KUALA LUMPUR, June 29 - The Hindu Rights Action Force’s (Hindraf) is organising a nationwide protest in a final bid to force the DAP-led Penang government to save what they claim is the last Indian cultural heritage village on the island.
On Wednesday, the outlawed organisation, which was credited with delivering the bulk of Indian votes to Pakatan Rakyat (PR) in last year’s general elections, will mobilise its members to gather outside Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng’s office at Komtar.
They plan to burn an effigy of the DAP secretary-general.
Others will also protest the forced eviction and demolition of Kampung Buah Pala at DAP headquarters in Ipoh, Petaling Jaya and Seremban.
National coordinator S. Jayathas told The Malaysian Insider that the drastic action was warranted as the demolition would take place on Thursday and Hindraf needed to show its seriousness in the matter.
“If PR state governments can give land to Chinese and Malays, then why not Indians? If they cannot even solve this, then what is the different between Umno and DAP?” he said.
Hindraf supporters have in recent months expressed dissatisfaction at PR due to what is perceived as broken promises.
The bulk of Indian voters had supported the fledgling alliance in hopes that it would rectify the disenfranchisement felt by the Indian community.
A number of Hindraf members led by former Hindraf leader RS Thanenthiran have also formed the Malaysian Makkal Sakthi Party, a breakaway party that appears friendly towards Barisan Nasional.
Kampung Buah Pala, sits on a 2.6ha piece of prime land in the rapidly developing eastern Georgetown.
The current 300 villagers and their ancestors, mostly of Tamil origins, have been living in the village for nearly 200 years.
A few weeks ago, Hindraf founder P. Uthayakumar had called on Lim to use his powers as chief minister to save Kampung Buah Pala from developers as provided in Section 76 of the National Land Code.
He said that Lim could do so “with a stroke of the pen” and provide a different plot of land to the developers should it be unable to pay compensation.
The residents association have also offered to buy the land from the state government.

We know that religion is important but the social needs and economic well-being are equally important. The temple is not the main issues - I believe if positive dialog that place, PR states will grant and even contribute financial resources. It's happening in Selangor.
No one is fighting to the abuse of alcohol in India family - which largely influence almost a lost of an entire generation.

Why pick on Lim Guan Eng?
Looks like Hindraf is out of direction lately.

The state can muscle it back in a reckless manner and above the law for the sake of the indians. But two wrong does not make it right.
Instead, Hindraf should protest at the umno's cronies company who wanna to built luxury condo. and at Koh office. the culprits did most of the damages. ask the company to give up the land!!
Better, still, hindraf should come out with RM100millions to buy the land and give it to the poor indian.
Look at the options, the state's hands are tied. over to u, hindraf.

See, the punch of fellows are no different from those in BeNd...fighting for own interest.

Hi Hindraft Friends,
I indeed quite sympathy with suffering our Indians were being marginalize at the ealier state but with the lastest development of action by certain Hindraft leaders , my support towards this group start to vanish. They seem prefer violence instead of pursuading matters in a constructive manners in a conducive enviroment.
Friends , no one would like to sit down to discuss matters with you if you are so easily agitated and get angry out of nothing. Do you know goverment has every rights to acquire land no matter how many "donkeys" years you have resided there ?
Fight your Rights in a proper prospective don't create troubles, peoples will support your course.
Do you know how may Chinese land or kampung baru being "Bulldozer" all this while ?
Our family land also being taken by goverment with compensation off course.
Friends, not only indians are affected others Malaysian face similar problems, don't play with racial sentiments, you are heading for more troubles, lesser and lesser support as times goes by.
Just imagine , if everyone refuse to surrender land belong to goverment then others party will blame the goverment for doing nothing.
If everyone also act and behave violently , how are nation going to progress ?
Thinks before we act.... Thinks Twice before we Act Violently.....

The DAP party premises attracts police cordon and arrests when people gather around it.
Now, you leaders at Hindraf don't want your faithful supporters be inconveniently routed to balais for questioning ...right?

After the main Hindraf leaders were released from Kamunting, they said that they were going to change their policy and become non violent and less aggressive and here they are going back to their old selves again. If they're behaving like UMNO, reneging on their promises, how do they expect non Indians to support them. I'd say that Hindraf dared to behave so recklessly and "brave" with Lim Guan Eng and his party is the fact that LGE doesn't have the power of ISA to arrest their leaders and the Federal govt. is not going to use the ISA to help LGE. Did the police go after them?

When HINDRAF protested against the 'ethnic cleasing' Federal Government in the past, I'm pretty sure that these exact same commenters were the ones who supported them. Similarly, it was the plight of Hindraf that shifted the votes of the Indian community towards the alternatives of BN.
And now, when they're protesting an Indian heritage village in Penang against a state government that has so willingly let it go, we see these same commenters telling them not to act?
My goodness, people, grow a spine!
You all supported Hindraf when they were protesting in KL, and even then they were a racist sentiment preaching solely for the Hindu community. So shame on you to turn faces when they go against your beloved PR politicians who do wrong.
And for someone to say that Hindraf should join BN because DAP doesn't need their vote....be very careful of what you're suggesting, considering most of Selangor DAP voters, particularly in Klang are Indian.

Pakatan, stand firm on principles.

The residents association is so silly. First, the land is not owned by the Penang state govt anymore. Second, what if the UMNO-linked developer who now owns the land doesn't want to sell you the land?
written by CastleInThe Air, June 30, 2009
These Hindraf members are starting to behave like so many Indian gangsters in Selangor.. I say the police should take actions against them when they demonstrate; LGE is being too kind to ask the police not to do so..
