PETALING JAYA, July 2 - An off-duty constable rendering assistance to a couple who were being robbed by three men ended up getting slashed in the incident.
Two civilian friends of Omar Osman, 20, who joined the policeman to fight off the robbers were also injured, said Selangor deputy police chief Datuk A. Thaiveegan today.
In the 11.30pm incident yesterday, Omar, who works as a driver at the Klang police headquarters, was having dinner with the friends at a restaurant at Mentari Business Park here when they heard shouts for help.
They immediately rushed out of the restaurant to help the victims but were confronted by the robbers.
"Suddenly, one of the robbers took out his parang and started slashing at all of them. Omar sustained a slash wound in his right shoulder while his friend and the couple also sustained injuries," Thaiveegan told reporters after visiting Omar at a private hospital here.
He said the robbers then fled empty-handed in a silver BMW 5 Series car which had false number plates.
Witnesses are urged to contact Rakan Cop or the nearest police station. Omar's condition is reported to be stable while the others received outpatient treatment at a nearby private clinic. - Bernama

This is what happens when law and order has gone home and anarchy has arrived.
Commendable action by the young man. We can only hope that slowly more and more will take their work more seriously.
But I think it will be too late. Evidence: The car itself is a BMW! Can u beat that??? Even the robbers have betters cars than mere working ppl like me.
