KUALA LUMPUR, June 29 – The government will allocate RM10 million to Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) to provide facilities for handicapped passengers, Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Abdul Rahim Bakri said today.
“This demonstrates the strong commitment of the federal government to the less fortunate and handicapped people in the country so that they can move around using public transport and carry out their daily activities without hindrances,” he said when met at Parliament House, here.
The RM10 million allocation would be spent on five KTM Komuter stations in the Klang Valley namely the Rawang, Sungai Buloh, Serdang, Shah Alam and Bandar Tasik Selatan stations.
The money would be utilised to install two units of lifts, construction of special toilets for the handicapped, special car parks, installing ramps, provision of special lanes at each of the stations, as well as special platforms and other related facilities for the handicapped. – Bernama
