KUALA LUMPUR, June 22 — Pakatan Rakyat (PR) leaders today rejected Umno's unity government proposal, and proclaimed all issues surrounding the fiasco which brought the fledgling opposition coalition on the brink of collapse resolved.
Following a meeting held in Parliament today, PR leaders in a joint statement reiterated their loyalty pledge to strengthen the alliance, wanting to focus instead on their preparation for the next general election and a potential takeover of the federal government.
"The PR council of leaders reaffirms our rejection of the idea of forming a unity government with Umno/Barisan Nasional.
"It is a clearly malicious and desperate attempt to compromise the integrity of the increasingly popular PR," said PKR de facto Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at a press conference held after the meeting.
Anwar has played a pivotal role in patching up the cracks among the three parties over the unity talks proposed by PAS president Datuk Seri Hadi Awang and his deputy Nasharuddin Mat Isa.
He held various private meetings with Hadi, DAP’s Lim Kit Siang and PAS spiritual leader Datuk Nik Aziz Nik Mat in the past week, playing mediator by urging them to bypass the unity talks controversy and move on.
Party sources said the results of these meetings can be seen in the sudden reversal made by various PR leaders who, instead of attacking Hadi over his flirtations with Umno, said it was noble and democratic to make space for engagement with their rivals on matters of national interest.
Hadi was the first to make such drastic turnabout, saying the unity government idea was ill-conceived – even by Umno themselves – and that PAS was only willing to “engage” Umno/BN on specific issues and not on Malay and Islamic unity as reported in the past.
This was again reiterated by PR leaders in today’s meeting with Anwar, saying that PR is willing to engage Umno/BN on matters such as improving the quality of education, restoring the integrity of the judiciary and eradication of corruption.

The unity in PR is the mosttt important! If any leaders in PR want to revive unity talk again with UMNO after this, with due respect, please resign an join UMNO or any BN component.

The present coalition of PAS, DAP and PR,all of whom have multi-racial constitutions and racial mix to certain extent, presents a good forum and foundation to develop a strong new malaysian generations towards an integrated malaysian society. It is pure short sightedness to look at short-term benefits of an individual political party. This tantamounts to submitting to devilous temptations of UMNO.PAS beware!

Unlike BN, we have the big bully UMNO in the coalition...the component parties of MCA, MIC, Gerakan and the rest are merely political beggars!!!!

The state goverment that PR are controling now should be setting example of how the people can look forward to the new type of government that would put the people interest first. They should work together, bring progress and prosperity for the well being of the people, respect each other culture and and religious beliefs and go forward as one malaysian race to achieve excellance.

Don't stir the issue for racial, religion or educational issues which always use by UMNO. What we need to do for this country to bring better living quality, prosper the rakyat and strengthen the country competitiveness.
Watch out, Indonesia and Vietnam are catching up and no surprise if they over take Malaysian in Year 2020........

It is a good lesson but fortunately did not turn bitter.
But don't rest on the laurels, UMNO is probably churning out many other tricks. Nobody really believe that they are interested in 1Malaysia except saving their own rotten skin.

The rejection to the concept of unity government is a blow to Najib and Umno.
One thing for certain:
Najib and Umno know that the next general election can effectively change the political landscape.
Najib is losing confidence fast if Umno and BN can still win the hearts of the people.
In order for PR to win federal power,
the three party leaders must learn to talk and resolve any differences.
The people are more determined than ever to give PR the mandate.
Two party system - that is what the people desire.
Umno wants to woo Pas to their side,
Umno thinks that Pas is the weakest link in Pakatan...
Using the platform of religion and race - the commonality can melt the hearts of Malays.
Unity talks for the Malays, Unity talks for Islam - all this in the name of national interests.
How can anyone reject such idea???
Yet, that which is noble and good - can be used for one's political survival and milleage.
Umno is fighting to survive - more than that - to lead as dominant one.
As the dominant one,
for 52 years -
corruption and abuse of power are plenty.
Unity talks - ahhh, what is talk, Mahathir asked????
Unity for corruption and abuse of power -
That is one question Umno cannot answer.

BECOZ god created us UNIQUELY of OURSELF (take a look at ur thumb print and compare wif ur brothers sisters) means our brain, thinking, feeling and motives are different from each others.
PKR,PAS,DAP,PR is A FAMILY and all members just like a siblinghoods to each other, so quarrelling, have different point of opinion, mumbling with each other (as long as not fighting) i find it is OK. only through different opinion will bring the best SOLUTION for the matters......
if all the same thinking just like OPPOSITION (aft next GE13) of UMNO, BN, MIC,MCA they are all hypocrite!!!!
This (pas, pkr, dap,pr) will going to be a PERFECT COALITION in Malaysian history (provided they not bribe to the max)

IF PR harbours any ambition at all to take over the federal government, of which the SOONEST possible date will be GE13, THEN it makes sense that they focus their effort on all relevant fronts with ONE MIND, ONE HEART, ONE MISSION, ONE IDENTITY, ONE PLAN, ONE PURPOSE.
ONLY with the fullest unity, cooperation, dedication, mutual understanding and respect, and concentration of all parties that the mission will be conceivable and realistically within reach. Anything lesser will only diminish the possibilities and hopes, and that is the last thing on the alliance's list.
With the enduring and consistent support shown by the supporters and well-wishers that dream is made more realisable and possible.
It makes sense that the component parties of PR upgrade, update, train and ready a CRITICAL MASS of workers, candidates, serious captains, etc. etc. to capitalise on THAT MASSIVE and REAL groundswell of support.
They must NOT lose sight of the fact the nation is now READY for an alternative government. The responsibility of PR is real and demanding. It should be based on definitive action plans and concrete objectives. It is NO MORE the days when the opposition was only an irritant and nuisance.
The leaders must put aside petty issues which would only serve as stumbling blocks and sands in the mill. We need grist, NOT sands and stones!
PR must rise to the occasion and not fail the rakyat which have followed the opposition's through good and bad times.
Taking over the helm of the federal government is different from being just "playing" the opposition, it is a MASSIVE and SERIOUS matter demanding the HIGHEST and BEST that PR could offer and provide.
Hence, be prepared and do more, rather than bicker and lose sight of the real objective.
Be THE alternative that the rakyat wish you to be. Don't fail us!!!

No matter how, what the Pas President Datuk Seri Hadi Awang and the Deputy President Nasharuddin Mat Isa did has already tarnished the reputation of PAS in the eyes of non-muslim. They have damaged the hardwark of all the opened minded PAS leaders who have gained the confidence and trust of the non-muslims.
In the eyes of non-muslims now, both the Hadi Awang and Nasharuddin cannot be trusted. Since they have set the precedence, the question mark now is whether the non-muslim voters will support PAS in the next general election as before or not , if both of them are still in the NO.1 and 2 position in PAS.
Let's don't talk about the next general election. Will the non-muslims in Perak vote for PAS again if the state assembly is dissolved for new election ? Will the non-muslim voters in Perak trust the PAS leaders after knowing that they may become kataks anytime ?
If the PAS agrees the unity government with BN, BN will be the winner. If the PAS fails to join, BN is still the winner because they have already successfully created the non-confidence of non-muslims in PAS. PAS has fallen into the trap of BN. Non-muslim voters will not trust PAS as long as Hadi Awang and Nasharuddin are still in top positions. PAS needs the spiritual leader Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz , Mohd Nizar and other opened minded leaders.
In conclusion, it is the Hadi Awang and Nasharuddin who destroyed the hardwork built by all the PAS leaders over the years. BN parties are laughing very loudly at the back.

It looks very much like the Pakatan Rakyat, has created their first Council of Leaders and this is the first concrete step that lays the foundation for the construction of a truely united Pakatan Rakyat, and eventually and hopefully the meager of all 3 parties of DAP, PKR and PAS into one party of Pakatan Rakyat. I believe this is going to be the begining of the END of UMNO and race based politics. It took us, Malaysians 51 years to shake off the nonsense of Ketuaan Melayu. The politics of race was egregious
and retarded the progress for all these 51 years and robbed Malaysia of 51 years of meaningful progress and development.
What permanent legacy has the narrow minded NEP left behind except for the perpetuation of the reign of UMNO ? The Malay leader most to blame is Tun Mahatir, whose policy of denying the minority races the right to fully participate in the development of Malaysia has stagnated Malaysia. I can't speak for the Indians, but for the Chinese, we had never depended on the government for any handouts in anything.
The one big loss for Malaysia is the active HOLDING DOWN of the Chinese on the false excuse that by holding down the Chinese, the Malays with government assisstance will catch up to the Chinese. This ploy was both disingenious and self defeating
because the Chinese had at no time depended on the government. We were denied license to do business, all on our own. How will the success of the Chinese in business crimp the development of the Malays ? It is not even appreciated by the Malays that 90% of Chinese are SMALL BUSINESS, FAMILY OWNED AND FAMILY OPERATED AND in this sense involved only the family that operates the business; how will the success of such small business retard the progress of the Malays ? To say the least in the
manner that I have set out above the number and size of Chinese business failed to increase naturally because there was an active policy by the UMNO government to supress the growth and increase of Chinese business and consequenly the small pie that Malaysia inherited from the British Colonial Government was actively prevented by the government from growing. This is now unneccesary repression is still going on in Malaysia.

Although PR leaders have papered over the cracks, the damage has been done. Most ordinary people do not think like politicians who can jig and re-jig things a million times. It is clear that Hadi's and Nasarudin't handiwork has caused PAS to lose a lot of ground with both non-Malay and anti-UMNO Malay voters.
More than before, there is deep distrust of the PAS No.1 and No.2, especially Nasarudin who held secret talks with UMNO immediately following 308 and thereafter persisted with his objective. I am convinced that Nasarudin is an UMNO mole and Hadi is racist.
I, for one, will not vote for any pro-unity PAS candidate or BN candidate come the next GE and many of my friends have similar sentiments, otherwise the cancer remains to erupt again after the next GE, with even worse consequences. The cleansing of UMNO elements in PAS is necessary to build a PR that is non-racist.

You have you points, but the fact is, Nik Aziz still command respect from majority of PAS members. Hadi and Nasha cannot do much here. If the two still not behave, PAS members will throw them out.
Notwithstanding of this, compare Umno and PAS, both consist of Malays, Malaysian will still vote PAS instead of Umno in future elections simply because Umno is corrupted to hell. No other political party is as bad as Umno. For this reason alone, Malaysian will still vote any party other than Umno.
DON'T LET UMNO HOODWINK YOU, FELLOW RAKYAT.

Kopitiam says that Hadi and Nasha had tarnished the reputation of Pas in the eyes of non-Muslims. He added that both of them cannot be trusted by non-Muslims. Why non-Muslims? It should be all right-thinking Malaysians. I am a staunch Muslim and I am disgusted by these jokers, especially Nasha.
I am a sympathiser of Pas and I want them to live up to the values of Islam, like TG Nik Aziz. If not, take away the Islam from its name. Islam is clean so, Kopitiam, we Muslims also feel the same way towards these jokers. Without Nik Aziz, Pas would have crumpled. According to an umno think tank senior, the only way to bring down Anwar and PR is through Pas and Nasha and gang, Hasan Ali and gang and some others have been used.
Don't also trust Zulkifli Nordin, the PKR MP for Kulim. He is selfish, however you want to interpret it.
We want a clean and credible government, that is the utmost priority. The ulamaks in Pas are substandard, so I hope they stride over the knee-height waters instead of drowning themselves and us together.

Thank you very much for your feedback of my comments posted earlier. Yes, hadi and Nasha had tarnished the reputation of PAS in the eyes of all Malaysians instead of non-Muslims only.

I agree with you. The policies of UMNO have been self-defeating all these years. If anything, it has in fact put the Malays many years behind and has benefited only those cronies of theirs. When one look at those cronies, one could see crutches under their armpits. Albeit, invisible to many. The Chinese who work hard in spite of the disadvantage earn my respect.
The Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) encouraged racial integration and in fact, encouraged the Muslims to work hand with hand with non-Muslims so long as everyone is sincere towards each other. Islam respect other religions and races and is non discriminatory.
What UMNO and the likes of Nashuruddin are trying to do is create a “race” dominion that unfortunately is not working.
Tok Guru is a respectable Muslim who honours his words. And he didn’t mince his words when push comes to shove.
Our concern is Nashuruddin who is force to eat humble pie today but will bid his time. Anyone with that ill-conceived idea of going to bed with UMNO is a danger.
One day, when he thinks he is ready, he will rear his ugly head again with his racial undertones lurking right below the surface. I would watch out for him Tok Guru.
With Anwar Ibrahim at the helm, PKR should be well positioned to capture govt in the next GE.
Just don’t throw away that opportunity to do the right thing when it comes. You only have ONE Chance. There will be no seconds if you blow it. I wish you guys all the best in your endeavors.
