KUALA LUMPUR, July 2 — The relationship between DAP and the Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) deteriorated further when its chairman called Lim Guan Eng a “blatant liar”.
P. Waythamoorthy claims the Penang chief minister had attempted to hoodwink the public in a recent statement by implying that Hindraf claimed it could acquire the land where the village sits on from the developers below market value.
Instead, Lim had said that it would take more than tens of millions to save the village, said to be the last Indian heritage site on the island, by those fighting against its demolition.
But Waythamoorthy pointed out that it was Lim's own political secretary who had come up with the sum of RM30 million and that the DAP secretary-general was attempting to divert from the real issue by talking up the sum of money involved.
This comes after villagers, backed by Hindraf supporters, called for Lim to resign as chief minister. Hindraf had also planned to burn an effigy of Lim in front of his office for failing to solve the issue by exercising his powers as chief minister "with the stroke of a pen".
The village was due to be demolished this week but the developers Nusmetro Venture have been forced to give the villagers a month's respite.
In a press statement, Waythamoorthy also slammed Lim for claiming that the villagers had been offered compensation of RM200,000 and that many had accepted the offer and moved.
Waythamoorthy said that the sum was only RM90,000 and only seven families out of over 40 had accepted.
"As far as I am concerned he is a heartless man for lying and colluding with the developers in uprooting these people with a peanut offer of RM90,000," Waythamoorthy said.
However, the developers have instead claimed that 10 out of 31 households had accepted offers of between RM140,000 and RM260,000 each.
Waythamoorthy repeated Hindraf's point of view that the state government was not without measures to avoid paying a large compensation to the developers but that the chief minister was empowered under the Land Acquisition Act to acquire the land at a reasonable rate subject to a court review.
He also scoffed at Lim's attempt to shift the blame to the previous Barisan Nasional administration, insisting that Lim should "remember that the actual transfer of the said land had occurred during his tenure as chief minister. If the previous government had made a fraudulent deal then he is part of the fraudulent transaction for having sanctioned the transfer."
The Socialist Party of Malaysia (PSM), which contested under PKR tickets in the last general election, also slammed Lim for attempting to "just wash its hands off yet and blame the previous government all the way."
"It puts to test or rather gives Chief Minister Lim a chance to prove that his government is pro-people against being pro-capitalist," said secretary-general S. Arutchelvam in a press statement.

Keep moving, clear all the mess. That why you're chosen as CM. I support Hindraf in this issue. You merely behave as vote buyer during last GE!!!

There is still law in this country, I hope. They should thank their lucky star that UMNO-BN is not the govt or the will faced kangaroo judges in kangaroo courts!

To Hindraf, your action in blaming the wrong party is stupid and unreasonable. As far as I am concerned, Hindraf has now turned into extortioners.
No need to resort to these type of tactics if you are reasonable people. Disgusting!

Accusations everywhere but i don't even know who is telling the truth.
If Waythamoorthy says is true, then he gotta show some evidence of his comments since he is accusing Lim. If its shown to be true, penang nites will stand behind him.
If not, then please shut the (censored) up.

The question is at what cost to the people of Penang? Does Hindraf know that the land in Penang cost exhorbitantly high and even at reasonable rate, the cost is still very high to the people of Penang. And Hindraf wants the people of Penang to pay and Hindraf will come out like the people's hero. I say no thank you Hindraf, you are not welcome in Penang.

Radical organization Hindarf is projecting the issue as Indian problem by saying this village is last Indian heritage heaven in Malaysia. How about those Malay squatters in Johor were evicted also another Malay problem?
To buy back the land with public money is never an option, the money can be used for other better services for the poor.
Since villagers has lost the case in the court, the best option is fighting a better goodwill payment from the developer. If the developer can offer RM200,000 for each family as claim by LGE, the villagers shall just accept the money and buy a flat or terrace house in the mainland.
LGE shall lobby developer to compensate villagers at such amount or even higher amount. LGE don't behaving like a mouse again by hiding in your office. Take up the issue yourself and lobby a better compensation deal for the villagers.

I sympathize with the Penang government, but it is amazing how clear the reasoning is from Waythamoorthy, and how he can debate long distance effectively. The implication is that HINDRAF is well reasoned and organized. DAP supporters should not fight HINDRAF emotionally.
This shows how, even unpleasant debates can bring out more truth and opportunity to educate the public. Hurray to the online media too.

Maybe Waythamoorthy dreams of becoming the next Samy Vellu, elevating himself on the miseries of the Indians. See how shamelessly he promotes himself to BN now?

what do u expect LGE to do now? compensate the developers with our public money as this seems to be the only option available. Better use the money to upgrade our roads, schools and bridges etc. What happened to the high chapparal is considered a goner. Just go sue koh tsu koon and his gang.

Once BN out , PR has enough money to help those really poor .
At this moment , for the PR's states where have money to spend ... The CM also want to help , noone say the gate is closed . As long as they take over Federal , the real poor and needy people will be benefit . If they (PR ) never help those poor when they have fund , we kick them out , just like now we want to kick BN out .
If today we are forcing someone yet to have enough fund and spend so much money , how to continue to survive .
If we are too emotional , how to achive the goals ???
Do not jump to the conclusion "the promise" is closed . For this case , without the FUND how to fulfil the promises if these are really the promises .
Why everyday have to deal with the issue ," you are Malay ...you are Chinese ... you are Indian etc ...
If we love our country and we really care about poor people , we must use heart and brain to work together and just forget about what the races or what the religion ...

Pakatan Rakyat.
And now Hindraf want to bite the hand that fed them.
Just for (several) million ringgit offered to them by UMNO-BN and the promise of a ministry after GE13.
People, please don't listen to the nonsense from Hindraf! LGE has done so much for the people of Penang within this short span of time, but he has so many issues and legal entanglements courtesy of Koh and his corrupted Gerakan state government. Give Lim a break! Better still, give him more support and encouragement!
