KUALA KLAWANG, June 30 – The Information Communication and Culture Ministry will set up an incentive scheme in association with the Education Ministry to help develop cultural and communication activities among students and teachers.
Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim said the first phase of the scheme would focus on teachers with talent and potential in music.
“We will assist them in providing musical instruments and systematic guidance in music and vocal. Our emphasis will be on traditional musical instruments compared with modern instruments because the younger generation of today are more inclined to western music.
“Very rarely we find them (youths) interested in traditional music. That is why we want to emphasise on traditional musical instruments. It doesn’t matter whether those involved are Malays, Chinese or Indians,” he told reporters after a Jempol and Jelebu District Level Teachers’ Day gathering here today.
Rais who is also Jelebu Member of Parliament, said his ministry will only channel the incentives through the Education Ministry.
The second phase will be for the ministry to help schools develop talent in cultural performances.
Apart from cultural activities, the ministry will also assist schools in the interiors to enhance their communication through providing computers and internet facilities.
“This is in line with the governments policy to enhance broadband services and add local contents in computers. We will also use the services offered by the Communications and Multi-media Commission of Malaysia to carry out programmes under their guidance,” he said. – Bernama
