Tengku Muhammad Faris appointed Regent of Kelantan

KOTA BARU, May 25 - The Tengku Mahkota of Kelantan, Tengku Muhammad Faris Petra has been appointed the Regent of Kelantan, effective yesterday.

The declaration was made by State Secretary Datuk Aiseri Alias to enable Tengku Muhammad Faris to perform the duties of the Sultan of Kelantan as required under Article 22A of the State Constitution.

In a statement, Aiseri said that the constitution requires the appointment of a Regent or a Council of Regent in the event the sultan was indisposed.

The Sultan of Kelantan, Sultan Ismail Petra Ibni Almarhum Sultan Yahya Petra, is now warded at the Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore since Sunday after receiving treatment at the Universiti Sains Malaysia Hospital in Kubang Kerian since May 14. - Bernama
