Clinic assistant charged with impersonating a doctor

SHAH ALAM, June 23 – A former clinic assistant who allegedly pretended to be a locum doctor earning about RM5,000 per month at six clinics over the past two years was charged at the Magistrate's Court here today with two counts of cheating.

Khiron Mansor, 47, from Penang, pleaded not guilty on both counts.

According to the charge sheet, she made chief nurse Siti Zubaidah Baharun, 40, believe that she was a registered doctor and following this, she received two payment vouchers dated Sept 2 and Oct 31, 2007 totalling RM390 from Zubaidah for her service at Klinik Bandaran, No. 7, Jalan Utas C/15C, here between Sept 2 and Oct 31, 2007.

According to the second count, she deceived clinic assistant Noor`ashikin Mat Ali @ Taharin, 38, by furnishing an Annual Practice Certificate belonging to another to make Noor`ashikin believe that she was a registered doctor and thereby received two petty cash vouchers dated March 9 and March 26, 2008 totalling RM470 for her service at Klinik Anis, No. 17, Jalan Bunga Melur 2/18 Seksyen 2, here on March 9 and March 26, 2008.

Khiron who was arrested on June 3, was charged under Section 420 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of between a year and 10 years and whipping and a fine.

Magistrate Afifah Mamat @ Yusof allowed her RM4,500 bail with one surety and fixed July 8 for re-mention.

Khiron was represented by lawyer Bustaman Mansor. Present was Deputy Public Prosecutor Dalira Din.

Selangor Commercial Crime Investigation head ACP Chong Mun Phing told a press conference that Khiron was arrested at a clinic in Bukit Sentosa, Hulu Selangor, three days after she joined the clinic as a locum doctor using an Annual Practice Certificate allegedly stolen from a clinic in Kelantan.

“A doctor at the clinic asked Khiron to produce the copy of her Annual Practice Certificate and after Khiron gave the copy, the doctor checked the details in the certificate with the Malaysian Medical Council on-line and the doctor found the name on the certificate was of a doctor who owns a clinic in Shah Alam.

“However, the copy produced by the suspect showed a clinic address in Kelantan. The suspect is believed to be pasted another name on the original certificate and make a copy of it. Khiron is also believed to have used the name of the Shah Alam doctor when she worked there as a locum doctor,” she said.

ACP Chong said investigations revealed that Khiron had worked as a locum doctor at six clinics in Shah Alam since 2007 and received about RM35 per hour using the allegedly stolen Annual Practice Certificate.

“During each interview, she would produce a copy with an altered name. The suspect is believed to have stolen the original certificate when she worked as a clinic assistant in Kelantan,” she said.

She also sought cooperatioon from the public to help trace Khiron’s sister, Rossnah Mansor, 51, whose last address was in Taman Sri Muda here to assist investigation.

“Rossnah is also believed to be impersonating a doctor but she has not been caught. If there is information about her, please contact us,” she said. – Bernama
