KOTA KINABALU, July 3 – Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Abdul Rahim Bakri is not at all pleased with the delay in the upgrading of the Kota Kinabalu International Airport, which should have been completed in May.
Following the delay, he has asked KLIA Consultancy Services, the project consultants, to be on top of the matter.
“The delay causes various problems to arise like increased cost and complaints from the public,” he said in a statement here today.
He said he was made to understand that one of the causes was the acquisition of 4.2 acres of land belonging to the Royal Sabah Turf Club, located at the end of the airport’s runway, and hoped the state government would help expedite the process.
He added that in view of the various matters arising, the contractors for the runway extension and terminal building upgrade had also asked for time extensions to complete their jobs. – Bernama
