UPDATED
By Neville SpykermanPUTRAJAYA, May 14 — Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad today admitted the Pakatan Rakyat will sweep Perak if fresh elections are called but recommended the state assembly meets to decide on the mentri besar post.
"It’s not good for the world to see the musical chairs in Perak where the MB is changing because of the decision of the courts," Dr Mahathir said.
When asked if the current impasse in Perak would affect the ruling Barisan Nasional's chances in the next elections, he said: "I hope people will have short memories."
“The outcome is a foregone conclusion” said Dr Mahathir if fresh elections are held, adding that it was his feeling after the by-election in Bukit Gantang and from talking to people.
“So why should we have fresh elections ?“ he asked, saying that it was costly and that he did not agreed will calls by other BN leaders for fresh state elections.
He added that the people had already voted and chosen people who are willing to defect.
He said the situation should be resolved by a vote in the Perak state assembly and the assemblymen should determined who should form the government.
“If BN really has a majority they can move a motion of no confidence and set up another government.”
The former prime minister said he would hold his opinion on whether V. Sivakumar was legitimately removed as speaker in deference to the courts.
He also refused to comment if the debacle in Perak would have a lasting negative impact on Barisan Nasional and affect the outcome in the next general election.
Dr Mahathir added that he supported the move by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to hold negotiations with Pakatan to resolve the crisis.
He said anything which can resolve the problem is good.
Dr Mahathir was speaking to the Press today after a special talk on “Malaysia-Today’s Knowledge Economy”.
During the talk, he said the future can be determined by trends and no crystal ball was needed to predict the future.
However, he refused to answer when asked if he was positive about the future of BN and Umno based on current trends.
“I beg not to reply to that question. It’s just my private opinion and I’ll keep it to myself.

This time many won't. I have never voted for BN; hence, I will not put words in my fellow Perakians' mouths of how you think. However, the power grab is not a trivial matter that people can forget easily. PR will put up posters with the Speaker being dragged out of assembly to remind people.

This time round, I think our eyes are now opened. We will not forget so easily, especially since his fiasco is so shocking to the psyche!
No matter what BN does now with regards to Perak, it will be viewed with skepticism.
That is the price it will have to pay for trying to usurp the Rakyat's power.

While most if not all UMNO and BN leaders are thicking their faces to justify their illegal, unconstitutional, and undemocratic actions, this so called statesman shamed all of them outright.
However, knowing that the people are right, he does not admit fault of the UMNO+exDPM/PM+Zambie, he did not agree to return the right to choose back to the people in Perak -- typical big bully mentality.
What a SHAMEFUL bunch of corrupt politicians Malaysia has.

With Mahathir back in BN, and with many perceiving him to have a very big hand in decisions made now, I truly believe that BN will only get worse as far as pulling wool over the voters eyes is concerned. They will make full use of all the media organisations available to them, almost all major Dailies and TV Stations, as well as the BN-friendly bloggers and internet news portals to truly vilify Pakatan Rakyat and assume credit for all the good deeds that Perakians believe Pakatan Rakyat did over the 10 months it was in power.
This will be very difficult for Pakatan to counter, due to the limited avenues they have to reach out to the public and especially the voters of Perak. Besides this, recent events have shown how much control the BN leadership has over the judiciary, election commission as well as the police. All these bodies will be made full-use of by a Mahathir-inspired BN to bring Pakatan down, at whatever cost.
I do believe that Pakatan has its work cut-out even if His Majesty Sultan Azlan or Raja Nazrin heed the calls of the rakyat for a fresh State Election to be held in Perak.

"BN is not afraid. We have to face the rakyat and we will face the rakyat. We have faced the rakyat many times," he said.
Of course it is easier to win in the state assembly with all the evil parties under control than in the state election where it is Rakyat's power. You think PR is so so so stupid. Go. Go. Go. State Election Now

Why still trying to hide the facts, you(sorry not only you but the whole world) knew majority Perakian support Pakatan and YB Nizar?
In your statement, you admited the facts, but then trying to use another method to cover-up. What is this, What the point and What a rediculous statement? Are you are saying that Be-End painted wrong picture when having an audience with Sultan. Informing the majority of lawmakers support but avoid telling of rakyat wishes. This is not absoletely not sincere. It seems like there is no meaning to the oath they took previously.
If majority Perakian does not supports and stand at Be-End side, do you think, Be-End appointed MB can bring progress to Perak. FYI many people, professional and etc.. already gave much thought to this issue and only way out is new by-election.

Malaysians have awoken, risen and judged you and your ilk. You have been found short, very very short, of the mark.
I am impressed by the speed at which Malaysians have matured politically - they can see the woods for the trees - it's you old-fashioned politicos who are behaving like ostriches. You are on the way out, and good riddance.

The vote of confidence is on this 3 representatives. They are the currently causing the impasse in Perak, not the MB post.
If the vote is in the Assembly, it does not solve the crisis that is happening. Hatred beget hatred will still continue and BN will suffer in the long term. As is, which BN specially UNMO have admitted, the support from the other races have drop. How far do they want it to go. Is it really worth it.
written by mytwo cents worth, May 14, 2009
If it is clear that the rakyat have asked to vote and the powers that be keep refusing because they know they'll lose, that's not tactics, it's sheer stupidity. Tactics is when you time a scheduled election to favour you. What we may forget is the increase in petrol pricing announced to coincide with the Perak issues. That sinks like a stone because it's somewhere in the future and will only grab our attention when we have time to digest it. At the rate things are going, we will be distracted until September and suddenly BANG, we'll have a petrol price increase and the govt can say we were told ages ago and no one complained. sweet. We may balso forget the PKFZ scandal, and happily Eli isn't very newsworthy any more and probably, they seem to be losing their appatite for bye elections anyway.
To pass the buck to the Sultan is very sneaky. Presumably he can't independently make the decision as he's 'got no power' to do so. And they will certainly make sure that Nizar isn't able to go and ask him.

3. Can we trust with what TDM has prediction?
4. One things to bare in mind that sentiment among malay in Perak should be take concern. Belief me, UMNO and TDM will use this tactic and tell the malay. "If you vote for PAS or PKR that means you will vote for DAP".
5. For me battle in the poll is very difficult to predict. Let the people of Perak to determine which one they want.

Dr M must be thinking that he can broker a deal in Perak. Sorry Tun, tak laku lah cadangan tu.
The mandate rests with the PEOPLE, and only the people can decide.
After March 8 2008 + 5 by-elections later, BN must have chickened out or lost its way.
They have to resort to power grab, behind the door dealing and wheeling, played racial cards, abuse the security forces and collude with government staff and whatnot to force and bulldoze their ways to the corridors of power. What a shame.
Time for a change of leadership with the people determining them through the ballot box.

2. What is the status of the "under the tree" assembly. If valid, Zambry and 6 exco have to go out of the assembly together with the 3 frogs( Iagree with Tun when he said don't take in representative who are corrupted to support BN).
3. Is the May 7th sitting valid? if the above is 1/2 valid.
Tun too many confusing event has taken place. Najib did not calculate his risk when taking over Perak. Now how to repair the damage. Only one way - dissolve and let the rakyat decide. Even BN perform badly, its for BN to show that come GE 13 , BN is the people choice. This is the best method of problem solving. Any other ways will not settle the Perak issue. Even by force or whatever method BN use to govern the state - issue will be croping up till the next GE 13 which will eventually hit BN not only in Perak the after effect into other states too.- the risk to too high to gamble.

No, Sir, we beg to differ! ( NO DERHAKA here, though!)
People of Perak DID NOT choose people who were willing to defect.
The elected reps who later metamorphosized into frogs did that when they were NO LONGER WANTED by their original political parties which were the real entities that the people had voted for.
IT WAS THE POLITICAL PARTIES THAT MATTERED, Dr M. Not those who were willing to defect for their own selfish interests and when they did something wrong and abandoned ship!
These were the same ones who were willing to trade their morality and integrity ( if they have any ) for BN's enticements, best known only to themselves.

if Zambry were to call for re-election, that will the best smartest BN move. that will sure minimize their damage done, at least there is still hope on PRU 13 if BN do good within this 2-3 years.

In te assembly, the Speaker is king. He gives order and it must e followed. The sergeant at arms must be relieve of his duty of he cannot respect the speaker. The assembly secretary has to answer to the speaker to.
No one must attempt to usurp the Speakers's authority. There are procedures to follow. Can UMNO follow procedure?

I recall that only Karpal Singh voiced his outrage over Anwar's strategy. The senior Lim and the junior Lim and the other DAP stalwarts (Tian Chua, Tony Pua and Jeff Ooi among others) were either supportive of Anwar's strategy (which was morally ambiguous and not based on principle).
Now Anwar, the Lims etc are crying foul. When you back a wounded tiger into a corner and go for blood, what do you expect? Sweetness and light?

Most of the people feel it is unfair if there is no by-election. If BN feels that they have the support of the people then they should agreed to a by-election, why are they holding it back. It makes us feel that they are afraid of it. The 3 frogs are immediately booted out in a by election.
They know it in their heart that they may loss terribly. that is way they prefer to go to court. Should they win in court they will loss the respect from the people and their dignity will be down to the drain. It also tarnished the future of all the BN component parties.
The longer they cling on to power it create more resentment / not trustworthy / bad image etc by the people. and it will be more difficult for them to climb up again.
Best way to solve the problem is a by election and you are caring enough for the people, dissolve the assembly and let the people choose their government.

This is my 2 cents worth. The rakyat funds every single cent of the government kitty. This includes paying the salary of all civil servants which includes police, judges etc, not forgetting gaji and also the perks of what the menteris are enjoying. I think it's time to let the Malaysian "funders" have their say.

So Sultan of Perak, even UMNO admits that the people of Perak wants the opposition to run the state. Will you act on behalf of the people or for the sake of UMNO feeding you with tax payers money so that you and your family can go on holiday?

Mahathir's version of democracy: Let the 0.0001% decide. .after all U, the 100% choose kataks to represent u and see..now he / she has defected (to avoid corruption charges / to enrich the bank account)... so whose fault is it?
To this statement:
However, he refused to answer when asked if he was positive about the future of BN and Umno based on current trends.
“I beg not to reply to that question. It’s just my private opinion and I’ll keep it to myself.
People's verdict: GE13 . Bye Bye 0.0001%. You're history. We decide!...and we will have the last laugh!
He knows the answer to that question. That's why the "apa nama?...no comment lah" statement.
When asked if the current impasse in Perak would affect the ruling Barisan Nasional's chances in the next elections, he said: "I hope people will have short memories."
My verdict: Only if all Malaysians were to be infected with mad cow disease .... BN is sure to take the lead role in the TV series 'Six feet under' - dead and buried!
... and by the way, I HAD (and I stress HAD) great respect for this man during the time he made sense in his handling of the '97 crisis.
That was yesterday, tomorrow is a new day ... having said that, the stamina on my memory has lasted 2 GEs so far ....

Knowing that the people of Perak wants and demands a by-election in order that they can choose their own representatives, Mahathir does not want a by-election for Perak just because he knows that BN will not win. For BN, it's always the party's interest before the interest of the people.
This is what his previous reign as Prime Minister is all about! If BN cannot win, then, damn the will of the people...who cares??? Who cares what the people wants......who cares what they demands.....as long as BN cannot win, there shall be no elections/by-elections! He is only looking after the interest of the party and not the interest of the people. Look at what he had done to UMNO itself! Installing a system whereby there could be no credible challengers to his position......and, what happened in the end??? It had always been his own interest before anything else - even his own party.
What if BN can manipulate the system and Zambry becomes the MB and BN takes over control of the state? Do they care what the people wants then? The anger of Perakians are beyond any fiddlings to calm them down. They want a say in who they want as representatives. This anger will turn to hatred and BN will lose big time if they try to stuff their party's interest down the throats of Malaysians.
Perhaps that's the answer. Perhaps BN should listen to Mahathir. Then, perhaps, the people of Malaysia will only have to wait for a few more years before PR can do the right thing and look after the interest of those who are so blatantly ignored by BN.

I am glad I had the foresight to do what's right, what's fair, what's needed to guide them towards their world, which is the technology era. Internet gave them worldwide instructors of diversified knowledge of any fields, new discoveries are already at our doorstep. My kids have access to world politics, can compare capabilities and respect the wise and worthy, discuss games, strategy, studies, work, hobbies openly in school. The kids today need capable leaders to bring them to a higher platform in life.
I wondered what our present BN politicians are doing, debating and debating on the spot of the same issues over and over again among themselves with closed minds, going back to the past forefathers and history for advise without realising what's good for them is no longer applicable to us, present citizens any longer, what more the future. If you guys want to stay in power, at least please do it now, send strong messages to us, restore our faith in you, allow kids to look up to you in respect. We want good actions, fair deals, wise decisions without fear or favour, regardless of race and religion, not sweet words and money talk over the mass media.
Until we see that happening, we'll keep observing the oppositions until the next GE in hopes that they will be able to lead the country in your place. You have 3 more years.....

Are you for real???
What politicians says and what they actually do are two entirely different things!
If Anwar had been able to do a similar coup, then, I am 100% sure, he and his coalition parties will be mired in the same messy situation. They will be the ones who will be facing the wrath of the nation.
It's not an issue to say something - just ask the politicians.....Heck, I can say that I will win $1million dollars nby the end of this month! But to actually carry out what is said or bandid around and if the result of such execution of the activity is detrimental to the people, you can bet your bottom dollar the people will give those involved a piece of their mind - a roasting (just like what Najib is getting rioght now).
So, please don't go around showing your stupidity to the whole world! Sheesh!

Always remember , the higher you climb, the harder you will fall. The more you push the rakyat, the more they will remember you. Please don't try and set the record of being the first PM of Malaysian who cannot complete even one term in office. Looking at the pace of the development in Perak, you are already 3/4 of the way there.
Give the people of Perak to choose who they want to lead them.
The PM 's motto of 1Malaysia is don't reflect you well at all. Try the well established motto of Suzie Orman whom I have heard years ago : People first , then things then money, now you stay safe. I have only heard the 1Malaysia motto ever since he became the PM last month but everything he does is directly the opposite.
I have Malaysian friends from all over the world and every one of us is watching the Perak development very closely. Most of the Perak folks overseas are prepared to come back and vote when the State Assembly is dissolved.
Good luck to you and me.

so, he fairly knew that BN will lose big if a snap election is called for... in other words, he knows (of cos everybody knew) that BN is not approved by the perak rakyat and what they did the power grab is illegal!!. then why still awant to hold on to that illegitimate power?? This is akin to authoritarian/dictatorial rule......its no different from the Myammar military junta or Marcos' emergency rule era. This is even worse than communism/socialism. the ppl lose their human rights..
as a well-respected senior statesman, DrM should be way above the ongoing politicking and acted more respectfully. just keep his comments to himself and not hurting not the minority but the majority. afterall, what is happening today is partly due to his time as PM. so we now tell him just go enjoy your retirement , old age and go holiday (and repent if possible) in your Apanama...
