KUALA LUMPUR, June 11 – Political analyst Abdul Razak Baginda, who was at the centre of a high-profile trial for abetment in the murder of a Mongolian woman until his acquittal late last year, has been awarded a Doctorate of Philosophy in International Relations by Oxford University, one of the world’s top universities.
Dr Abdul Razak, 49, told Bernama here today that he submitted his doctorate dissertation in September 2006 but the university put it on hold because of his arrest two months later in connection with the murder of Altantuya Shaariibuu.
“When I was acquitted and released from prison on Oct 31 last year, I wrote back to the university, they revived the whole process and early this year they told me that I had passed and been awarded the Doctorate of Philosophy (DPhil). At Oxford, the Doctorate is called DPhil and is equivalent to PhD in other universities,” said Dr Abdul Razak.
He said in October, he would take up an appointment as a senior associate member of St Anthony’s College at the university.
In this capacity, he will undertake research on international issues.
Dr Abdul Razak, who studied at Oxford’s Trinity College in preparation for his doctorate, said he hoped more Malaysians would strive to study at top universities.
“There have been very few Malaysians who made it to Oxford, fewer still who obtained DPhil and even fewer among them are Malays,” he said.
He also said he was in the midst of writing a book of his life with the focus on his 22 months under remand in the Sungai Buloh Prison during the trial.
Two policemen, Chief Inspector Azilah Hadri, 33, and Corporal Sirul Azhar Umar, 37, who were charged for the murder were found guilty and sentenced to death. Both have appealed against the conviction and sentence. – Bernama

You should be proud of your achievement.
You said:
“There have been very few Malaysians who made it to Oxford, fewer still who obtained DPhil and even fewer among them are Malays,” he said.
That really make you special - so few Malaysians obtained DPhil, and fewer still among the Malays.
Terror lah you.
You have moved on.
Now you live and teach in England...
Aiyahhh...balik ke Malaysia,
So that when you teach at UiTM -
more Malays can get to Oxford and they will also achieve DPhil level like you.
The Malays in Malaysia really needs your intelligence.
Show them the ropes how to be smart like you...pandai lah Baginda ini.
If you stay in England, you are helping English people to be smart...
Of course other nationalities are also there...but like you say, very few Malays study there.
You should be grateful to our country, you get the scholarships -
You should be back here and repay our Malaysian kindness.
Ahhh, I see - you are writing your book on your experience in jail...on trail.
But that is boring...maybe some English buggers will read your book.
You should write about your ex-lover Altantuyah.
How you met her this Mongolian beauty...
How you made love and how her life is destroyed and blown to pieces...
Ahhhh, that kind of book many people especially Malaysians will read.
One question may I ask: How come you can have sex with Altantuyah - you did say she was her ex-lover - and the Islamic affairs department officials did not arrest you for promixity - berkhalwat - while other Muslims were arrested and charged under Sharia court????
But yours is more intimate, not just close proximity - you actually did it...whoa! That is berzina.
Does that make you a good Muslim???
Again, give credit where credit is due. Congratulations on your doctorate.
Now, please consider and come back and teach at UiTM or some local universities.
Malaysia need you.

With the Atlantuya murder still haunting the nation, he has the audacity to call up the National News Agency Bernama to bleat that he has obtained a doctorate. And he goes on to say that very few Malays have obtained a DPhil from Oxford.... even in faraway England, he cant help himself from being a rascist.
This statement has some very serious implications viz 1. that he is a very smart person amongst the Malays only ( but not a smart Malaysian ) 2. that Malays are generally inferior academically compared to their non-Malay brethren 3. that obtaining a Phd from other Universities are a waste of time. As one reader commented, " Pandai lah kamu, Baginda ".
Instead of keeping his gap shut and offer continuous prayers for his salvation, he chose to brag about his academic achioevements. Whats wrong with this guy? Has his detention in Sg Buloh Prison got anything to do with it?
And oh yes...he swore a Statutory Declaration ( SD) that he had an affair with the poor lady! Academically you are a Phd but what are u morally? Kindergarten ? And what kind of a Muslim are you?
Isnt the SD sufficient for the Syariah guys to haul him up for khalwat, berzina or whatever?
And why continue to impart your knowledge to an English audience? As one reader commented, the English people are already smart enough la. Come to Malaysia lah and teach in one of those Universities where there are a lot of Malays like UiTM, UUM etc.
But then again, come to think of it, our modern and progressive Malaysian Malays no longer think along racial lines like u and they might not welcome u either.
So u better stay in England la........ eat English food, wear white mans clothes, drink white mans wine, ride a German BMW or Porsche, speak English with a twang, screw white woman and the come back home and pretend to be a Malaysian Malay Nationalist and tell us how Malaysians should behave!!!
Tell me, isnt there a limit for hypocrisy in Bolehland?

And please where was he being racist - is his statement not right? "There have been very few Malaysians who made it to Oxford, fewer still who obtained DPhil and even fewer among them are Malays" - this isn't true? So why is he a racist? I think people who start accusing others of racist - are actually racist inside because the "Malay" word was used. What his statement does point though is that this NEP implementation of government is not working because there is still to few Malay intellects!
Eh - where he wants to work is his problem la - I thought Malaysia is facing brain drain - maybe this is one brain we don't care much about!!

Another thing that I'm curious about... what is the title of his dissertation? I'm really curious what is the subject of his PhD. How come this is not reported? Are the journalist so shallow that they only go for the "PhD" or "Dr" title?

Well he will face justice when he meets his maker. Maybe Altantunya might be the prosecutor.
