KUALA LUMPUR, June 30 – The Sessions Court here today issued warrants of arrest against two Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) supporters due to their failure to attend hearing of their case for allegedly taking part in an unlawful assembly in November 2007.
Judge Mohamad Sekeri Mamat made the order for the arrest of N. Rames, 39, and M. Hari Chandran, 29, following an application by deputy public prosecutor Azlina Rasdi.
Three others, M. Selvanathan, 47, Sangar Nair, 27, and L.Subramaniam, 29, who were also not in court today, were on sick leave.
However, only the sick leave certificate of Selvanathan was produced in court today by his lawyer, N.Surendran.
The court then ordered Sangar and Subramaniam to produce their sick leave certificates to the court on July 17 for mention of the case.
At the same proceeding, Azlina also informed the court that four warrants of arrest which were issued on Dec 11, 2008 against K. Thirushul Vanan, 23, B. Kalai Vanar, 45, L. Subramaniam, 29, and S. Letchmanan, 24, had yet to be served.
All of them are charged under Section 143 of the Penal Code for participating in an illegal assembly at an area near the MIDF Building in Jalan Tun Razak and Jalan Ampang intersection between 8am and 9am on Nov 25, 2007.
Alternatively, they are charged under Section 27 (5)(a) of the Police Act 1967 for attending the illegal assembly. They are also charged with using violence and defying a police order to disperse from the assembly. – Bernama
