KUALA LUMPUR, June 11 — In another blow to the PAS leadership's insistence on resuming talks with Umno, the party's spiritual leader said engaging the Malay nationalist party should never be part of party's agenda.
In an interview with the party newsletter Harakah, published today, Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat reiterated his stand against any form of political co-operation with Umno.
“Islam has always encouraged discussion. To place it as part of party's agenda creates the impression that Islam does not provide room for discussion,” said the PAS spiritual adviser.
During the recently-concluded muktamar, president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang and his deputy Nasharudin Mat Isa declared their commitment to strengthening Pakatan Rakyat (PR) but vowed to continue discussion with Umno, in a sign that both leaders have yet to abandon plans to form a unity government with the ruling party.
“Islam has always allowed those who are against it to talk and discuss. It has always been there, so there is no need to make it part of our agenda. When we make it part of our agenda, it creates redundancy,” Nik Aziz added.
He also praised Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad, who is another strong critic of unity talks with Umno, for demonstrating his knowledge in Islamic history during the muktamar.
Nik Aziz said Khalid, an engineer by training, had shown there is no clear division between the religious scholars or ulama and the professionals in the party.
“Although I have never seen him in skullcap, turban or robe, but throughout his speech he used arguments commonly used by the ulama,” he added.
In the fiery speech, Khalid also criticised the muktamar secretariat for accepting sponsorship from Umno-linked corporation Puncak Niaga.
The Kelantan Mentri Besar also expressed his shock with the defeat of the state leaders in the party election.
“I am not only disappointed, but also saddened. I don't know what was the reason. We will study the matter and let the next muktamar decide,” he added.

This is akin to a husband wants to have an illicit sex with the neighbor but declares he still loves his wife. I really wonder how this is going to work out.

Talking is always the best first approach in any conflict or disagreement.
No need to put that as party agenda.
And no need to do it is secrets.
When talking, always include all parties.
PKR or DAP should be invited to the table.
Lay open all the cards.
If Pas talks to Umno and it is done in private closet.
Then is not healthy - why hide from your coalition partners?
Unless you have intention to betray your partners, then the talking is not good.
When you talk to Umno, Umno can talk to the media what transpires.
Then the people will do a lot of guesswork...
As loose coalition in PR, there should be commitment to work together.
And that commitment is defined as confidence.
If your wife is always talking to a man, and worse still - it is always in secret in the bedroom.
If you question your wife, and if she says she is the freedom to talk to anyone anyhow...
I think you cannot accept it. If she wants to talk to a man, it should be open and it will be good if you as husband in also in the discussion.
Unless, your wife is thinking of divorcing you. Ahhh, that is a different story.
If Pas is talking to Umno in secret, that is okay if Pas is thinking of 'divorcing' from PR. And if this is the case, better announce that intention now. Don't stab your coalition partiner in the back. Betrayal is an offence.
BTW, Tok Guru with due respect - your popularity is waning in Pas.
You don't have the influence as Tok Guru like before.
That is why Pas delegates don't pay attention to your views.
That is why they voted your team out of leadership.
Nasharudin said this to a reporter when asked his view on what you said with regards to unity talks (you opposed it), Nasa said: Nik Aziz is not Pas.
As for the public, Pas without Nik Aziz is rejected.
This is the crisis of confidence.

true what he said of khalid samad. one don't have to wear skullcap, turban or robe to look/sound so holy and religious and pious. a man like khalid... as long as one is honest and god-fearing, who can dress in western suit (i think he did once) will be much better than all those in skullcap robed members.

If PAS is really serious about its ideals, then they should not compromise with UMNO. PAS must win the hearts of the Malays which it has failed to do for the past 50 years. If the Maly votes can shift to PAS, then it can be a really strong and dominant party instead of UMNO. PAS must ask the question and find answers why the Malays are shying them.
PAS should not try the short-cut way through the side door which eventually will be kicked out through the back door!

Tok Guru juga kena nasihat pimpinan PAS jangan banyak sangat dok ceramah politik hingga pening nak nilai kesan apa yang diceramahkan ..suruh semua ajk PAS dok diam2 dan buat persediaan teknikal untuk ambil alih kerajaan.. kaji semua polisi kerajaan sekarang, per elok@tambah nilai, atau gubal kalau perlu mengikut lunas2 islam..masa cuma tinggal 1-3 tahun lagi..bila dah banyak kerja nak buat baru lah tak sibuk nak ceramah politik je... Haven't they proved to be devious and cunning in previous coorperation? Are not their rampant corruption and arrogance despised by the rakyat and drove them to support Pakatan?
What could Datuk Sri Hadi been thinking if not being misled by his own narrow and shallow thinking?

PAS should call for a EGM immediately to kick these UMNOPuppet out from PAS indefinately and
"Vote of No Confidence for Hadi"
He is creating a lot of illusions for PAS Supporters and Followers.
He is Creating unneccessary confusion for Pakatan.
He is a lousy leader compare to Junior leaders such as Nizar , Salehuddin and many more.

I honestly believe that with more people like Mohd Nizar and Khalid Samad, PAS will have better chances of pulling Malay votes away from UMNO. And (if PAS is still in Pakatan) this is good news for Pakatan Rakyat, for all the Malays who have been suffering under UMNO, for the sidelined-for-many-years Chinese and Indians, for the silently suffering Bumis in Sabah & Sarawak...
Hidup Tok Guru!
