,
they should agree that fresh polls is the only answer to all this deadlock.
This way the sultan will save his face,
and the sultan will agree to new polls.
If NIzar and Zambry really care about Perak,
then let the people decide lah...so easy why so difficult.
Don't pressurise the sultan to dissolve the assembly...
both parties must first agree lah.
Nizar go alone to request for dissolution...
The sultan cannot agree, too much at stake.
Some say it has to do with Gamuda - that part I don't understand..
It has to do with his daughter or something.
But give the sultan the assurance, there is no backlash...
Zambry must go with Nizar - Bn and PR - then no backlash for sure.
Okay, now go together and meet the sultan.
He will surely agree.
Unbelievable? Believe it.

you can make both of them sit at tringular, round and shape in the world..but when you got a UMNO member sitting infront of you, it's just talking to the wall..no brainer!!

TIRED OF POLITICS ?!!!! Better go and stay in the South Pole all by yourselves !!
People of Perak and the REST OF MALAYSIA , WISE UP !!
You CAN'T have ANYTHING WITHOUT fighting AND SACRIFICING for it. Everything that you NOW HAVE will be taken away, if Malaysian has NO stamina to continue the struggle for a JUST and FREE Malaysia !
We will become A POLICE STATE - if we are not careful ! What is there to stop them(Police) from entering PARLIAMENT now ? A PRECEDENT has been set. Police report against the POLICE ?
This is just a FORETASTE of what is coming ! Mark my words....
ZAID WAS RIGHT ! Najib should NOT have been made a PM.....

yet, we must remember this- if we truly want things to change, we must find the strength to carry on our quest for change and improvement in malaysia.
we must fight fire with fire. and against the vile tactics of the ultimate politicos of UMNO and BN, we must fight politics with politics. because this is what these people excel in- politics. everyting they do is politics., from denying perakians their democratic rights to the years of economic sanctions imposed on kelantan and terrengganu before it went to BN, to the years of financial, legal and financial shenanigans, everything is politics to them.
that is why after over 50 years of independence, for example, we still can't hammer out a progressive and dynamic educational system and our hospitals and public services are so out of balance. it is all politics and we are continuing to pay the price- literally!
and unless we beat these politicians at their own game, things will only get from bad to worse. how many more murders and PKFZs and police brutality cases can we continue to afford?
stay the course, malaysia!

The so called " PR ", please give back the peach to the people of Perak.
308 you won the election, so BN gave way for you to form the Govt. even thought you are only securing a 3 seats majority. Believe it, just 3 seats yet it's still majority. Happily you ruled for almost a year.
Then goes your spiritual head, power crazy Anwar, going all out, trying to topple the BN Central Govt. with a tactic he used years back in Sabah, toppling the PBS. He gave all the dates, and the most seriou of all is 916. Just imagine, he's trying to buy over 3 but multiple of 11, a total of 33.
God is great, he failed, or else Malaysia will be in the worse situation in the world.
So with that and the quality, sense of belonging of their representatives and their leaders own doing, ( thinking that they are great and over joyed with victory ) 3 went off to declare indepadents and supported the BN. Only then, they waited up by then it's a bit too late.
Knowing that they had lost the 3 seats majority, looked up for the Sultan's help to declare re-election.
But the Sultan rejected so that's goes the BM's and the State Cabinets. After interviewing the 3 indepadents and all the BN YBs, the Sultan then made Zambly the Mentri Besar.
To those in the PR, please take it. After making some noises and protests, it's high time to accept it and return peace and order to Perak. Learn from this expensive lesson in Perak and let the state enjoy the prosperity and peace that follow. A mistake is a mistake, take it and learn from it.
Give back the peaceful demoncracy Malaysia enjoy, and your act and reaction is NOT a Malaysian culture.

drain by their indifferent attitude. The right government with fairnest and justice will benefit everyone.
The wrong government will put in place people who blatantly disregarding the law and do as they like
while we ordinary citizen are asked to abide by the law.
It can clearly be seen in this episode that there are two sets of law. One for Barisan that they can do anything they like when they can't get their way.
The blatant abuse of every institution for their benefits is for all to see. How can we ordinary citizen
be ignorant and not voice our concerns?
After 50 years of rule what has BN done to benefit ordinary people? Is is not that the new Pakatan
government that bring changes and accountability to the people?
Ignore politics at your own peril.

A new strategy is required, one which will not inconvenience the ordinary folk. PKR should use its time to weed out the disruptive Hee's and other old style politicos only looking for power and self interests, induct the many Malay, Chinese and Indian professionals and respected members of civil society with values, and quietly work the constituencies from now to promote their platform of a clean and fair government for all.
PKR did not WIN the 5 States and parliamentary seats. Barisan, with its arrogance and rampant cronyism LOST the States and seats. PKR only benefitted as it was the lightning rod for the perrenially disgruntled and became a fortunate bystander who benefitted from the fall-out. THAT certainly is not the basis for national governance.
Now it has to work patiently to earn the right, together its more established partners like PAS and the DAP who have built a solid support base by patiently promoting its principled policies, and show, on its own merits, that it can govern and has the right people to do so. Caucus with your partners, iron out differences, learn from doing things the proven PAS/DAP way, build discipline, create a government in waiting, attend opposition conferences overseas to learn, school your future YBs to become experts on issues they will be spokespersons for, school your current YBs so that the can stand toe to toe in Parliament exposing weaknesses etc on government policies, and build confidence. So identify your YBs to be now, fashion a politial platform that can deliver and work the constituencies.

(shakes head).
Going by this logic, let's assume a burglar enter Puan Zaitun's house. The policeman on duty refuses to take any action because the burglar is his relative. The burglar then demands that Puan Zaitun hands over her valuables. Would Puan Zaitun just meekly accept her fate without any protests?

I wonder how much $$$ had been used to utilize all those police, army, FRU personnels for these last few days? Hope they are not too much! Who are paying the bills and the overtime? Not my tax money, I hope!!
